I read somewhere that John Wayne really hated the ending of High Noon, and did Rio Bravo as a kind of counterpoint.
AUDREY A MUSA SAGRADA DIVINA , OCULTISTA ETERNA E IMORTAL
A really creepy film.
Wish this was in the public domain...
That's because Alastair Sim has a boardway background and probably others.
That makes a lot of sense
It's interesting that you say this version should have spent MORE time on Christmas past, whereas in your more recent review of the Alastair Sim film, you say that film spends a little TOO MUCH time in Christmas past. So it sounds like you're looking for a happy medium between the two.
At the end, you reference a 1930s version. Do you mean the version starring Reginald Owen? Most people debate whether the Sim or the Owen is the better film. Even in my own family, a couple of us prefer one, and a couple prefer the other. But you seem to feel that the Sim is far better. I love them both, and I especially like Tiny Tim in the Owen version. He's played by Terry Kilburn, who is still alive at age 98. What really shocks me is that you've never seen this before. I've been watching both of them my whole life.
Yes, the one with Reginald Owen from MGM. I reviewed it last year and I personally prefer Sim's version of Scrooge
Sort of a precursor to "The Big Bang Theory" with the hot girl surrounded by a gaggle of science nerds.
Smash the like, I had a great time. Thanks for having me
Thanks for being on!
Nominated for Oscar Best Film 1939 - a year which historically had a lot of good movies of which this deservedly is one.
I found it on my library Hoopla. Loved this movie and will watch each year now.
There's a Christmas scene with the play of the little children and Fr. O'Malley singing a Christmas song with the older kids around the piano. I really enjoyed this movie both times seeing it. I disliked like how there's not much explanation when the man comes back after leaving his wife for 13 years.. but okay, it's a movie. But overall I loved it, especially reflecting on what many scenarios meant personally for me. I think it makes a big difference when you can relate or think of people in real life the characters and situations remind you of. But nice review! I've never seen White Christmas so will have to see it!
I think that's a great point about relating to the characters. Thanks for watching!
The 1951 Alistair Sim version is a classic and must surely be the best black and white version.
My favorite movie! Love Barry MacKay too! Owens in buried in Boise Idaho.
I just watched this movie. I loved it.
Can´t listen to that disturbing audio.
I cannot find this version anywhere on the Net!
last year it was on HBOMax, not sure about this year
Reginald Owen was assigned this part at the last minute. All along Lionel Barrymore was originally cast for the part and broke his hip. So Owen wasn’t really prepared because he wasn’t expecting this. I thought under these circumstances, he did a spectacular job. It showcases his talent as a versatile actor. He held his own very well, against the odds.
Ginger Rogers was a brilliant actress and won best actress Oscar in 1941 for Kitty Foyle. If you've only seen Ginger Rogers in 2 movies you've never lived, she made 73! Watch Bachelor Mother for a top notch Christmas movie, made in 1939 with Ginger, David Niven and a cute little kid.
@@ArthurLeng-o4r will do! Thanks for the recommendations
Did we watch the same film? The behavior of the one cultist on seeing Jacqueline about to drink the poison is explained in an earlier scene. She was the only one who actually was friends with Jacqueline and felt kindly toward her. She never believed that the cult would really follow through with the threat. Many who make such promises to cults and other groups never believe that the promise is something real that would be acted upon. One could put the events of Cat People as happening after these events which fixes the problem of Judd's death in Cat People. I find this one of the most atmospheric of the Lewton films. Jacqueline had mental instability before the cult and it drew her to the cult. She had provided the room for the time when she herself wanted out of life, not when the cult said so. A very complex look at a type of mental instability that one did not see often filmed at that time. And no, Conway did not play the character in any other film.
Legendary

Sorry, I have to disagree, I thought this was a great cult film and have loved it for many years. It had a sinister shadowiness about it, and a dark menacing vibe. I like weird, and it had a great line from the John Donne poem, 'The Holy Sonnet' featured in it - "I run to death, and death meets me as fast, and all my pleasures are like yesterday". So mortality is unavoidable, i Love it all round. Never mind, a difference of opinion never hurt anyone, and we are all different in our tastes and sometimes how we see and interpret things. Maybe we are supposed to fill in the blanks, a bit like a David Lynch movie.
@@claudinedemantet hey there you go, art is subjective for sure. Thanks for watching

*I give it five out of five. This is the very best film noir that was ever made.*

I saw this flick. The mission - to take out the scariest of Nazi-held field cannons in a very-high-security Wehrmacht cave across the hilt of the Aegean sea. If you were to live in a house about 3/4 of a mile away from these big deafening cannons and they fired, it would not only shatter a lot of your windows--it can cause cracks in your exterior structure just like what happens during frost quakes, thanks to the resonant frequencies from the guns' big blasts.
June Lockhart (Lassie, Lost in Space, etc) played Belinda Cratchit. Third from left, I think, in the photo at 2:44 in this video. Her parents played Mrs. and Mr. Cratchit. Lockhart is 99.
I apologize for the audio on my mic. I did not realize it was bad until after it was recorded. But it was still a great time with Adam regardless
Congratulations President Trump! #45 #47
Excellent point I love what you said about their relationship at the beginning! Friendship and respect across party lines is what we need today. Unfortunately we let the media demonize everyone around us and we lose sight of our common humanity, values, and in this case interests

I really like this one. It's one of Hitchcock's most underrated movies IMO. The camerawork in this film was very innovative and very progressive considering this was the very early days of sound film when the cameras were bulky and heavy. There was an early scene when the women are sitting in the house and the camera is tracking left to right from room to room with no cuts for three minutes. Also in the Jury room when the jurors are sitting around a table, the camera goes back and forth from character to character. Modern viewers might not notice these scenes because they are standard today, but they were very innovative for 1930. We also have the first example of interior monologue in British cinema. In the scene where he is shaving and talking to himself in the mirror, Hitchcock had Herbert Marshall’s voice playing from a phonograph, because it was not possible to post-dub voiceover in 1930. Then he had a live orchestra playing on set for the background music, using the prelude from Tristan und Isolde by Robert Wagner. Also in the scene where they were announcing the guilty sentence and he kept the camera in the Jury room, so we can't see the verdict, we can only hear it. We are left in a room with a cleaner smoking someone else's cigar, and yet its very engaging. I also like the scene in the courtroom when the jurors were challenging Sir John and someone said "What have you got to say about that Sir John". Then the next time someone challenged him two people said it, then three people, until everyone said it as they were questioning him. It was really well done with some impressive rapid cutting. The trapeze scene at the end was amazing. When he climbed that rope you are wondering what he is going to do its very suspenseful. Then the way the trapeze was swinging was very dramatic and very convincing and very powerful with yet more impactful cutting.
Thanks for watching! You are absolutely correct
Nice
