I used to love McDonald's Chicken McNuggets, until the day I found a feather in one of them. I never went to McDonald's again after that.

I was 9 years old in 1978 and I recall seeing this particular mcdonalds tv commercial countless times back then. Unfortunately, we were dirt poor. We could hardly afford groceries. Hunger was a constant companion. So, just forget about eating out. The very few rare times we did get to eat out was only because we were someone else's guest who was paying for us. How much I wished I could afford to drop into the local mcdonalds at my leisure, whenever the mood hit me, as depicted in this commercial. Many was the time these tv commercials for food products, fast food places, supermarkets, etc, served only to torture me because I was watching while on a growling, empty stomach.

The fried chicken reminds me of 'The Founder' when Ray Croc (Michael Keaton) chastised his franchisee friend for adding fried chicken to the menu. lol

Ignore the hideous 60s Ronald Mcdonald and just focus on the look of that restaurant. It's so inviting, especially when you compare it to the bland, extremely boring McDonald's restaurants of 2024. Soulless!

Mcdonald's was careful with the promotion, in 1976 the promotion was a success. Mcdonald's had planned to repeat the promotion in 1980, but since the Olympic games were going to be held in Moscow of the Soviet union and both countries hated each other to death at the time, the United states and its allied countries boycotted, except for Andorra, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, New zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Puerto rico and San marino who supported the boycott, but still attended the Olympic games. Because of this the promotion was cancelled. In 1984, Mcdonald's did the promotion again, but something unexpected happened: in revenge for what happened in 1980, the Soviet union and its allied countries decided not to attend the Olympic games. The problem was that Mcdonald's had already announced the promotion and had already given customers the coupons, so they could not cancel it and well, Mcdonald's lost $10 million dollars. I understand that Mcdonald's HAD fixed the coupons, putting games where the Communist countries never lose.

I wonder who the actor was at 4: 28 playing the adorable corn-fed all-American boy. He’s incredibly good looking. I’m surprised he didn’t have more of a career, though if you’ve ever been to LA you know that very good looking people are a dime a dozen, so he would have been literally one of thousands. Still he has the photogenic looks to have had a substantial career as a model, actor or both.

They lost their BIG Macs and we benefited! - I was a 17 year old going to free ticketed Olympic events my parents got from work and we all got to see a lot of stadium events here at home in LA then get free food with my high school friends after attending from those winning game tickets. 40 years later and now 57, those were the best two weeks in LA history
