From August, 2009. Some nights I really nailed the Sean Connery impression. This was not one of those nights.

I'm not sure you could even call this a "review" as it's more just me trying to remember what the hell happened during the show. Sometimes the filter of casual observation can be a good thing.
SantaCon 2015 Columbia, MO

Instead of a crazy edit as I've done in the past, I thought it would be more fun to present SantaCon in CoMO in a simpler format. So here I present a "cinema verite" version of the insanity. Also it's WAAAAAY easier to show it this way.

Nude In Name Only - Episode Two: Artie Lange
Hey Ben what were you doing on Little Saint James in 2003? The logs say you were there in January, which feels like an odd time of year to vacation
You are so punny tho
Many people in SCA have a military/martial arts background. You don't just wander onto the battlefield; you must be certified. I dove into that thirty years ago; and didn't regret a MOMENT! Now retiring; I'm heading BACK!
Was the Documentary ever made? Being a member of the S.C.A., I would love to see it.
?
Dude, what? Hahah
Did this ever get finished?
Ya it’s a fantasy. A giant renaissance fair.
Can you update us on this project?
Nice video man, looks great!

Get the words right and try again. Not bad.

If you can get scenes that really look like it was taken in Medieval Times. Like Mist raising off a Pond or Lake early in the Morning or a Woman dressed in a Dress near a Pond or Lake or some other setting that makes her look like a Dream or Fairy, because I've seen situations like that before. And I've even got someone You should try to get to be in your Documentary. I'll post her name later. She's a Fighter, but also looks like a Model.
When you do this Documentary please show the Fabulous "Camp Gates" / "Entrances". I saw some pictures of the Camp Gates at Pennsic and they looked like something you would see in or on a Hollywood Movie Set. Also show how they set all the Buildings up at Pennsic. Show what goes on Day and Night. Also try to show times at Pennsic during the day and night when it doesn't look like you are in the 20 Century. = Someone once told a story at an SCA Event where an SCA Member brought a friend of his with him that was just out of the Navy. The guy from the Navy thought it was kind of a Joke what his friend was into, until he woke up the next day. It was early in the morning and they were camped out near a pond or lake and when he looked out the window of their tent he looked out over the Pond or Lake and saw "Mist" rising up off the Water and in the Distance he could hear the Herald calling out the Events that was going to happen during the day. Then after he got dressed in his Medieval Garb and saw everything. He said he finally got it.
Did you ever get this completed?
the gang from role models looked like they were having fun. I wouldnt mind if that was how it was, no need to label them bitter nerds.
I still think it would be a better TV Series... Heck look at some of the trash Reality Shows that have been around for years.
The Society for Curating Arachnids
i miss Pennsic so much
"England, where castles come from" ok I'm done bye.
Hails brothers and sisters
Perfect!!
Ah! The SCA. My home, my family....my everything. These guys have become the salvation that I need from the mundane world.
this is nice
this is great but I do wish they would list the price to join somewhere. sigh...
The "price to join"? Well... There is a membership you can get from the SCA, Inc (see sca (dot) org for details), but it isn't required to participate. Generally, the way you get involved is to find a group of the SCA local to you (and we have groups in every state of the US, most Canadian provinces, all over Australia and New Zealand, in many places in Europe, and in a variety of other locations around the globe), get in contact with them, and start attending local meetings, practices, or events. With in-person events almost entirely on hiatus due to pandemic, there's been a lot more going on virtually, which means it's easier to connect with people even if you're geographically not close to an SCA group. Try starting with sca (dot) org (slash) new-to-the-sca for both more information about the organization as well as a way to find groups close to you.
Did the documentary ever get made? Noticed this was 2011!!! if so PLEASE SHARE WITH ME!!!!
How have I missed this over the years? When did James Franco start doing documentaries on the SCA? Great video as an intro.
So did you ever make it
Lolllll

This was a joke right?
Pemsic is like a few hour drive from me. I love how close it is
stupid! what an idiotic thing to waste your time on.
Is it any worse to waste one's time on doing documentaries for U.S. Civil War Re-enactors, the Renaissance Faire crowd, those who participate in professional Poker tournaments, fans of the assorted professional sports, et cetera?
How did you get on with your documentary?
I love JacksFilms
"May the force be ever in your favor" - Harry Potter
"This too shall pass"- Gandalf
So whatever happened? Was this documentary ever made?
Bob, as to the first part of your post, Thats a buncha bat shat. This I know for a fact. The 2nd part, I couldnt say
It may look stupid, but I'll bet it will sell a lot of toys.
First comment in 4 years........ I love this video!
If this film were to have a snowball's chance in Hell of getting made, you'd have to become a full-blooded SCAdian, because it would be Society members funding it. The film-maker has a decidedly outsider's perspective. For example, people fight because they love to fight, not because five years down the road they might get some recognition. I get it and I'm not a fighter. This film-maker doesn't seem to get it. BTW, at least one full-length SCA film has been made (I'd have to search for the link), not that it couldn't or shouldn't be done again, I'm just not sure this is the guy to do it.
Watch George Romero's "Knightriders"; he attended an SCA event in Philadelphia, fell in love with the idea of the SCA, and decided to make a movie. He had to throw in motorcycles in order to sell it, though
HAVE to say one thing about your people saying that the knight is the goal of the middle ages martial arts. They forget about the MASTER of ARMS! I'm a squire in the service of a master. The biggest difference is the vow to the crown, A master makes his vow to the populace, In regalia, he wears the white baldric and no chain around his neck. The knight wears a white belt and wears a chain around his neck. Why don't they ever mention this!?
Ugh.
The runes on the dress at 3:01 read "OTCATLA SAYS MEOW"
if you've ever tried to get a household name registered, they make it extremely difficult and youhave to use word combinations that would be used in a specific place and period. the reason i dont like the sca so much is the majority of people ARE cat nerd types or princess bride obsessed nerds which damper the authenticity for me. also theres lots of red and black heraldic devices and tons of purple. id say a good 20 percent of people are concerned with authenticity. but in reality, its just a fantasy larp group that has no relevance to the medieval period.
@@caligulalonghbottom2629 you begin by complaining how difficult it is to register a household name because it has to be appropriate and researched, then you go on and say almost everyone is just playing games. Good for them! The SCA is about fun and fellowship and learning too. The A in SCA doesn't stand for authenticity. I'd say if 20% are actively persuing authentic garb etc that's a very good percentage. The key to success in the SCA is this. It's a volunteer organization, if you see something you think you could improve or make a difference - volunteer. Baroness Brianna, OL In the SCA since AS 8
These description of the battles gives me a boner, i need to try this.
