Carlsbad Lagoon Fishing ! ( Halibut / Bay Bass )
This fishing sesh was really a good one , landed on multiple bass and as well as some halibuts, did lose a lot as well but thats part of fishing . We didn't get any live bait but it ended up working for us either way .

Today we went out on a skiff out from dana landing and it was pretty dope for our first time. We were hoping to catch a legal butt but not success in that but there was other fish caught which made the trip fun. Today the mission was to get/find a bite on a halibut and it was accomplished. The live bait were tricky to get but there is always the harbor to go get yourself fresh bait, although we only caught one halibut it was a pretty slow day with only 3 catches but it is what it is . Today was a successful day with the croaker bites and most of the fish we caught today came from lug worms! Went out to the Oceanside Pier for some spotfin croakers and the bite was very good, all the fish landed were on blood worms. How do you live bait
The first fish your Dad caught is called a Turbot (good eating). We'd catch a lot of them when I was a kid fishing in Huntington Beach Harbor.

I only use 20 pound braid with a leader.
What is the best time of day to come here?
When the fish goes into cover try releasing the ball and give the fish a minute or two to come out. Bass love cover.

I run 30lb braided with a 30lb Fluorocarbon leader for all inshore saltwater. Never had an issue with breakage.
For the lagoon and our southern california region, for small baits 11lb braid is all I need. 1 mile out on boat/kayak need more lb. All personal preference

10:00what braid line you using ? I use 8lb and 11lb PE braid line. For the lagoon and surf. 2 lines that I use 16lb. Its personal preference

How/where did u catch the live bait. I have been out here a few times (mainly at night) and have only really caught stingrays and skates.
The bait you can catch the same place you just got to throw on a sabiki rig with some tiny pieces of squid and a bobber your set

I always wanted to fish the lagoon bc of how dandy it looked beach side but realized jet skis are all over the place. Stingray ate your Nate bc that sardine was probably near dead for some reason just hovering the bottom instead of in the column

Cross the train tracks and walk to the jet ski side and u will get White Sea bass and short fin corvina this time of year
what rig are you using to catch the halibut, went the other day on the skiff like you and couldn't get a halibut on the live bait or lures
Using a Carolina rig , what i noticed was they usually come for smaller bait , and fishing the shallow works too
@@clubangler what did you do for live bait being to big, all the ones I was getting from the barge were atleast 6 inches and there were no small ones
