PittRace 2024 Superkart Complete Rain Race
Full race video from onboard my superkart at PittRace on Sunday, September 29, 2024. There was a steady light rain compliments of hurricane Helene making for a wet track. I wasn't fast as I simply don't have enough laps here to have a good rhythm. But my goal was simply to finish both races and all four practice sessions which I did. All part of getting back into the saddle. Host club was Dart Kart Club and sanctioning body was American Kart Road-Racing Association.

PittRace 2024 Superkart race drive byes in the rain

These are videos my wife took of me in my race at PittRace on Sunday, September 29, 2024. I wanted to see the rooster tails of water coming off of my kart. I wasn't fast and didn't expect to be as I don't have enough laps at this track to really know it well. Host club was Dart Kart Club and sanctioning body was American Kart Road-Racing Association.

This is one lap from my race on September 29, 2024 at PittRace. Light rain all day due to hurricane Helene leftovers. I wasn't fast as I'm still trying to put together my track rhythm, and really just wanted to finish. The host club was Dart Kart Club and sanctioning body was American Kart Road-Racing Association.
State of the Shop, April 2024
Переглядів 1778 місяців тому
Here's a rambling walk around inside the shop where I talk about what's where and sometimes why. Much of the shop is falling into place and starting to take shape. It's an evolution as sometimes you have to drag something in place to actually see and feel it, in order to figure out if it works there or not.
Rollup door installation

It's been a realization that I should have planned on a door for the lean-to side of my building. So that is finally being handled now. Also added outside lights on each side of the door which required additional conduit and wiring, along with mounting provisions. A lot of work, but totally worth it. Some pics of the door open and closed, videos of it operating and a time lapse of its installat...
Eclipse 2024 drone view

I put the drone up in the air to see how things looked during the eclipse on April 8, 2024 in northeastern Ohio. It got dark. Who knew? Even this camera was adjusting for the dim light and didn't show it as dark as it was.
Eclipse 2024 Time Lapse

Attempted a time lapse video of the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024 from northeastern Ohio. Got lucky with the weather, but forgot about the infrared night vision in the trail camera. Sadly doesn't show how dark it really got.
State of the Shop, Jan. 2024

This is a crummy walk around video of the shop as it stands beginning of January, 2024. Unfortunately it's taking longer, and costing more than I planned on. But I am making progress and getting closer to moving in.
Fall colors from above

Fourth flight of my new to me drone trying to capture the fall colors in and around my yard. No editing, just straight to upload. Like those sad movies that went straight to video rentals instead of the theatre.

This is a collection of video clips from the second concrete pour showing some of the steps involved. It would have been the entire floor, but the concrete supply was limited. This is for a new shop that I will have built by Morton Buildings. Zook Masonry of Townville, PA is pouring the concrete. Day 107 of build, video 3 of 3

This is a time lapse video showing the beginning of the work to perform the final grading. Since we are still waiting on concrete and for the dumpster to leave. This is only the beginning of final grading. But after tomorrow, there will be sections we can put grass seed on. This is for a new shop that I will have built by Morton Buildings. what is the CHT guage for ?
Cylinder Head Temperature. I compare CHT and EGT to determine if I need to rock the timing one way or the other.
@@chucksterock thanx , that now makes sense :)
Karting in the wet is challenging at the best of times, SuperKarting in the wet is like playing footsies with pin-less grenade. Respect.
Thank you Chuck for the post. Amazing how silly we are driving through completely blinding roost of other karts..
I was relearning the track at the same time. That wasn't working so well.
I think driving karts on a car track makes no sense at all. You can gear for much faster speeds which are unsafe in a kart with no driver protection.
Do you feel motorcycles should not race on these tracks also?
And we respect the speed and each other. We don't beat and bang like some car racing. We're adults who spent our own hard earned money and aren't going to do something stupid.
Awesome Chuck . What Range of gears should I be contemplating taking to Daytona ? Honda CR 250. Pre-historic kart .
I was aerodynamically limited to 130 mph when I ran out of horsepower to go faster. Assuming peak power at 10,400 rpm and a 36 inch circumference tire, you'll want a plus one ratio. By that I mean the axle sprocket has 1 more tooth than the engine sprocket. Whether it's a 25:26, or a 27:28, it's mathematically almost the same. Daytona is at sea level and can be cold, have big jets, both main and pilot available, sometimes even a bigger tube. And the time at WOT is longer than a dyno run and repeated faster than any sane dyno testing. It's hard on the engine.
@@chucksterock Thanks Chuck
Were running 1:18.5 and better in shifter karts up at this track
They're just like potato chips, can't have just one!!! I have a garage full of them, need another?

Someone told me this was injector knock and I’m hell glad I been reading ford forms and found this video cause that would have sucked to spend 2500 dollars and still hear that noise 😂
It still won't be cheap unfortunately. I had the tranny re-built while it was off so mo' money. The shop that I had replace the oil pan did not install the flex plate correctly. The flex plate should have been against the crank, then the hardened washer plate and then the fasteners. The flex plate clearly shows where the fastener flanges ate into it leading to failure. So if you do it yourself, don't make that mistake.

How hot do you run the 250's? I usually keep my stock honda 125 around 130f
I've always been around 145F no matter what I do to it. Unlike a 125 that is hard to warm up, these are easily warmed without blankets or towels. That means they also don't loose heat as easily as a 125 and takes more effort to keep cool.
Egt showing 1300? little lean?
As long as the EGT is going up, it's fine.
The FASTEST Lawnmower in Ohio!!!!! And this time I didn't put you off!!! Nice job hangin' on to her Chuck!!!!!
I was actually surprised the tires didn't feel wet slamming the next corner. Doug laid back in case I spun it in front of him. Was a lot of fun.
I Was On Pete Marquette 1225
I see myself in the fireman's seat
What was the cost if the repair
Since the tranny was coming off, I had the shop completely go through the tranny in addition to replacing the flex plate. The total job was $4k.
Awesome footage! I was the assistant fireman and getting training during the run that day.
Flex plate
Had an incredible time operating 1225 when I was there planning on doing it again next year!
We did the excursion the day before too, my wife wants to go back and do it all over again. Hard not to take the opportunity while it's there.
Hey Chuck. Im a member at SRI. Glad you had a good time.
Awesome video. I was the conductor that day and the one standing on the rear of the train. Thank you coming to ride our train.
That's exactly what my 97 is doing now with 365000 miles on it. Thank you for posting!
Glad I could help
Nice going, Chuck. You finished too.
This video literally just made my life better. Had someone looking at it and bc the flexplate wasn't spinning when they got to it they assumed it wasn't flexplate and just stopped. I'm so glad you made this video bc I love my truck and inwas losing my mind. You're my hero today. Thanks a bunch , he will be proceeding with the work now 🤣
I'm glad I was able to help in a small way. I too love my truck, most of the time any ways. Good luck!
This is me now lol
hi chuck i havent raced superkarts since 1990, but i started in 64, your cr doesnt seem very strong , are your temp gauges in c or f , the track looks super quick ,if you change that racecar suit for a set of leathers you wont believe how much faster you will go, fabric suits kill speed,in the vid you can see how much the air is getting in the arms of your suit ,thats drag , the wind dont go through leather,,have fun racing
My temp gauges are in F. I don't think the CHT was accurate as the water temp on the gauge mounted to the pod was reading about 135 F, almost the same or even higher. I know it was jetted pig rich since I didn't get any practice to recalibrate the Jet Tech Pro software I use to set the jet versus ambient weather conditions. If you watch the rear view, I'm blowing a lot of smoke out the back. And my timing was just a little retarded too. Was basically playing it safe since I had a disaster of a season last year due to a coolant additive change that I just couldn't believe was the problem. The track was very quick, I left a lot out there since the only laps I have on the new surface were what you saw above. Leathers would be nice, but at this point in my life it probably won't happen. Might be better if I can get out of my fat boy suit into a smaller size. Still fun though!
Giddy Even, Looking forward to the Dart Opener
