Let me introduce “the twenties”. "the twenties” is a Japanese rock band with a bombastic sound. The name of the song “天美我良” looks like a Chinese word because of the Chinese characters, but it is the Japanese pronunciation of “tell me why” with Japanese kanji. They are currently active mainly in Tokyo. They perform live frequently.

I'm old enough to remember when MTV pushed these guys as "the next Metallica" only to drop them after Infernal Love. (hell, just remembering when the M in MTV stood for Music should come with an achievement) Their Cleave album (2018) was probably some of the best they've ever released. Wreck it like Beckett, Callow, Kakistocracy ... honestly, some of the best Metal out there.

Scandal was my introduction to Japanese bands. Still my favorites! At nearly twenty years they can play just about anything, but at their core they're still a pop punk band. And still sounding fresh and fun! Definitely react to more Scandal!

Thank you for covering the smaller indie bands. I am a little familiar with Mukeikaku. Mana, the lead singer released a few singles as a solo artist before forming the band. This is a rebrand/redebut of one of my favourite bands growing up. They were called THE YERS and they did more emo/hard rock but last year they announced they were disbanding. With this redebut, they got a new lead singer and have shifted their genre quite a bit. There is actually plenty of Thai bands but it's just harder for international fans to find.

I think they’re brilliant and live they’re even better. Debut album from 2023 is Freak Scene and well worth playing through the whole thing - amazing for a debut imo (all 12 songs are infectious in their own way). The story of the band and how the two girls came together is worth looking into as well. All started as massive Strokes fans. Second album should be this year I believe.
