Civilization 5 - African Battle Royale Timelapse

DISCLAIMERS: Because I can only fit so much on the screen, not everything could be filmed. Some things had to go unnoticed. Near the end of the game, both of the AI's were too timid to DoW each other, so I had to force them to go to war with cheats. I actually have another timelapse of this I decided not to upload last second. The footage is very choppy and I didn't know what I was doing, so in...

Hilarious how you exaggerate the deepness of your voice
Just found your channel, so it seems im a bit late to the party, but I really enjoyed this mini series. I watched your tier list and thought it was really well-done!
Civ guy
I'll admit that I completely overlooked the Maya and their unique building. Their Mayan Long Count might be a tad overrated, but the Pyramid is ridiculously strong, especially when going wide. Ignoring the fact that it already produces double the faith of a regular shrine, the +2 science is actually insane in the early game. Combined with the Messenger of the Gods Pantheon (which the AI almost never picks), each city will be generating far more science in the early game than it would with a library. As an example, a newly-settled one-pop city will generate 5 science instead of just 1. This allows you to delay libraries at least until after markets/coliseums, which is great because early libraries are painful (and expensive) when going wide.
Messenger of the Gods is crap, it comes online too late
One game that we don't need excessive graphics. Just bigger map size while maintaining performance.
Love this video. Thanks for making!
Only a few issues imo. You undervalue external trade routes and over value internal routes. With your parameters of Emperor difficulty external routes get a way bigger bonus imo. Going wide and having gold can make up for lack of growth, and if you're behind in science trade routes get science. I do no tradition/liberty games on Immortal often, rarely use more than 1 internal trade route, and I'm almost always in tech lead by industrial age.
Were any nukes used?
Very very nice
In my opinion Morocco won because of inferior positioning and civilization traits compared to Zulu. I thought that Zulu would win. In my opinion the best starting positions are #1 Zulu #2 Songhai #3 Ethiopia. I was surprised that Songhai and Ethiopia did so badly and that Morocco and in the beginning Carthage did so well.
no bookmarks? lol
I feel like you underrated war civs here a bit. Mainly because I play this game like AI Montezuma, my favorite part is war. But nonetheless it should be noted. I think the civs that you said are strong are all genuinely that strong, but a few civs like Zulu should have been higher.
I'm playing Poland right now and it's really fun. It's my first game on Immortal and I'm on course to win. :)
Tbh shoshone is elite
Arabia 4/5 for military? What a joke
Its interesting to look at differences with vanilla for sure. In the greece section you mentioned tributing city states which I'm pretty sure isnt even a feature in vanilla lol
I know polynesia probably isn't good but the brain chemicals that trigger when I get hotels and airports on moai tiles goes brrrr
Quite possibly the best Civ 5 video of all time.
We miss you
We miss your videos.
Absolutely BASED Maya enjoyer
i still do
hehehehe, floating gardens🤣
You will be missed bro
Venice is literally intermatide form between city states and civs in this game :D
I actually love Venice
Amazing list. Sometimes though, Japan as the AI on immortal is crazy. Like i dont understand how it overpowered the English AND polish AI
Have to say I disagree with the decently high placement of Byzantium on the tier list. The unique ability is *theoretically* interesting, but with no bonuses to faith production, your likelihood of getting a religion at all on immortal/deity is pretty low unless you get desert folklore with a desert start, or settle a city near a faith producing natural wonder (Stonehenge is a joke to go for on deity). The unique unit Dromon is fairly insignificant for me, but that might just be because I play on Pangea, personally I only build naval units in the ancient era if I need to defend vs. barbs, and the trireme does decently enough for that. The Cataphract is decently stronger than the horseman (25%), but realistically it's nowhere near strong enough to justify rushing a neighbor with, so it ends up being a decent defensive unit at best. Overall, I find the civ's benefits do basically nothing for me unless I'm profoundly lucky, and they might as well be France or Japan (i.e. useless).
I'd like to say that the Indian Mugal Fort can be good when you couple it with autocracy and Neuschwanstein. I do that quite often, but maybe India is a better Freedom Civ because of the potential to grow to insane population levels comes with the freedom policies.
Someone come play this masterpiece with me right now
Wow I got five minutes into your four hour video and I hear "Archers are one of the worst units in the game" and I just cannot be more stumped at such a wild opinion. They are basically the best early unit to have by far. Their range and the fact that they dont take damage from attacking(outside dumb melee attacks) gives them both great offensive and defensive abilities if you're not an idiot. Basically, you can have them survive very easy, making them super viable to get promotions and then upgrade into composites w/said promotions when ready. They are also basically the only (intelligent) way to take a city in the beginning if you need to. Invaluable. If you dont have archers early on, you are also extremely vulnerable to other, smarter players/AI with archers.
poland is a trash you never find a horse
I remember being able to conquer the Aztecs in 1 turn as Demark in the medieval era, because I could set up and fire my trebuchets immediately after disembarking, before running in with a horseman to get the kill.
hey penguins. you might not see this, however, if you feel burned out on vanilal civ 5, i recommend you to try out mods. one of the few i would recommend are - Lekmod, Vox Populi, and the Sapiens mod. They can all be found on the civfanatics forum, and the Sapiens one can be found on steam. Cheers.
Egypt is my favorite civ
when we needed him most, he vanished
Nice video for viewing at work
"flexibility" would have been a good ranking to use great content 👍
P rank In Ultrakill, it means Perfect In Pizza Tower, it means Pizza In Civ 5, it means _Poland_
Great list very thorough agree with you on everything but polynesia. Culture win is almost guaranteed in late game with them going wide with focus on religion. Trust me once u got hotels and airports with your idealogy focusing on tourism only brazil can beat them for culture
Yeah, wide Polynesia with Liberty got me 1000+ culture per turn after radio tech (without Golden Age even). And it was big or maybe huge pangaea (10-12 AIs on Immortal). I was able to close 4 policies + full ideology and I think it's possible to get more. Even Poland can't do that. And that amount of culture into policies can have a huge impact on economy science and warfare. So I think it's underrated.
I mostly play domination so by that, Germany is my favorite civ. Especially 25% less maitanence for land units. Couple that with Autocracy with Nacionalism it's 33% more which makes in the end 58% less maitanence for land units. I also realy like their unique unit and building.
You should retitle this: The Last Civilization V Tier List You'll Ever Need. Great video. I only wish you could have made it 10 years ago when I still played Civ V a lot.
