Vickie's Garden Evolution
Приєднався 23 жов 2014
Hi! I'm Vickie. I garden in western Iowa, Midwest USA, zone 6a. We have extremely cold winters and quite hot summers with an average amount of rain. My home was built in 1880 in Italianate style on approximately a .25 acre plot in a historical district. I have split my property into five main garden areas. On the south side, I have a huge terraced garden that fronts the street. This my pollinator garden, abundant with lots of color and sun loving perennials. Also, on the south side, but on the main (upper) level, is my rose garden (and companion plants), which is directly in the front of my home. The east side has numerous trees and a part shade garden, this is where I have my hydrangeas and other shade loving perennials. On the west side, my fenced-in narrow side yard presents a challenge in that it receives about 2 hours of hot midday sun, but only indirect light the rest of the day. And finally, on the north end i have a raised beds garden. I also mix in natives throughout. Welcome!

Hi there. Is that the sidewalk at the bottom of your garden if so that would be awesome people walking past will have a treat like an amphitheatre ❤. There is a church near to us and volunteers transformed it. The effect is breathtaking. :)
Sorry to hear about the deer. I can’t advise sadly. But you come across very well and thanks for showing us around your lovely garden. I look forward to seeing more content.
I was about to say the cat was brave! 😂😂. Thanks for explaining the sunlight situation it adds so much. Great video your in the groove for sure. 😊
Thank you for your comments and questions! I do not feel very comfortable with doing videos so your comments helped boost my confidence a lot. To answer your question, yes that sidewalk runs along the front of my house, which is terraced and pretty wide. When I first moved in it was just grass, and steeply sloped and difficult to mow. I immediately saw the potential to make a huge garden in that space. Once I am back in my house next spring/summer, I will be doing a lot of big changes to the gardens on the main level. Thanks again for watching and commenting, it means so much to me 😊
You have incredible gardens! Absolutely beautiful!! 💚
Thank you so much!🩷
Hey did you ever figure this out? My lemony lace looks pretty rough currently.
I am not sure what it was, but I cut off the couple of lower branches that were affected, and as you can see in later videos the lemonlace bounced back just fine next spring. I am planning to move it to a bit sunnier spot next spring.
🌱🌿🌱
Beautiful garden. 👍 My support. 😊
Thanks for visiting!
Beautiful flowers! 😊
That b7tterfly 8s different
Beds are so hard to es5ablish. I got tan cement sand and red clay over 1000 sunflowers seeded only around 100 grew and bloomed. First time flower garden. My w9rst r9w became the only row. Squirrels g9t ab9ut 10 flowers
Yeah, it's really been a battle. I should have covered with cardboard and compost/mulch - but I didn't know any better at the time and I tried to kill it off by covering with a thick black plastic cover for about 6 months. But a ton of weeds and grass grew in my "wild flower garden" (year 1)...it was wild indeed. Im starting to like the bottom terrace more, but I still don't have the 2nd terrace planted heavily enough to prevent weeds, and that terrace is extra challenging to add mulch/compost to. I was hoping to get that looking good this year - but then the tree happened. Oh well, it will eventually get there. A garden is never done anyway, so I guess what's the rush.
Have you tried adding adding compost to your soil? I wonder if it's just low in nutrients (if your germination rate is quite low for seeds)..?
Could you divide the oregano and get multiple plants from that mother plant??
Yes, I did divide some off this spring.
I think keeping it orange and yellow will make it easier for you and future occupants to that rental place
Awww I'm so sorry about your home. I'm happy everyone is fine except of course the fish. I'm surprised you don't have anymore views I think you should do a few shorts bring some traffic to your videos putting in the title what actually happened. I think this might help many people especially regarding insurance its so important to have it you just never know what can happen. Thanks for sharing you are very strong. I hope everything is going well.
I just your comment, thank you for your thoughts and concern. ❤
Nice property for the short term. I agree clean it up and leave it better than you found it.
where is the veggie patch?
Lol
Beautiful looking garden, its a pollinators dream.
Sorry for your loss. 🙏🏾🌱
Thank you
New subscribers here! Greetings from Denmark 🥰
How exciting! Thank you so much ❤ I've been watching you two for quite awhile, so I'm delighted. Hey Allen, we have something in common, I grew up in Georgia too, I think I heard you mention that is where you were originally from.
@@VickiesGardenEvolution I did! From south Georgia (down near Waycross :) ) I don't miss the high humidity right now and the gnats right now... but lots of other things I do miss.
Beautiful garden.
Thank you ❤
At about 13:00 i start talking about astilbe, i meant artemisia! Oh also, when I was showing some Calla lilies, I called them Canna lilies by mistake.
Interesting garden - I'm growing on terraces too, so it's good to see how others manage this. Thanks!
Thanks, I hope you'll keep watching ❤
So many great spaces you have in your garden! 🥰
Thanks so much 😊
Oh yay! Can't wait to see when everything wakes up ❤😊
Everything is looking beautiful 😍 can't wait to see an update 😊
Thank you! 😊
That's so cool. They look like painted lady butterflies. What do you think?😊 I'm a new subscriber.
Thanks for subbing! I just saw your message, so sorry for the late reply. I'm not sure on the type of butterfly, I'm still learning. But I keep adding more and more natives, so hopefully we'll see lots of species.
do you need a staff to build a greenhouse
