Hey everyone, thank you to all who watched my last video where I demonstrated the AF on the X-H2S and the X-H2 post firmware downgrade. A viewer mentioned that I should do a before and after for the X-H2S so I decided to update my firmware back to version 7.00 to record a test video and then downgraded it back to version 1.03 to re record the video so you guys can see how bad firmware version 7...

I have lost confidence in Fuji over the years considering this was the camera brand that got me started in photography.
It's a shame, many people feel the same. It's the reason why I also own a canon R6 MKII.
XT5 is a wedding camera 📷 why Dial allows you yo quickly adjust light with pus minus dial easier I agree it's a massive step forward 👏 👍
No update for xs20.... Shame
This is still pretty bad. Fuji lost me to Canon simply because my R5II has insanely good autofocus. Yes it’s bigger and heavier, but damn you can count on it to work.
I’m sure Fuji doesn’t mind you going to Canon. They will keep selling thousands of cameras.
Not bad. Much better than what we’ve had. Not quite Sony level, but I can use my XH2S more confidently now. I’ve had so many issues last few months with hunting. This looks promising. Thanks for the test. Subbed
Can you do a photo test? Maybe show how it tracks eye AF?
nice one! hopefully soon get updates on x100vi.
amazing accuracy
I find this perfectly acceptable AF. I used a Sony FX3 and it hunted too.
Everyone is doing video based testing on 7.10. It would be good if people were also testing the keeper rates of stills taken with tracking AF.
Hi, Thanks. I would appreciaate you letting us know how you set the camera up.
Hey, the camera was set up on a tripod. I was recording in 6.2k opengate at 25fps. Shutter speed was 1/50s and I was filming in h.265 f-log 2C. ISO 1250 with an ND filter. Lens was set to f1.4. Autofocus was set to continuous and the custom settings were default at +2 & 0. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
@@sethiphotography Many thanks!
Hello, is vers. 7.1 better than vers. 1.0x? Thx!!!
Hey, I still think that version 1.03 is better than version 7.1. But version 7.1 is massively better than 7.0.
Very nice video and test. Greatly appreciate you taking the time. I’m excited to try this weekend w this new firmware on XH2 w the Viltrox 13 and 27mm. Also curious on how well slow motion may work. Cheers mate.
Glad it was helpful!
You will need to understand basic computers to understand the difference between Sony and Fuji. Sony users whines over no Firmwares, and Fuji over the AF. This is the difference between Hardwired IC and Software IC. Hardwired are fast but not upgradable. Software are slower but customizable to the needs of the product. This is like an old computer vs new computer. The more the computer are loaded with tons of task the slower it gets. With hardwired you cant really load it with lots of task since it only have one purposse. Fuji are great for experimetations for the photo artist. But for a workhorse with simple task Sony are better and faster. Just enjoy what you have and use it for it was designed for. But dont exspect Fuji to be a Sony or a Sony to a Fuji. That will never ever happens.
This footage looks horrible! Focus is jumping all over the place. Not too noticeable on the subject, but super noticeable in the background. I stopped watching after four minutes, so I don't know if he played with the settings to make any improvements, but this is bad. Fortunately, I don't upgrade firmware very often, so mine is still on 5.something. I'm just going to leave it right where it is unless they make some major improvements. Thanks for the video. This makes my decision to keep my current firmware much easier.
Is this satire? It looks amazing
@@Skaterman2413Nope he is right, watch the car.
It’s called moaning just for the sake of it.
Totally still messed up, not constantly to be pulsing, but jitter shifts. Whenever you raised your arms, but even when you aren't, it is there at 0:13, 0:15, 0:16, 0:20, 0:36, 0:38, 0:41, 0:42, 0:46, etc etc etc...watched the car. What a joke FUJI! I'm debating selling my Fuji XH2s and XH2 You might want to watch ua-cam.com/video/QmRhxM1tG14/v-deo.htmlsi=gxFLlyTbieoxdiIa He seems to have to working.
it was pulsing at the beginning, you can tell by looking at the car.
It looks like the update is decent. What lens did you use in this test shot?
18mm f/1.4
I downloaded the firmware for my XH2's and improvement is glaring!
in terms of what function ? Just AF c for video ??
It's better but it still steps quite badly and jittery at times. This gives me flashbacks to the 3.0 firmware on the X-T3, that was 5 years ago where initial tests looked promising and here we are, 5 years later with still performance inferior to 2018 Sony.
This looks way better, it’s fairly easy to understand the AF settings. If you have tracking sensitivity on 0 it’ll be way smoother and faster changing what it’s focusing on (this is good for things moving from far to closer to you). And as long as you have the subject being tracked it’ll be smooth and fast, but as soon as the camera loses the subject it’ll just immediately focus on whatever is in the box - it won’t wait to see if the subject comes back. In my experience higher sensitivity setting is good when you have an erratic subject and it’s going in and out of the same plane of focus (like a bird moving parallel across a branch, or flying on and off a branch). It stays locked on to that subject for longer in one plane of focus instead of immediately looking for a new subject - this would be a nightmare when shooting wildlife because there’s a million things to focus on.
can you a video por stills? I'd like to know how accurate it is nailing a model eye when she is moving or looking sided to the camera
Did you update the XH2 though? Or not worth it. I'm still on original un-updated version. I'm to scared to mess with it..lol
I’m on 2.01 and I’m worried about upgrading 😂 I want to make sure stills AF isn’t borked again like it was with the “AI” updates
It's better, just did it. Autofocus was inexsitent in previous 5.0 update. 5.1 is much better, seems usable now. I am very excited...
@ good to know, yeah the previous updates were terrible. I won’t update until I know it’s at least as good as firmware 2.01, I’ve been happy with that firmware - I shoot birds and wildlife mainly. Got some awesome photos of owls in snow this week, and I’m waiting for the 500mm f5.6 - maybe I’ll have to upgrade firmware to use that lens 🤔
@@Mr7Poz WOW 👌🏽
@@losmalqueridos2009 I am still testing, It's actually usable with old 23mm 1.4. Big Surprise, it seems to work better in single point mode though....
can you try please with other settings for focus speed and sensitivity ?
hey! sure, I can upload a short video in the next couple days. Subscribe and click the bell icon so you know when it's live. Thanks for watching :)
I am only an enthusiast, it seems more than good enough for my needs. A way to possibly limit the breathing that you see might be to dial to f2 as the breathing seems to be related to small back/forward movements. I am using X-T3, and I feel that Fuji should update even on the old bodies, at least for photography and the latest for video. Why, because they would not loose clients who may delay their body upgrade as IBIS and denser sensors are sufficient good reasons to upgrade. On the GFX front, if the 50S ii was to also get the photography autofocus upgrade would be a welcome upgrade which would promote lenses investments (and therefore brand loyalty).
I find the Xh2, better than Xt3 after update...still experimenting though...Xt3 is passable, but a little rough.
No, I'm not.
Uh, $1600 USD is not a "beginner" camera.
How about the XT5?
X-T5 should also be getting an update but will probably be later.
Interesting to see your pics and review of the Sigma 50f1.4 and the Mitakon 65f1.4 towards the end. I recently purchased a 100s with the GF35-70. I got the Fringer adapter to mount the EF40f2.8, but I really like the standard (50mm FF equivalent) focal length. So my question is if you have to choose one lens to be that standard lens, would it be the Sigma or the Mitakon, or something else?
Hey, if I had to choose, I think it would be the Mitakon as it really does give you that medium format look.
@@sethiphotography Thanks. I just placed an order for the Mitakon while on Holiday24 sale (15% off). Looking forward to this special lens.
paying $1600+ to get into a hobby? I got bills to pay
Yeah, it's so damn perfect you can't even order it since about 6 months... :)
I'm going to a Fujifilm Check & Clean day here in NYC this week. Hoping the new firmware will be available then.
I’m on X-T3 with 23 f1.4 WR and 2 zooms 16-80 and 70-300… I’ve delayed an upgrade to either GFX 50s II with a 35mm equivalent or the X100vi… I’m resisting the GAS and enjoy shooting for now… But it is tempting… on the other side it wonät provide massive difference… Apart IBIS and not have to have a tripod in some scenarios…
the x100VI is an upgrade as far as the new 40megapixel sensor, this is something you will notice in your images and is by far the biggest reason to upgrade, the ibis is also great for low light and is also noticeable when coming from a camera with no IBIS. All this said, I don't think the move from the X-T3 will improve your photography. The shooting experience is vastly different and will allow you to explore a different style of shooting especially when you use the OVF replicating a rangefinder style of photography.
already have an amazing set, you are not missing out on anything
Nice one!
Thank you!
Kind of disappointed in the 50Sii, but I'm going to give it more time, and I'll wait until I've put a converted 645 lens on it.
Hey, yea the 50sii has the older sensor so doesn’t perform as well as the 100mpx sensor. The 100s is cheaper to buy now and is a worthy upgrade if your ever in the market for one.
@@sethiphotography I really only just got the 50Sii, so I'll wait a while and maybe pick up the 100Sii in a couple of years if MF still interests me. I have a lot to try and test with the 50Sii in the meantime, and thanks for posting useful and helpful videos.
No you don’t, because that damn side hinged, flippy, flappy, take forever, obtrusive, conspicuous rear screen is rubbish.
Love how people always feel the need to call their setup a Leica Q3 to get clicks. I am sure it is a great setup - sell it for what it is... not what you wish it was. I get torn between my Sony A7R3 and the 35mm F1.8 vs the 28mm Leica Q3. In the end the difference is not the image quality. The main difference is the shooting experience. The Sony - encourages me to use technology to get the shot (because there are so many settings I can change quickly via buttons), where-as I find the Leica puts me in a very focused shooting mode (more like my Nikon FA with the 28mm F2.8). It slows you down, brings you back to basics, makes the experience special, encourages you to shoot more, and inspires creativity. I will stress... It's not about image quality... it's about getting compelling images. Looking at the XH2 and that 27mm F1.2 it's going to more like my Sony experience. The simple things like the grip, where the viewfinder is, where you change shutter speed, the fact that the screen flips out rather than tilts, the lack of focus tab, the much longer manual focus throw, no simulated focal lengths that allow you to use like a range finder, not having a macro mode etc. It's going to be a very different experience to the Leica Q3. You can still love it though (like I love that Sony setup). If you want to want to get an idea of what it is like - go pick up a Nikon FA (or any other film camera that has a good light meter) and go shoot some rolls - start looking at how many keepers you get and how you get more compelling compositions.
What a strange obsession to slag off Leica products. Your comparison doesn’t work at all.
Considering that it is my only video on the topic, I would hardly call it an obsession, maybe you didn't watch the entire video but I talked about the pros and cons of both and how I would also like to use a Leica camera. The video is more about the price difference and how the Fuji set up is a great alternative for those on a budget ;)
I’d rather have the 18 1.4 Fuji lens. Quality is unmatched! I do own the 18mm. XT5. The real reason most people like Fuji is the film simulations.
Correct, the 18mm f1.4 is an incredible lens.
Comparing anything to a Leica just feels like a non-starter. it's a luxury product first a foremost. I tried the Q3 - not the 43, the original 28mm version, and I was very impressed. I think I would opt to get the 43 if I really had to get one, but I still prefer the size and approachability of my X100V. The Q3 felt as big as my XH2 with the 33mm f1.4 on it, and it felt like it attracted attention being this big black camera in the same way as my XH2. My X100V and X100VI have been with me on so many trips and it just hides away as an unassuming "film" camera when it's around my neck. Love it.
Yes the Q cameras are not small or lightweight, but they sure do feel good in the hand. I have to say that I love my X-H2 and how it grips in my hand.
@ yeah I much prefer the XH2 ergonomics, the grip is so good
The Viltrox 13mm f1.4, 27mm f1.2 and 75mm f1.2 are some of the best lenses you can get for the Fuji X mount, if Fuji had made them they would be 2-3 times more expensive.
@@sethiphotography I had this exact set up with xh2s but I sold it for canon. I still have my xt3 and f2 primes but.. I miss my viltrox+xh2s setup..... The idea was that I wanted to keep my fuji kit small and light. VIltrox and xh2s isn't that small/light. So I thought might as well go full frame for heavier stuff like travel, and wedding. and keep my fuji as everyday candid stuff. Although canon is great, fuji is so fun and appealing.
@@JtheKproduction yea I am the same to be honest, I have Fuji for fun and use canon for pro work. This being said, the X-H2 is definately worthy of pro work and I often use it as a second body with a prime kens on. But it is also my travel/holiday camera.
As a Fuji fan, I mean the whole point of leica q3 is being compact hehe
Agreed, but I don't think it is, after handling one, It certainly felt quite chunky but premium.
@@catbread2585 Q3 is definitely not compact
hahaha… right! 😁
I pair Viltrox 27 f1.2 with Fuji XT4 for almost every work.. it's a great lens! I will make a video about it too.. thank you for sharing man.. Love your work..
Thank you, I’m glad you found it informative
I tried the Viltrox, but it was too heavy, for me, to use as an everyday carry solution with an X-T or X-H body. However, the Fujifilm XF 30mm macro (45mm equivalent) or XF 27mm pancake (40mm equivalent) work well for me unless I need something for low light environments or outdoor portraits.
i've not tried the 30mm yet, might check that one out.
No, you don't get that because of distortion and compression, you don't get the compact size, the better sensor, the better evf, the better build quality, the APO lens, the better looking design ( yes it's subjective but i think that most people would say that). Even the phone app is better, the wifi connectivity is better. I am so getting tired of weird comparisons and frankly... deceiving videos like this one. No, you won't get even close to the leica with that setup. Is it a bad setup? No! Is it leica level? No!
Nothing deceiving in the video, It’s all facts about a budget option for those that can’t afford £6k. I mention the Leica build quality and specs. No one is judging you for spending £6k on a camera. There are plenty of other videos for fan boys ;)
hahaha right on!!!
I was waiting for someone to make this video. Thank you for your efforts. Love your work.
Thank you, I’m glad you found it informative
Yes brand new update to make it worse than the previous update 😂
People in the UK seem to pay more for used camera gear than we in North America pay for new gear.
Because the US is a bigger market
@@E3Zombie Canadian prices are cheaper than the UK as well.
In Germany, the XH2 costs 1944€, a Sony A7 IV 1899€. Sonys AF is years ahead of Fujifilm, the lens lineup is much broader, while Fujifilm has much too many old and outdated noisy and slow focusing lenses. Since the 18/23/33 mm were released, there wasn't a single new relevant new prime lens or an update to the very old lenses, the 16-55/2.8 being the only exception (after 10 years...). Fujifilm has to change its pricing policy. Sold my XH2 and half a dozen of lenses (including the 18/23/33 mm f1.4). The 18mm is still a great option, as the depth of field of a 18mm helps avoiding so many false positive eye AF results. Very different with the 50/1.0. Fujifilm doesn't have a single fast and silent focusing fast portrait lens in the range 40-80mm. Not a great choice if someone is shooting a lot of portraits (in a silent environment). The 50-140mm is over ten years old. They simply crippled their R&D department to optimise profitability. Very short sighted.
Whilst I agree with most of what you have said. Autofocus speed and fast lenses are not and should not be a replacement for colour science. I'm sure you would agree that most people will appreciate the look and feel of an image and how fast a lens or camera acquires focus probably does not form part of any appraisal of an image. I am sure there are times where fast AF is important, sport and wild life perhaps but for the beginner and average user, this is probably irrelevant.
@@sethiphotography I'll take beautiful SOOC pictures over marginally faster autofocus every day of the week
@@PlaybackMansionIt's not about the speed, it's reliability in general. This is a pro body and pros don't care about nice SOOC jpegs. They need a reliable autofocus so that they can deliver a product. I'm not a pro and I prefer an AF that works as well. Nice looking recipe doesn't warm me much if the subject is out of focus.
It doesn’t matter how good a camera is if you don’t pick it up and enjoy shooting with it. I own both system and I never use my Sony's outside of client work
