Painting Eyes on the Sam’s One Bug

Quick video to show the process for painting eyes on foam popping bugs. While this is just my way of doing this there are many other options. I like the Ceramcoat products. They are consistent and easy to use and can be found at most art supply stores or on Amazon. #painting #foamfly #poppingbug #flytyingtutorial #craft #flytying #paintingeyes #luremaking #popperfly #bassonthefly #foampopperfly...

My dad, Craig “Sam” Blevins created this fly in the early 80s.It was designed to be a more durable popping bugs that could withstand the abuse from errant casts on rocks, or the destructive nature of smallmouth bass. Sam could fish with one bug all day and catch a complete variety of fish using this single fly. It quickly became his favorite warm water fly. This is a quick demonstration on addi...
Sam’s One Bug -A durable foam popping bug for fly fishing.

The Sam’s One Bug - Craig “Sam” Blevins created this simple foam popper in 1982 to be a more durable popping bug. The goal was to reduce the costly mistake of casting expensive custom painted poppers against the rocks. Those errant casts were not kind to balsa and cork style poppers and often would cause them to crack. A single successful day fishing would occasionally leave his prized balsa po...
Love the videos. Get well soon😊
Just stopping by/Sent From @theflysmith - Neat Fly! 😊👍🏻
Good stuff here brother!
Appreciate it!
Nice. I like that size bug. Is that a #6? You'll have to hold those sunfish in front of the camera a second longer so this coonazz can see what those purdy creek fish look like. Man, those bream are pretty aggressive there. Nice little clip, wish I was there instead of lunch at work.
Ha! I will remember that advice. My first attempt. 😂
Wade, what kind of razor blade are you using? Love this fly!!
Thanks…It’s a straight single edge blade for carpet cutters. You can find them at Home Depot.
This is such a clear and informative step-by-step process. Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge with the community.
Thank you for the positive feedback. :)
I would actually like to place an order for some of your lures and I don't know where to find them. Can you please send me a link or direct me on how I can place an order? Many thanks!!
Please see my Instagram page.
Appreciate your interest, but I have never Sold any of my flies. Its more about the story.
@@Samsonebug well then, can I buy the story...LOL? I would love to give these to a few of my neighbors
I appreciate you sharing this video 😃
Great instruction! This fly works, period.
Thank you! I love the top-water bite, and the Sam's One Bug has been my most productive pattern. I hope this highlights some of the steps a little better for tying.
What do you like for a blade?
I prefer most any straight razor replacement blade. The long blades are easier for me to handle and with the blade only on one side, I am less likely to cut myself.
Crappie love them too. Nice video, thanks.
Amazing the number of species that have been caught. Thanks. That is one I have yet to catch on a popper.
Nice tie!
Do you still make the beautiful little mouse patterns from deer hair? I have a box full of Hareline deer hair in just about any color you could imagine, it needs a new home, I know you will put it to good use and I'll never use it. Tell me where to send it if you can use it... free of charge.
Thanks send me an email samsonebug gmail.com
Hey Wade, just watched your interview the the storied outdoors. Great interview, very moving, sorry to hear about your dad, I'm sure he's still tying and fishing. You probably don't remember me, I had a locksmith business in Huntsville, Scottsboro and Fayetteville, TN. Gary Follansbee, You taught me a lot about fly tying and fly fishing on the Elk river, thank you very much for that great gift, still tying and fishing, I'm in Louisiana now, catching big crappie with these popper along with other patterns including Walts balsa poppers, I purchased the books from the fishing club. Nice video, thanks
Hey Gary! I certainly remember you. Hope all is well. Glad to hear you are still tying.
