Our neighbor just gave us one of these out of the blue, it was fairly elementary to figure out straight from the box but I searched UA-cam anyway to make double sure that it was ready to go and your video was the only one that even remotely explained anything about it in any type of detail whatsoever sooo.. Thank you for that! Now to see if our dogs will even have anything to do with it since the reason he gave it to us in the first place was that his dog was scared of it 😆

Thanks! My water flow was very weak and now it is back to normal after cleaning the pump. I also was noticing the front reservoir level rising too high as you mention. A general cleaning would always solve the problem for a while but I never knew why it was actually happening. Nice to know it's that little pre-filter. Very helpful!

I have a newer version. Actually I have 2. One has a light in the back n the other doesn't. They are an exceptional product and my cats love the fountains!! I highly recommend the drinkwell platinum fountains for your cats and or dogs. Definitely keeps them hydrated and you don't have to worry about cleaning a water bowl daily!! I clean my fountains anywhere from a week to 2 weeks. This is a great investment. I bought both of mine from Petsmart.

Is a filter necessary with ceramic or stainless steel since they are non porous ?

Change the water every week while doing that rub everything with water oh if you hear a bit of sound once a day or every 2 may have to refill a little bit

Thanks so much for the video! My teenager cleaned it out and I couldn't figure out why it wasn't working when we put it back together. I had never taken out the spinning thing inside the motor. After watching your video, I knew what I was looking for and found it stuck to the side of the dish drying rack. That's a strong magnet! lol

Late to the party, but excellent video review. We have the Premium and it works awesome. We bought it 5 1/2 years ago and it has been running non stop since. We have 4 cats and have to fill it every few days to a week depending if they drink from the water bowl on the back porch. I will say, when we first got it, we were amazed at how much more water the cats drank. We felt a little guilty that we may have been getting them enough water before buying this. Every month or so we put it in the dishwasher and hand wash the pump. It comes apart very easy for cleaning.

I've had my Pet fountain for a year, but have water running over from the front bowl area & I cleaned the hair catcher, but STILL outstanding issues & with Christmas being around the corner, I can not afford to have to already buy a new one & not sure where my papers are, can't find them, as I believe the warranty was for 2 years... Anyone else have any issues & what did you do to make this stop running over please? Thank you I do not use bleach as I've read that some people have/is, but found that vinegar & water & let it run through, then dump all after 2-6 hours of running through, then rinse well in hot water, & take the pump all apart & clean properly (As not mentioned here.) with Q Tip/pipe cleaners etc.! Then use the scrub brushes & clean all & 1 time a month, goes in the dish washer, but not the pump! It is also important to get cleaned properly, as I'm sure we all may know... Just want the animals safe is all with no bleach... Take care & cheers to good health for our fur babies & in hopes for some less Vet bills, enjoy...

This thing is an algae magnet, and it's next to impossible to properly rinse the transparent plastic holder due to bad design, unless you straight up soak it in vinegar+water. I recommend getting a model easier to disassemble and/or stainless steel for ease of cleaning.

brilliant, I watched this a couple of years ago, and learnt properly how to maintain my machine, and once again this time had trouble getting it to work after dismantaling it, so really appreciate this video showing me how to assemble properly= probably added years to its life

I find that I have to take the resevoir and soak it with effervescent tablets to get all of the algae out of the corners that are at the bottom, and in the water all the time. I also use filtered water to fill the fountain with. It has kept my female cat from needing her anal glands expressed by the vet for over a year now due to more water intake! My male has less UTI issues now too due to more water intake. I also do a quick wipe of the bowl to get debris out, clean that little bit that catches hair going into the back chamber and then actually break it down and scrub it once every 3-4 weeks. This seems fine and no excess build up of grossness. You just have to remember to wipe around the bowl and clean that piece once a week, unless your animals routinely drop food in it, then I would do it once a week.

At the beginning of the video you mention that some pieces can go in the dishwasher, but you never say which parts.

oak415 is 100% wrong. This DOES NOT tip over - it's nearly impossible for the cat to move, let alone tip over. The water in the pool keeps it extremely bottom heavy. This is an excellent product and both my cats LOVE it !

Just found your video. You didn't take the motor down as far as is possible. I've found that the little magnetic propeller gets a significant buildup of scum and algae down inside its housing. I take the little secondary cover off and the propeller out and use q-tips to clean the rest of the motor out. Then I set it up in the sink with a little vinegar water and fun the pump to thoroughly clean and sanitize all crevices without resorting to bleach or any other harsh chemical.

I have used the big dog for several years and love the size. However, it is impossible to clean after a few years since it is plastic. My big dog loves it, it is easy to drink from and my cat uses it also but after 4 years we are getting rid of it because we can't clean it no matter what we do. I would buy another in a heart beat if it was steel or ceramic.

I broke Salt's first fountain taking the pump out wrong. If I didn't find your video, I'd would have had to buy a 2nd. Drinkwell should reference your video on the box.The instructions are confusing. Thank you.
