You have to measure these using REW. I suspect the rear tweeters are a nightmare from a frequency response standpoint (e.g. comb-filtering) but that is just a guess. I would love to know how they measure

This will be extremely helpful going forward. I don’t know how many times I’ve purchased movies or other media that I already own and didn’t realize it. Most recently it was If but it’s happened many times over the years! I usually just give away my duplicate purchases to who I believe would enjoy them but it’s really hard to see friends and family when you constantly travel and “oh, a used media store!”. I’m fixing to check out a thrift store around the corner from work today.

Useful video, thanks. I noticed you had a 'DVD' category in the Movies section immediately after the 'Blu-ray 3D' category on your application. I've installed the app on my phone but the 'DVD' category isn't showing. Do you have to create it manually and, if so, how? Kind regards.

I do like the idea of an app. But I finally got tired of searching for one I really liked. Been using a Google Sheet for years that I revamped a little to list all movies I own and what format. All the way from VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, BR, BR3D and 4K.

I just started using this let's say about 2 months ago. I really enjoy it. I don't want to dig too deep in terms of cataloging my collection, so for literally just having a list of what I have, this app works great. In the future if I want to dig deeper it has the options there for that. thanks for the review.

It's a brilliant app I can't believe it's free. I've been using it for a year. It's great for keeping track of movies. I also use it a lot for deciding what to watch. It can separate genres, media type i.e dvd bluray or 4k. But I also use it to choose movies on soundtrack types, dolby dts etc. I recently noticed I have around 50 atmos movies but only 5 dtsx films. So, I've been actively trying to seek out dtsx movies to purchase and test. Long story short, it's great! for all sorts or reasons.

I think it's a 3 LED, single chip DLP? Cycles through RGB LED instead of a colour wheel. 3 chip DLP is silly expensive, but would be brighter due to 3x the illumination time with the same light source.

    • @2ndHandHomeTheater
      @2ndHandHomeTheater 4 дні тому

I stand corrected. You're right about it being a 1 chip DLP. When I looked up the specs, it initially said 3 chip, but when I found the manual online, it does say single chip. Thanks for letting me I know. I appreciate the feedback.

I have an old Bose cinematic 2 in my game room & a cheap Vizio 5.1 in my living room. Nothing more than plug and play. More knowledge would be nice because I would like a nice system but don’t even know where to start. Do you think a nice theater can be done in a small 12x12 room? Thanks!

I had an Epson 720p projector for years ‘09-‘12 and upgraded to an Epson 3020 3D projector and it was night and day difference from the first. I had to return it within warranty because a corner of the screen had faulted but I repurchased the same model in 2020 for my theater room. I loved it still at 1080p. I also purchased a 77in LG C9 that summer for my living room. Projectors can’t currently compete with OLED, they both have pros and cons. There is just something awesome about having a 10ft screen for movies and games that others don’t understand.

@@2ndHandHomeTheater looking forward to the release of the calibration series! Friendly suggestion, the more videos you release that have a direct impact on your viewers’ home theatre experience the more your channel will grow. Calibration oriented videos are an example of such. I mean…..who doesn’t want to optimize their projector output? Personally, I thought your video on the Marantz projector was fantastic. You provided a great affordable alternative to a current (and expensive) projector. Let’s face it, a decent current model projector starts at around $6,000 (trust me I know, I own a Sony VPL-VW325ES which I purchased for $5,000 (plus tax) a few years ago). Most people simply cannot afford that kind of expense therefore they desperately are looking for an alternative. Don’t get me wrong, I find it mildly interesting you love the ‘Volcano’ DVD but not quite as much as learning about the Marantz projector or how to calibrate my projector At the end of the day, you have a unique format that I am convinced holds a tremendous amount of promise (ands fills a void in the current UA-cam content offering)…….keep up the hard work!

    • @2ndHandHomeTheater

I really appreciate the honest feedback. I'll probably give the media related videos a bit of a rest. While I enjoy varying up my content, I do understand that the main focus of this channel is home theater and not so much physical media. The calibration videos are my big focus for now, but I like your idea to try and make the videos more impactful to the viewers. That's a really good piece of advice. Thanks again for all the support.

Agreed. As bad azz as it sounds I'm not about to go adding a 9.1 or more speaker system to my home. The fact is most people don't do that either. For the most part that's pretty much reserved for people with a healthy disposable incomes or an extra room.- That's why I don't understand the push to drop original soundtracks just to add Atmos tracks on older movies. Often times the new sound mix has less impact.

I have the Anchor Bay blu-ray 1- disc edition. It looks okay, and it does have both versions. No special features at all 👎 and the menu screen is fine. It features music and scenes from the film. However, i gotta say the menu screen for the ultimate edtion is wicked. The dark red color and graphics are really cool. More often than not, dvd menus are more creative and interactive than br or 4ks. Dvd menus are a lost art form. Just like laserdiscs had the edge on packaging, dvds had cool menus. Each new format loses a little something while upgrading the picture and sound.

I remember buying a VERY expensive Samsung bluray player back in the day that I eventually had to get rid of because Samsung stopped supporting the unit and it wouldn’t play new release discs. Absolutely unacceptable. I’d buy a Panasonic UB420 or 820 and never look back. They play all the old formats, have fantastic upscaling, and will make HDR content viable on older displays/ projectors.

Honestly, unless you need the analog audio outs the UB420 is equal to the 820 and even the 9000 in terms of PQ. That player was, in my mind, a requirement for any projector owner up until recently. Last year I acquired the BenQ HT4550i and for the first time ever I turned off all the HDR enhancements on the Panasonic- the BenQ just doesn’t need them anymore. Have you thought about ripping your discs? I’ve been circling the Zidoo for a minute just not sure if I have the patience to rip my entire library!

Now having finished the video, that was really nostalgic for me seeing the whole update process as I remember doing that and sitting thinking "oh, what if there's an error in the CD" when I updated it. But like you, it worked a treat and I remembered seeing the abilities in the picture setting to set the Gamma to 2.4 and showing my wife on her new copy of Sex and the City movie the black limo and tux on the groom to show her the difference in the picture from a 2.0 down to 2.4 for more natural picture. Really cool to see this player going strong and coming up on 20 years old soon. Pioneer really made things well. Would loved to have seen this on a Kuro back in the day

This was my first Blu-Ray player and I loved it as it unleashed my Sim2 Domino into 1080i over component cables vs 576p on my 120" screen back in 2007 and with its on board 8-Channel audio outputs into my DENON receiver I could play DOLBY True and DTS Master audio on 1999 DENON which I used for Ac-3 Laserdisc and its additional 6-Channel for SACD & DVD-audio for the best of everything. My biggest reason for selling the pioneer on after getting rid of the theatre room was the load times. I bought a used PlayStation 3 which cut the load time of T2 (Skynet edition) from almost 5min down to a few seconds. The pioneer was so slow by comparison and no 3d for my plasma either so it went off. Which I do regularly regret for time to time. Nice to see it has some love and new appreciation here though 😊

Great video! I found a superbit movie at a thrift store today and had never heard of the format. Looking forward to do a comparison when I get home.
