Photographing the Scottish Highlands ON FILM
Last February, myself and @benjyjohnson drove up to Scotland to photograph the highlands for four days whilst sleeping and camping in his van.
I shot on a mixture of Portra 400 & HP5 and all the film was shot on my Pentax 67.
I hope you all enjoyed the video and I'll catch you on the next one!

POV Photoshoot | Wedding Photos in the Austrian Alps
Переглядів 2718 місяців тому
Wedding photography in the Austrian Alps, skiing through the mountains all captured on a GoPro for the perfect POV! This one's a little different as Becki & Will got hitched a couple of days prior which we also photographed so there wasn't much need for us to direct them on the day as they already knew what to do! Also, when you're all wearing skis, there's only so much movement you can do but ...

A couple of weeks ago, Freya & I spent 6 days in Austria to photograph a wedding. This video is the adventures outside of the wedding. Exploring the Austrian landscapes, photographing them on 35mm & medium format. An insane country with some of the best scenery I've come across. A place I absolutely will be returning to one day. I hope you all enjoyed the video! Feel free to leave comments, lik...

My FIRST ever roll in a Contax G1
Переглядів 7 тис.10 місяців тому
This is my first ever trip out with my new Contax G1. I woke up EARLY and headed to the nearby seaside town of Beer in the South of England. Loaded up a roll of Kodak Gold 200 and starting photographing the coast as the sun rose. I recorded this video as a "if the camera works, it could be a nice video" so it's done off the cuff & filmed with my iPhone so apologies for that. Hope you all enjoy ...

Great video. After thinking about it for literally decades, just pulled the trigger on a 67. No left hand grip though. Is it really helpful? It's such an iconic piece of the kit, but I cant imagine it. Isn't that where your left wrist is supposed to be if you focus with your left hand under the lens like a civilized person?
Wow. More G1 please
@@minhta7540 yo thank you!
Epic video, running out of film on a trip is always a big fear of mine. Love the work you’ve shared on Instagram as well, excited for what you’ll do next!
unbelievable. What a trip!
I like the pov. of wedding photography, can u do some more
@@chrisneon_ I will hopefully do more but I want this channel to be more about landscapes & gear, but if a nice wedding happens I’ll try my best to create something
at 6:26 you showed a panoramic photo of the couple that you took with the Pentax 67, I would like to know if it was cropped or not. it was a very beautiful shot by the way.
@@omidincarnation4723 hey hey! It wasn’t cropped at all! It was straightened up a little bit in post but the image was the image 🫶

it's time for a custom right hand wooden grip 😌
I wanted a Pentax 67 but the price for one of those 6x7 & 67 were too steep So I went with a RB67 Pro S P67 one day maybe in few years
Great classical camera~ You are rocking all. Thank you.
Check out its 90mm f:2.8.Shorter near limit, and sharper than the 105mm.
Beautiful images mate. You're a great Pentax 67 ambassador!
beautiful images
Do you recommend only the sigma 50mm 1.4 dg dn for the whole wedding ?
Hi mate, im just wondering what camera are using on your chest?
dear by grainyboi please can you give me a ligtroom preset?
The 105mm f2.4 is kind of legendary.
In a sense, but there is little objective reason for the legend. It is mainly empty social media hype. Of the four lenses which might be considered a "normal" lens for the P67, the 105mm is the oldest and least technically advanced. It originated with the camera and has never been significantly updated. (*) It achieves the lowest overall resolution. Its 2.4 maximum aperture is only an insignificant half stop faster than either of the two 90mm 2.8 lenses. It virtue (?) of a shallow depth of field for portrait work is not as shallow as a 165mm 2.8 (or older 150mm 2.8), and the extra focal length of those lenses gives them a more natural perspective for portrait work. The only effect of the "legend" was to raise the used street price for the 105mm from $125- $150 to $600 - $900. (*) The 105mm was modified around 1971 to replace its thorium doped lens element with a different formula of high defraction index optical glass. Thorium doped lenses are slightly radioactive. While these elements were used by almost every lens maker at the time, only Pentax advertised it as a benefit. In response, there was a popular hue and cry about the dangers of radioactive lenses, total nonsense, of course. Pentax got negative public reaction over the 105mm for the 67 and the 50mm 1.4 for the Spotmatic. It reacted by removing the radioactive element from the 105mm. The modification did not affect the performance of the lens, for better or worse.
Loved the video! How are you filming yourself? Is there a go pro on you?
Respect Sir ! 🤝 This is amaaaazing ! 🎉 How did you do the color animation ?
Man…. You really strung this video out….
@@MIZRAIM1906 you didn’t have to listen to me for all of it chief - I was having a nice time talking about my fave cam 😂
I'm 16 and I've just gotten into professional photography. My first 2 weddings have been great but I just can't get lighting right. At the start of the video you're in a dimly lit hotel room with no lighting equipment, how do you get your shots so bright and clean? I'm using an M50 mkii with a sigma f2.4 17-50mm and I have to bring my girlfriend with me to hold a light because I just don't pick up enough light in these settings.
Love the editing style mate, winter here in New Zealand at the moment have to try this!
damn! i wanna see more of these as a wedding photographer myself.
Beautiful!!
I bought my Pentax 6X7 system back in 1980's new. Still use it to this day. Have an extensive collection of lenses, view finders and accessories for the system. Here is some advice: First look to acquire the later Super Multi Coated SMC lenses. They offer superior contrast, anti-flaring and color rendition over the earlier generation lenses. In fact, the SMC lenses were better than the contemporary Zeiss medium optics of the day. Particularly for Black & White use. With very high contrast for B&W printing. You will want to swap out that older 55mm lens for the newer SMC model. The system has a 135mm Macro lens which is a must have for close-up work. And Extension tubes were made. Most of the system lenses are relatively Cheap to buy. And many are in excellent condition. Pentax also made shuttered lenses to overcome the 30th second fixed flash sync speed. Next, always use the proper lens hood for your lenses. NO top pro DP would be caught not using a compendium shade system on a motion picture camera. Neither should you. Overt flaring and poor contrast is for amateurs, clean flare-free and high contrast images are Pro-Domain. So start acting like a Pro and use the proper lens shades for your lens collection. Ebay makes it easy to acquire 6X7 gear. Get filters like Polarizers, ND, Infared and the like. Next, get a second body as a back-up or to have a B&W and Color film body for ready field use. Always carry spare batteries. By the way, you have a 1st generation meter prism that does not have an auto off feature. So it did NOT damage your camera. It simply drained your battery. Pentax sold a pocket battery holder to keep the battery warm in cold weather. These cameras were used for mountaineering photography. The 6X7 was advertised as the "Ideal Format". Because when printing 8X10 or 11X14, the format would fit without having to crop, hence ideal. I have a Photo Diox 35mm panoramic adapter kit which allows me to use 35mm film with my 55mm or 45mm lenses. A whole lot cheaper than a Hasselblad Pan X camera!!! They make these panoramic adapters as Pre-fab printing kits dirt cheap on Ebay with proper masks. Finally, you can purchase a wind-up shutter release device to give your camera a shutter delay for self portrait work. All the lenses in the system have Infared focus marks. So infared film can be used. Buy the Pentax Brochures and there are medium format books about the Pentax 67 system. Medium Format Cameras by Theodore DiSante is a good book to get. Take your time and enjoy growing with the 67 System.
There was a company called Beattie that produced super bright inter screen viewfinder glass for the Pentax 6X7. Beattie produced a whole line of inter screen glass for all sorts of cameras from 35mm to large format.
try 4X5 and get back to us
@@throughmyeyes9940 haha I’m not made of money!!
Hey Chris really enjoyed the video and I'm receiving my own 67 system with 105mm next week. Got a question how did you manage to shoot those beautiful flares with the 55mm 3.5? Many people say the 55mm f4 is generally a better lens (sharper and lighter) but with 9 elements in the lens I don't think it will produce the same lens flare. What do you reckon?
You have an amazing eye for composition and your use of the golden hour light was fantastic! I love the whole vibe of the video as well, it was very calming. Please don't stop making videos man!
Insane location! Love the concept. Beautifully captured ❤
Amazing! 🤩 Do you have more?
Probably well-meant, but like many Pentax 67 "review" type videos, passes along misinformation. The metering prism fitting the 6x7 and 67 models came in two flavors. The original version has a mechanical power switch, which you have to trigger to turn the meter on, then trigger again to turn off. The meter draws power from the camera battery, so when the user forgot to turn off the meter when not using the camera, it would drain the battery and kill camera operation. Pentax got enough negative feedback from early users, that within a year or two, they changed the power switch to automatically turn the meter off after 30 seconds or so. This prevented accidental battery drain, but it can cause the meter to shut off before metering is finished. (The lesser of evils, I guess.) Failure of the meter switch as complained of here? I've used Pentax 6x7 for nearly 45 years, watch dozens of YT videos, and this is the first time I've ever heard of it, so it's not a regular issue. (I'll admit that while I have a metering prism on all three of my bodies, I rarely use them in deference to using my spot meter.)
im surprised you don't have more subscribers
what 120 color film do use for these?
Hi Chris You have convinced me, been sat on the fence for a while. Ready to pull the trigger now ! Cheers
Very nice video RS. Canada
Nice video. I grew up with Canon F1s. Thinking about a 6x7. I so wish he would talk at a more normal rate.
