RC Flying with science background!
Men starring at the sky,
men starring at weird colorful graphs,
men starring at a multitude of zigzagging black and colored lines on wastly oversized plans,
men talking using unmemmorizable abbreviations and
men smiling with cut or glued together fingers und wood dusty clothes.
If this all makes sense to you and reminds you of your youth, the last two hours at the garage or your plans for the weekend,
then I guess we share the same hobby and interests!
Here you find everything I - the RCScienceGeek - unearth in my spare time regarding RC Flying, RC Plans and Planes, TX-RX Technology, CAD, Aerodynamics and the most enjoyable build kits out there on this planet. It's all geeky and nerdy and no outsider will understand, but we are loving it!
The RCScienceGeek especially enjoys Balsa RC Gliders, Nurfluegel and experimental Aircrafts. He designs and builds his own planes with Tools like XFLR5, Fusion360 for competing in F3L and F5L RES competitions.

RevRep KFM v1 final - forward swept flying wing with KFM airfoil
#rcplane #rcflying #diy #nurfluegel #experimental I made some minor changes to the first version: Increased the chord length at the inner section until the two rudders. This helped to decrease the angel of attack for the zero moment state of the plane. The ailerons are now straight and I could even lower the total weight of the plane by some grams. Now the plane flies really nicely. It turns pr...
RevRep KFM v1b demo flight of a forward swept flying wing
#rcplane #rcflying #experimental #nurfluegel #diy Today there was no wind after the rain. So I took out the RevRep in the modified version with normal "flaps" for this demo video. It's quite difficult to fly close enough to the camera to get some good shots of the plane but I hope we did it. The RevRep now has normal flaps instead of the moving wing tips as in Version 1a. Turning and role speed...
RevRep KFM v1 forward swept flying wing maiden flight
#rcplane #rcflying #experimental #diy RevRep KFM is an experimental rc glider with a forward swept wing, wing tip flaps and only Kline-Fogleman airfoils. The maiden flight was smooth but showed that the maneuverability leaves much to be desired, mainly because of the low efficiency of the wing tip flaps. Documentation at www.rc-network.de/forum/showthread.php/758765-RevRep-ein-Erprobungsnuri
Do you have any plans for this? I would love to build one myself. Thank you
Have a look into the linked thread. Post #35: www.rc-network.de/threads/revrep-ein-erprobungsnuri.777020/post-11878849
Looks pretty BIRDlike swooping and coming about ! BRAVO !!!
Can't you just use the micro module instead of the nano and avoid all the hackery?
No, that's not going to work. If you have a look at the 3D model linked in the description, you'll see that the micro module is far too large to fit into the module bay. Nano module has the right size in terms of height and width, but the bay of x9 lite is not built according to the specs. It's too deep.
@@the-rc-science-geek What if you have a Taranis X9D Plus 2019 Access?
@@thunderzone802 That's a completely different story. The X9D has a bigger case with a micro bay on the back. I guess normal micro modules should work.
I’m building a WIKI, and I’ll try using linear servos which should right in.
Thank you for you helpful building tips.
Thanks for sharing!

hello, can you send me the drawings, I want to do it too
Interesting video. Good to see your F3L event. Good to see how the day went from light winds and light thermals to dealing with windy conditions where it's very hard to achieve a max. big gusts of wind to contend with also. Nice that you pointed out good sources of thermals.
fantastic. thanks. I'm in Nelson, B.C. Canada. All alone in my sailing.
Enjoyed the video, thanks.
I'm wish I saw this video b4 I gotthw module lol. I might try taking a Dremel to the side walls on my x9 lite 🤣🤔🤫🫣 we'll see how that goes. I pretty decent with a dremal though lol🤞
Be careful not to ruin the back of your radio! That's also a reason why i made myself this adapter...
What happened to part 3 ????
Somehow it got lost in the mist of the past. Not sure if i can create part 3 anymore...
When can we DISCUSS the DISCUS launch ?
Nice play on words! Is it bad or good? I am not an expert but Franz seems to do it quite regularly...
beautiful, where is the center of gravity?
Sorry, had to look it up as the plane has already been dismantled. The CG was somewhere between 55-60mm in front of the leading edge.
Thank you @@the-rc-science-geek
Hi my friend, have been thinking about buying one of those, could you please share your impressions?!
Hey! on rcgroups there is not a lot of information about the speed bow. Maybe you find someone here below: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?1564706-Show-your-Nurflügel/page61#post49311265
On rc-network there are tons of descriptions and discussions, but all in german: www.rc-network.de/threads/speed-bow.11881572/
@@the-rc-science-geek hi! I have been Reading stuff on Rc-network, Google translate helps here.
I guess so. But I was never really satisfied with the circling. Especially in windy conditions. Not sure about the root of the issue. On the other hand, I know some people who are really enjoying the plane and are also doing good in competitions.
information 1:40 design wonkiness. in a swept wing, the (half) main spars Should be located at thirty-percent of chord.!!! with the central main spar being located at thirty percent of MAC. the use of CF for main spars was a POOR choice. because CF is HEAVY. because the ribs are Nearly Bisected.!!! and, because the excess outboard-located mass of the CF adversely affects the span-wise dom/roll-axis stability/control authority. the use of half-ribs is just silly. it is probably that the span of the ailerons is excessive, for the application. (if the ailerons are modified, they should continue to extend to the wingtips.) googletranslate
I've noticed the same wood quality with Gruner kit from Hollein.
Another Jart competition. So ridiculous to land this beautiful model like a jart nose first for the sake of "competition". It just take the beauty of soaring out of it all. I am a competition sailplane pilot (WN)) and large span rc gliider builder and have no interest whatsoever in these ridiculous "compeititons". Stupid
Agree 100%.
I agree.. Slamming the model into the ground is a pointless excersise.. The rules should be changed to have 2 poles with sensors on either side that log the crossing.. Like a virtual gate..
I have thinking about something like that plenty times
Just do it! With KFM Profiles it is pretty simple...
Great report. Loved watching. Cheers
Hi, looking for tips for wing mounting. I see in the WIKI ads what appears to be tape holding wings to fuse. A strap would also work. What is the best mounting method?
Dks, Peter

sorry, the vid is still in the making. Too busy at the moment. Pls consult rcgroups or rc-network thread for the meantime...
Stecklandungen 😵💫!
Super Video! Es gibt das wieder, was diesen Sport auszeichnet. Bauen und Fliegen. Und ein miteinander!
That’s really cool! Good looking plane and matching scenery!
Looks more like a hammer throw to me, but what do I know about tossing stuff.
Are there any models that stand out for a choice in this category?
Not really, albeit the guys from Admont RES Team have a pretty awesome model. But that's top secret and not available on the market. On the other hand they practice a lot. And i guess practice and a good team are the key to success! The airplane is quite unimportant - all modern RES gliders can win a competition. Even the good old MKS!
I like this model! Watch my channel!
Would you please turn off the vacuum cleaner during filming? Thanks!
sorry, that's not a vacuum. It's a snow canon in the background - no way of turning that off by myself... 😉
It has a fuselage and a vertical stabilizer, hence it's not a flying wing. Without the vertical stab and the fuse, you wouldn't be able to throw it like that. Very nice plane with very nice behavior though, better than a flying wing. If you add a small fixed horizontal stab on that (around -5 degrees incidence) you can choose a more efficient airfoil by the way, or just fly without having to raise the flaperons (more efficient).
well, in technical terms you are right - it's a tailless airplane. But we shouldn't start comparing tailless and conventional planes. Both have it's pros and cons...
The advantages of forward swept wings are supposed to include lower risk of tip stall and less washout needed so I wonder what your change of angle attack wash out is at the tips?
The wing has no explicite wash out, but different profiles on the inner and the outer section. Please have a look at the thread i linked to in the description. Have a look at post #35, there is a complete documentation of the plane...

Wau !! Toll gemacht Kjell !!👍
very cool! looks like a weird bird lol
I had the impression that real birds were quite interested in the plane. More than usually. To me it looks a bit like from starwars...
I have replaced them all. Was pretty simple and then you don't have any problems on contests...
very nice
Cooles Video ,mit schönen Momenten ! Respekt
