A week on the River Tweed June 2022 during very low water conditions. Despite awful conditions will still managed a few fish by reverting to fine presentation using our single hand trout rods.

Love the video…..what line are you using 🤙🤙🤙
I caught my first ever salmon off the Garden Wall 26 years ago, Jim was the ghillie then I think... Love that view down to Kelso.. Will def go back sometime , I fish Lower North Wark nowadays.. Thanks for sharing
amazing - I think Jim retired the year before I first went to Floors - still plenty of photos of him in the hut!
never ceases to amaze me how many people cannot cast left handed. nice film though
thanks - I assume you can cast left handed?! Well done!
@@bentebbutt8316 yeah i can mate ,why can you not ?
@@bentebbutt8316 What a double spey was meant for, not a fan of casting left handed but do it when I need too
Great stuff!
That last one. Man, are they strong! We catch big browns here that size and larger, and they're a LOT easier to fight and land.
Great video! Forgive my ignorance. I'm a trout fly fisher from Georgia, USA. What type of line are you using? Intermediate sinking? Other? What about your leader? Fly fishing for Atlantic Salmon in Scotland is way up on my bucket list. Cheers from America.
its a spey line - floating but with either a 15 ft floating, intermediate or sink tip - leader normally 12-15lb dependent on conditions
Cracking video Ben. Looks like it was a great trip👍🏻
Nicely handled, some C/R clips are ghastly. Thanks for the beautiful videos !
Well done cracking fish.
Thanks 👍
Environment Agency 🙈🙉🙊 What pollution ? ??? I t Took the British public filming pollution and campaigning on social media , to embarrass the environment agency in to action , and admit there’s a problem with water companies. i fished all of those beats in the 80s and 90,s biggest salmon i had off those beats was 35lb the most salmon i caught in one session off those beats was 46 , best session i ever had on the wye was 122 salmon ,it was a great river back then .its knackerd now .
@@troywales983 amazing and very sad in equal measures!
@@bentebbutt8316 they where short sessions not seasons ,
Good fish. What is interesting is that I fished that beat in the 70s and 80s and the Pipes was hardly ever fished after April. Also the Island was usually fished from the island itself until the ranunculus put it out by late June. Is the large “boulder” still at the top of the Island on the left bank?
I don't think so - if it is its not something I've spotted. Suspect the beat was much better when you fished it!
It almost certainly was better. I only fished the Dukes and the furthest downstream we fished was the croy at the bottom of the Viaduct. I and a friend rented the bridge pool and the run out to about ⅓ down the island for several years. We were allowed two rods per day and there were two rods fishing the rest of the beat on the usual named day basis. We averaged 60 fish per season and the rest of beat averaged around 200. Wyesham was a separate beat and averaged around 275 but were allowed to worm whereas the Duke introduced a no bait rule and a 3 fish per day limit around 1980. Even Prince Charles had to stick to the 3 fish rule! In those days we started on 26th January and voluntarily stopped at the end of September.
@@paullking08 - wow! - lucky to get 3 in a season now!
Especially when you consider that being local we didn’t fish all day, we tended to fish for a couple of hours starting about 2 hours after high tide so we could go for the fresh fish coming in or in the evening when it became a social event with a couple of us sitting on a bench opposite the island taking the p*** out of the angler fishing. When the ranunculus put the island out every fish that went upstream of Monmouth had to pass through a gap of about 4 metres where the boulder I mentioned been dropped in to create a lie that produced 80% of our fish!
Excellent fish.Well done
Good scrap
Hi can you tell me what size of salmon rod that was thanks
Had the same result on tyne in last week, I did get a tiny Par 6 inches like a bar of silver, but otherwise, nowt!
Going fishing without a landing net is like going rally driving without brakes 🙄 not good and definitely wouldn't put it on UA-cam thats a total novice error tbh
Mind your business buddy
Rubbish, landing a fish on your own with a net can be harder than beaching it, take friend would be better advice!
Well done Ben. Good fishing and a great result!
Well done ben! Great fish and much deserved in those conditions!
Good work Ben it’s been a long spring on the lower river another dirty rise on the way this morning
Halo my friend,good job..👍
Great effort Ben. Cracking fish. Well deserved for the effort 👍👍
Cracking fish well done
That's actually a half deacent fish, good stuff:)
Nice vid mate😊
Any pointers on good beats on the Wye in Wales to try a few days in the summer. We travel to Wales each year from Scotland to the Welsh show so might take my rods this year.
Try Goodrich Court, some nice fly water.
@@bentebbutt8316 does it fish better with a bit of water?
No low water best
well done Ben.Well deserved
Great video Ben. I am already dreaming of my return to Iceland in July!
Hey enjoyed the video mate. I’m heading to the blanda mid June, any tips on flies / tactics? Seems like stripping was the go to method, curious what sort of setup you were running. Cheers !
Laxa k’Jos is a smaller river than the Blanda we fish with single handed trout rods as most of the fish are grilse - suspect you will need double handed rods. No doubt hitch flies and the usual selection of small doubles and trebles will work. I always have some small tungsten micro tubes which work well. I find in Iceland it pays to keep changing flies - it’s amazing what difference that makes, you often catch a fish first cast with a new fly! Enjoy it - amazing country
@@bentebbutt8316 appreciate the tips mate 👍 will do, looking forward to it immensely!
@@reggiemorgan6121 Blanda is completely different from Kjos. Heavy water and in mid-June expect to use double handed rod and big heavy tube flies like Snaelda or Frances. Good luck...
Ben, loved the content. I’m out at Laxa I Kjos on July, any advice?
@@amandacraddock5117 - yes enjoy it!
Nice Fighting fish! Is that a good beat to book on the Why? say around March or April?
Pretty river...like almost all Icelandic rivers...but lots of small fish in this river...Better fish Stora Laxa ,Vididalsa ,Hofsa or Sela ,for a chance of a decent fish (over 15lbs). Who knows that the officially recorded average weight in Iceland is only about 6lbs. I remember fishing YOKANGA (Russia)in the early century. Funnily ,on my second cast I hooked a 30lbsfish . Most unfortunately ,he was heavily bleeding and we could not revive him.On the way back in the helico ,no angler even looked at that fish...was nice...but nothing to speak of !! One year I fished the Varzuga (russia),and caught around 10 fish per day...all around 6lbs...never came back !! Among the years ,Icelandic prices became ridiculously expensive (say around 3000 gbp(or more) per rod per day for a top week on a Top river...definetely NOT worth it !! I was lucky enough to have fished (and deeply enjoyed) 23 different rivers there before it became completely crazy....But those who like grilse or tiny spring salmon can go there !!!
Great feedback- agreed Icelandic average 4 - 6lbs - great fun and amazing rivers but a 30lber !!
Nice looking stretches of river Ben, which beat is that your fishing if you dont mind me asking? Seen this stretch several times and fancy a few trips this year of possible. Fished the tweed for trout when a young lad as my Uncle lived on the stretch at Newtown St.Boswells, lovrly river. Tight lines for the season!
Lower Floors 👍
@@bentebbutt8316 Thanks
Tough luck on that fish. You gave it plenty of beans and it was sticking. Unbelievable it came off TBH
That’s what I thought! Can’t win them all.
The river runs clean above Upper floors but below at Kelso is now a nightmare 😢
Ha - bloody swans! Good fishing Ben on what looked like a tough week
I'd recommend giving Norway a visit for a week or so, might hook up on some proper good fish. Only downside is pricing i suppose, the "best" rivers are either crowded or expensive as hell. Personally spend 2-3 weeks every summer in a mediocre river with relatively "cheap" public fishing, landed 9 salmon and 13 seatrout in 2023 season. (obviously lost the biggest one, estimate it was somewhere around the 8-9kg mark, which is honestly pretty average size for June fish here).
Great video as per usual though, makes me look forward to June even more
I would love to! - only slight issue…. “ evening darling just off to Norway for 3 weeks!” 🤦♂️🤬🤣
@@bentebbutt8316 just take her with you😉 loads of amazing places for hiking and sightseeing etc if thats of interest to her.
What's the plans for this Season Ben ?
More of the same - Wye, Spey, Tweed and Iceland. Would be nice to try a few new venues also but perhaps that is too much to ask!
I'm a member of the PDAA I have a few guest passes per season, your more than welcome to one.@@bentebbutt8316
i've stood on that bridge at carron water watching big salmon under the bridge holding station, nice big doubles
What size of rods and make were you using thanks
Beautiful part of the country , excellent video , the awesome Spey , but like most rivers now , very few fish , living in the past , fisherman paying vast amounts not knowing they will be lucky to see or catch a salmon , we will probably never see any improvement of rising stock levels , my advice to Fisherman , think very hard before you part with your money , if you do , be prepared to put in vast amounts of effort , for very little reward . Happy new year to all fisherman , we can only hope things will get better
Really enjoy these ben
Great vid Ben. Well done on the catches 👍
Great Stuff Ben well done 👍
Well done Ben ! What's the set up your using ?
I bought a guideline 12’3” 6# double handed rod. It’s a joy to use in the summer.
Nice
beautiful fish ! Unbelievable the difference in the fight between a fresh fish and one that has been 'fasting' for a while. Well done !
Weather sun and heat seemed against us rather too much and too early this spring and summer ..but we are salmon anglers and so unicorn hunting is always better than not being out. Environment agency etc seriously needs to get a brain and conscience and lets hope salmo salar has a half decent spawning for the fish that will be looking at a Willie Gunn in 3 years time. 1 from Eden and 1 from Welsh Dee who fancied a careful Allys Shrimp Simon Artley
Epic day mate, despite the conditions. Such a gorgeous beat and nice to see a few fish show themselves. Let’s hope for better luck next spring!
Great video and i feel your pain. It's a hard slog these days.
Done very well having right flies help but I know the river and lys as past 40 years
