I was at the Gathering that year. I forget who I rode with. Nickajack Lake and the Tennessee River all the way up to Chattanooga is, in my opinion, one of the best waterways in the nation. ...certainly in Tennessee or North Georgia. I'm pretty sure that the camera boat is Paul Kane's Hot Rod. You can really hear the V-drive whine.

hello, i know this video has been up a few years but I was wondering if you ever clocked the top speed of that boat. I acquired a 35hp Evinrude and am now considering building a boat. i am looking for 30+mph and i like the look and size of the flying saucer but if its too slow I might have to consider a flat bottom/aluminum boat. thanks

I myself have taken several rides in this boat. This year was the first time I've ridden in it since Paul installed the trim plates typical of so many V-drive boats. Every year and at ever Gathering, this boat just keeps getting better and better.

@michaelpilot1000 If you look closely, you'll see that the girls are wearing their PFD's. As for the adult, he should know better, but I think he can handle any emergency situations which may arise, They're boating in a protected area, about 10 feet from a dock with 50 or 60 people in the general area.

This was shot with the Canon EOS Rebel T1i DSLR camera which was designed as a digital still camera, so getting really good video footage is difficult with it. This Christmas, we got a dedicated video camera, aka camcorder: the Canon VIXIA HF S200, so next year we should have some better videos!

@wrroffey At the time we shot the video, we didn't have a torque tube cover and the engine was on break-in so we didn't spin it more than 5000 RPM. With 12% overdrive and a cupped 12 x 15p 3 blade Nibral prop we registered 30 MPH @ 2000 RPM, 41 MPH @ 3000 RPM, 50 MPH @ 4000 RPM. WOT unknown. Speeds are Livorsi GPS, We'll have some fresh data as soon as we relaunch at the end of August.

@slipperymeat Really rough that day and we got swamped by some rather large wakes from bigger boats. Having a deck would have helped ! The bilge pump housing had a crack in it's housing so it couldn't pump that well. About the only issue we had that day. We've replaced the pump since then !

@DieselMechanic09 Glad you enjoyed that ! When we first got the engine, the compression was in the 45 to 100 lb. range and it was on the wrong reverse-rotation firing order. It's still happily powering a Glen-L Monaco !
