    Hi , Mike and Phil good afternoon. I got worked up a little from trying to learn my casting with a 11 ft 3.5/4 mesh size cast net.. I had the mesh sizes jumbled. I am on the 35 widener row now in making a 7 ft 3/4 to the inch mesh net and after that will be the normal then double line row. Since it is 35 widener meshes it is something less than an inch left to make it 7 ". Got this now neat and all and- can be- won't give me such a hassle to get it casting very efficiently although I will need a remark on my apprentice work. All in all am good and I believe you guys doing fine and better. From what I'm seeing in these UA-cam videos thanks these videos keep me up each time teaching me something. Thanks Louis Oguna.

    The worst that I wanted to look at were some mistakes on me older cast net, now I have this and can truly get it. Mike, I just found your videos. What a treasure of information. I'm curious Mike, as long as you've been making cast nets, have you ever heard of (or used years ago) the eye of a ham bone used for the neck of the net? I grew up throwing a 4ft cotton net that was made locally in Beaufort SC, and the old guy used ham bone eyes for the neck. Loving watching your videos.

    I have made a few spanish nets. I always bought the bagging from brunson net. I hang the lead line on the bagging and then sew it onto the net. Sew the bag where it meets and braille it. Buying the bagging saves knitting the extra two or so feet extra. I believe the bag I buy has 32 rows. So its more than 2 feet.

  • @robertblair3606
    @robertblair3606 4 місяці тому

    I also slice my lead line inside my last lead. I crimp the last lead onto the leadline. Its just how I prefer to do it. Its not better but I think looks better.

  • @robertblair3606
    @robertblair3606 4 місяці тому

    I agree the way you hang a net is probably the most important part of net making. I have found the reason for nets not opening fully is most often having a too long lead line. Better to be a little short than long.

    And if I may add, how does one do the math for the amount of wideners for a net? I'm of the idea there is a probably defined ratio that adds up the sum of the widers to have so that one makes a perfect round net.I am doing the 14 widener which also, as it happens again, is my first handmade cast net to have an idea to make after trying for a year and a half following other means o doing it. I have two others that I had made on a previous occasions to now until I was half-witted. I Love You guys!!! Kudos. And a good job well done.I hope you know where that comes from. And really I went into churh last sunday holy day. I had been away 5:24 having nothing in my hand to give as church offering and tithing and for chuch collection days (which is once every month) that is acceptable bedore the Church. I keep bare faith to have faith it's going to be a thing of the past, I will say. THANKS VERY MUCH.

    Hi, Did get me a little drawn aback, the many knots I got when the twine was finished from the needle and I having to tie in a new one after wards from the another needle and rejoin from the one one the netting. I will have to improvise as with the video one. I am learning how to make the loop correctly and from now on whenever something comes up I reaally will make a point of asking you guys. Thanks.

  • @louisoyugi837
    @louisoyugi837 6 місяців тому

    Hello, Mike and Phil. I am still working on my netting technique. There's no hint of finding any bonded nylon here I stuck to the only material at hand: that is normal twine. I have gotten around the problem of its uncurling when I pinch it with a scissor blades. I used to tie 2 knottings next to the place I needed on each side then I would cut inbetween them. I then decided on clear nail polish then I purchased a gas ligher to burn through the nylon preventing it from uncurling. And since the material is not dacron it has a tendency to do slipknots as I'm getting on the wideners. And for the widener I do three knots. One securing the mesh to the meshboard and one on each string of the mesh secured to the mesboard. Three instead of two knots at the expanders. I also do such three knots in sequence all around for the normal mesh..
