    If the ride is really harsh over bumps , check that the front strut mount or mounts have not degraded / cracked. Australia's speed limits are just too slow for this car.

    I've had my C55 for 4 yrs, and initially I felt the suspension was quite harsh and "crashy" but then I discovered my engine and trans mounts were shot - new ones transformed the car, very smooth and firmish - certainly not hard. If I could change anything, I'd have a quicker steering rack with more feel, and add an extra cog or 2 in the transmission, as the gears are just too long. Other than that I love it - no rattles and the interior is immaculate for a 20yr old car that has had 8 owners. Whilst they are reliable, things do go wrong, and in in order to keep them maintained, you do have to commit to spending money on them. Wife hates it, but I just can't part with it....ha ha

      My engine and transmission mounts have been done but I do live in the area of Australia with some of the worst roads. (Not just the usual ‘our roads are crap’ we have really terrible roads) I have found not much actually goes wrong with it but god damn parts are expensive… and hard to find in aus. But I will not be selling to any time soon. Even if the gears are waay too long haha.

    Tesla does take some unconventional approaches to car design, but it's nowhere near the level of Mercedes in its prime. What Mercedes introduced soon became standard for all cars of all manufacturers: programmable crumple zones, ABS, ESP, airbags, parking radars etc. Btw Mercedes was the first to certify Level 3 Autopilot, not Tesla. Tesla engineers do cool things, but that doesn't make Tesla the new Mercedes anyway

    When I was driving through Germany, the average speed on a busy day was about 120-130 km/h. Everyone kept their distance and the difference between the right lane's average speed and the left one wasn't significant, which made changing lanes easy. Only in the evening when the highway was nearly empty I was passed by a BMW going over 250km/h while I was cruising 180km/h in the rightmost lane lol.

  • @mcfly19264
    @mcfly19264 5 місяців тому

    I happen to live in Germany and just got my drivers license today. I just wanted to add, that it's not like you can drive incredibly fast on the Autobahn, facing no consequences. If you crash at a speed of more than 130 kph, you have to prove, the accident also would have happened if you were driving slower. Even then they might say it was your fault as well, because of your inappropriate speed. I also wanted to add, that 2500€ is quite average for a drivers license. Each time you fail the practical exam, you have to pay about 450€ to 500€,if you want to try again, which happens to every second German driver on average (according to my driving instructor). But if you will ever get your license withdrawn by the police it will cost a fortune to get it back. It depends on the case but if you get caught driving drunk for example, you might need a psychological report in order to get your license back.

    Simply look at the fuel recommendations in the owners manual. Don't have an owners manual? Get one! Only use premium fuel if the manufacturer recommends it. It's typically required with high output engines, which can include a lot of non-sports car models. In New Mexico, it's common to see 86 octane fuel, which I hate. The owners manual says to use 87, which forces me to use mid-grade. I saw in a forum that 86 octane is sometimes used at higher elevations, where it is OK to use. Well, I live at 6,000 feet in AZ and we have nothing lower than 87 around here. I can't bring myself to use 86. Besides, what if I fill up with 86 in the mountains and then drive to a lower elevation? Nope, not worth it to me.

I wouldn’t put it in my C55 because it’s not driven often and from my understanding ethanol goes off quite quickly. Hooray, finally we hear from someone who knows what he is talking about when it come to "OCTANE", and thankyou mate. I learnt about it with the RR Merlin engine that throughout WWII continually increased the horse power by increasing the compression with supercharging. I think this is when 100 octane came about. As the boost continued to rise, so did the octane. By the end of the war the Merlin was running on 150 Octane (please feel free to correct me, I'm only going by memory here). Having said all that I did use 95 & 98 in a fuel injected vehicle in the late 1990s because 91 at the time was full of crap that blocked injectors and baskets (here in Aus atleast). These days I only drive a 1996 Commadore and it only drinks 91. I also use a 1944 truck with a 202 holden conversion. The old Red Motor hates 91, it was built to run on Super petrol back in the day which is about 95 to 98 octane. The only fuel it really likes is 100 octane Avgas, just saying.

    The only time you should be using 98 (or anything rated higher than that) is when the manufacturer calls for it. From personal experience, I wouldn't recommend "cheaping out" on engines that call for 98 but *can* be run on 95 per the manufacturer - you'll get slightly worse gas-mileage and less power. And anything higher than 98 is usually a waste of money. Unless the engine is specifically tuned to run on V-Power/Ultimate/whatever - IIRC some higher-end Porsches came set up like that from the factory and some tuned cars might be set up for higher rated fuels than 98 octane. But these cases are rare indeed and folks who own a car like that will probably know.

      You’re exactly right, a vast majority of cars run on 91 and can’t take advantage of a higher octane rating!

    If you have to use a socket wrench on the tension roller, loosen the top engine mount to drop the engine slightly to get the socket wrench on. It is a lot more work, and helps to have a jack under the engine! Will be making my own special bar once my welder gets here!
