if you want more than 50M range, look into recoil tech. It basically uses the auto-aim gun's recoil to position a platform and use distance sensors to then transfer that to a craft
That is actually something I kinda thought about, I just tried to harvest the auto-aim itself by using 0 strength servos and a gun piston glitched between a few wedges wich never worked. If whatever I was onto could work then that would get rid of the need to shoot the gun
@@LunaticLacewing you need some strength on the servo to stop it from spinning out and a counterweight (usually just another gun for symmetry) on the other side
Could you do it on a bigger grid to get a more accurate result of said uav like pixels on a screen or is it another way to have a better detector for maybe distance and more specific location
Ive built a mulit crew tannk in tm with my friends lately. all feature a detailed inner view and theres a loader who has to spam space bar as fast as he can to load it depending on the tanks irl load speed

couldn't a simplified version of this (no spin, just facing forward ) be used on missiles to essentially track objects that are in range

Yes it could be used for missiles but since the sensors have limited short range, it isn't practical

It could get slightly more accurate but cannot determine range as it is too simple to do so
