Be Heeled Dog Training
Приєднався 23 сер 2017
Be Heeled Dog Training specializes in dog training for the entire family. We implement lifestyle training, in which daily protocols are put in place during everyday life, helping owners to establish leadership with their dogs. Dogs are trained to follow obedience commands in a wide variety of environments and with various distractions, and to appropriately interact with people, children, and other dogs. We also provide behavior modification to stop unwanted behaviors such as jumping on people, leash reactivity and pulling, guarding, chewing, counter surfing, etc. We take a balanced training approach, using both "yes" and "no" to communicate with the dog. Located just outside of Louisville, Kentucky, we offer Board & Trains, Private Instruction, and Boarding. Check us out on our website for more information, and follow us on Facebook and Instagram for daily updates.
Also makes regular trips to the Greenville, South Carolina area.

Wednesday Wake-up Call: You can say “no” to someone petting your dog
Wednesday Wake-up call: you can say NO when someone asks to pet your dog! (And especially if they don’t ask and just reach to pet.) Even if you are out in public with your dog, you absolutely have the power to say no…set your boundaries! If you have been struggling with problem behaviors with your dog, and you know that someone petting them will just jazz them up, say no! If your dog is showing signs that they aren’t comfortable, protect their space!
-
And if anybody tries to challenge this, swears up and down that all dogs love them, or pouts because they have to bypass your fluffy pup who’s straining to get to them, don’t worry about it! Anybody else’s opinion or butthurt is their own problem, not yours. You do you and what is best for YOU and YOUR DOG. Don’t worry about anybody else’s feelings! You don’t have to be rude about it, but you also shouldn’t defensive or ashamed. Nobody is entitled to your dog but you!

Wednesday Wakeup Call: Don’t be afraid of the mess!

Dog training ain’t always pretty guys, but just remember that the tough and messy parts are important to work through rather than shy away from. You’re working towards an amazing end result, but you’ve got to do the work to get there. Put your muck boots on and get in there!

As an owner, it can be easy to forget that if we aren’t reinforcing our basic training on a daily basis, when everything is normal and calm, we won’t have success in the more distracting and chaotic times when we need great behavior the most! YOU have to get into a solid, regular routine and have expectations for your dog every day if you plan on having expectations for them when they are hyped...
Dog ignoring dropped food
Переглядів 3683 роки тому
Eddie, the dog in this video, has done a ton of impulse control work while here for his board and train...and my son, Owen, is always happy to put that training to the test. 😂 Eddie is HIGHLY food-driven, but he knows and respects the boundaries that we have placed. In the first clip, Owen fumbles the food dish, scattering kibble all over the crate...and Eddie makes zero move towards any of the...
Off leash and impulse control exercises with Carter
Переглядів 7573 роки тому
Doing some off-leash and impulse control work here with Carter. Carter came in not quite 3 weeks prior, and was completely out of control pulling so hard on the leash that he was constantly wheezing/choking, highly reactive to anything he saw, completely unable to focus around distractions, and chock full of anxiety. This guy came such a long way in his 3 weeks here, and it was so fun and rewar...
Kenneling 4 dogs for mealtime
Переглядів 2093 роки тому
When you take a little time to teach things like crating protocols and calm manners, and then you reinforce it daily and establish a basic routine, life in general becomes so easy! Kenneling these 4 dogs for breakfast is a total non-event, even though everyone is excited for breakfast and definitely ready to eat. Being excited about something is no excuse for going completely crazy, and that li...

Teaching Carter Place command
Переглядів 7784 роки тому
Carter, the highly anxious GSD, learning Place command early on in his board and train. Place command is one of the most important things we teach all dogs, and it will be especially important for Carter. He has struggled with anxiety around his owner's new baby and was constantly running around the house and trying to investigate the baby. Now, he will spend time hanging out on Place whenever ...

Are you using the same clasp to attach the prong collar to the flat collar? He gets very reactive when he see's another dog. My dog doesn't look at me when he see's another dog. Should I use more pressure on the collar? he is a 3 yr, old corgi. thank you
I'm reading this 6yrs after it was posted...😅 So helpful and relevant. I've just introduced my dog to the Prong Collar and duing tutorials before I use it. Thanks for the training ..
My dogs breaks out of wire crate and also metal crate. I have no idea what to do now
Thznk you for sharing my.friends partner sent this to me. I recently got a prong collar and I am watching this video to help understand the training better. I am much more confident with this prong collar.
7:16 this "not sniff the ground" never occurred to me 😮. As my dog keeps mostly a loose leash, though he checks the ground often.
My dog is people and dog reactive and is an aggressive lunger. Will a prong collar hurt him if he sees a dog or person and lunges aggressively with a prong collar.
Good vlog, lil girl did a good job 👍
You should lead the dog not the dog you, It's only a question of energy.
It sucks at Walmart doesn't have good expensive but not expensive kennels that dogs can't break out of so we have to reinforce them come on...
I realize this is an old video, and I am not the type to usually comment, but I just had to leave a note here for those that might find this video in the future. This was unbelievably helpful to me in learning how to properly use the prong collar. I have a 6-month-old, 50 lb. Doberman puppy that was literally dragging my 105 lbs self wherever he wanted to go. He would walk with me fine and then all of sudden see something or decide he wanted to sniff and then it was a battle to get him to come with me. After watching this video, I found a properly fitting prong collar and did exactly what she was showing in the video. I could not believe the transformation! My puppy was walking right by my side with just small light pops on the collar. We went the whole walk without any battles. I will say, for this first walk with the prong, I did use many small corrections to keep him in position, just as discussed in the video. Now, instead of dreading our walks, I am looking forward to progressing in our ability to heel and focus. I will add that it is important to invest in a good quality prong collar because they are NOT all the same! Herm Springer is one I know that is good, but I'm sure there are probably others. Just don't buy some generic knock off, you may not get the same results because of the way the prongs lay, if they are pointy or smooth, etc.
I have 2 heeler x border Collie crosses, both are 30+ lbs. 60 pounds of determined pulling can hurt this old lady so i gave the Herm Sprenger prong collars a try. What a difference! Its like power steering vs manual steering, allows me to have a much lighter hand on the leash. I like to imagine it like having a light touch on a horse's reins
i noticed u didnt use any verbal commands. would i benefit from using words like heel, leave it or whatever? many thanks and much respect
You are fitting the collar further down on the neck. Is that preferable to under the chin?
I’m going to tries I hope it works because my dogs is not focused on me when I take her will it still work
This may be a stupid question, but I've seen some videos where trainers let the dogs smell their surroundings while on a walk, why do you have a no sniffing rule? Is it a trainer preference thing? Just curious. I just bought a herm springer today and I'm excited to start training with my Shiba on it. She's such a good dog- until we get outside on walks. She nearly pulls my shoulder out of its socket. But only on the first half of the walk - pull pull pull. Then, when we turn back the remaining walk towards home she's a totally different dog. No pulling, loose leash... WTF? You think she's sad, or unhappy that she's heading home, and that's why... But nope! She's as happy as when she started, with the same exact disposition, smiling face with her tongue bouncing in & out of her mouth. Just a happy dog. So now I'm hoping the first part of her walks will be just as enjoyable.
The only reason I am finally able to walk my German shepherd/Texas Heeler mix is because of the prong collar. I tried everything else... nothing worked and now my pup doesn't sound like he's hoarse after his walks. Definitely safer!
Absolutely the best video I've come across on leash walking. Love it, Thank you for such great information!
This is the first video I have seen that does not use food! My dog could care less about food on walks so I find this very encouraging! I recently purchased a prong collar and am researching the first steps before I put it to use.
It's a self learning signal collar, and its a den not a crate or..
Poor sound quality. I can barely hear your instruction with the volume turned all the way up.
There are not many women like this left. kind, respectful, lovely, very little makeup or orange war paint. Free off tattooed eyebrows and the latest fashion cloths, etc. A great smile, a feminine body, and confident knowledge. Just great. I teach dogs to walk without the Herm in most situations. It only comes out for dogs who need the next level. bob on.
How tight should you have the prong collar on?
7:32 question do you need to do the collar training of any kind before doing this or can it be like the first time use of the collar?
Can you please share the prong collar you recommend. I just bout a herm and sprenger one. It ha s metal clip too easier to put on but ..
“Corrected” = shocked. Let’s call it what it is.
That prong collar is too loose for that dog
I don't use them for every dog, or even for most dogs. But when I do, I actually put one on myself and let owners correct me with it, so they can see that it doesn't hurt and isn't meant to hurt. The problem is that there are a lot of people who don't have correct timing or pressure, so it's not a tool for everyone. I look at them like a surgeon's scalpel: it's a specialized tool designed to help when all other options are ineffective. But, just like a scalpel, you have to be trained how to use it properly, otherwise you can hurt someone accidentally.
Most people put on pinch collars incorrectly, so they don't work correctly and that's why they don't like them. Once again it's the owner not the dog.
Thank you do you have a brand recommendation I have a malamute that’s a big dog about 70 lbs at 5 months
I have 2 dogs one is just barley a year old and the other is 8 months old. Both pull like crazy on a leash and we walk them everyday and have tried everything but a prong collar. I finally broke and bought one for my 8 month old dog because he is way bigger and stronger than my other dog. I'm watching videos to learn how to use it and now I'm worried about trying to train while my other dog is around (they feed off each others energy). Do you think I should just practice at first in my back yard before I take them both on a walk?
Great video! Thanks
Prong collars are a bliss.
great video but may I ask, why do you not let your dog sniff the ground? I have a 1 yr old lab and it's in their nature to sniff and explore. what's the harm in letting them sniff? doesn't sniffing also stimulates their brain? thanks.
Great instructional video. Am waiting for my Herm Sprenger collar to arrive from Amazon. Can't wait to use the techniques learned from this video on my Pit-mix. She pulls like a freight train, and only weighs 65 pounds... My only suggestion for making this video even better is for the young lady to show off her smoking hot figure by wearing a micro bikini and high heels during the presentation...
I had a German Shepherd/Akita mix, and when I got him, he was a big time puller. I got him a Sprenger pinch collar, and within about 2 weeks, he never pulled again, and I was able to use a slip lead for the rest of his life, which unfortunately ended after 12 great years together a few weeks ago.
Is it too early to add the prong collar into my training for my 4 month old lab? She's very high energy and I'm having a hard time reinforcing positive behavior on the leash.
This is the perfect time to start! We generally start with the prong around 3-4 months old
Look at the flick of the wrist!!!
i really want to try this, but ill admit im a bit unsure it seems rather cruel to the animal. that said i really could use steering my CRAZY border Collie.
Excellent video. I liked the way you were able to calmly explain AND show the correct method to introduce your dog to the collar. You showed how efficiently and humanely the collar works and I enjoyed the fact that there was no strain or hurry in your voice. Stellar training video. Thank you. ☺
I've watched a bunch of videos on introducing a prong and this is by far the best one. So easy to understand and learn the little skills needed to use the collar effectively. Thank you!
What mix is your dog? We just adopted a pup that looks just like her!
She is fascinated by your chickens
Saying that you don’t want to pull up, but rather just pull diagonal parallel to the ground is a very big key point that nobody ever states
You sound recording must be louder. I have full volumn and can barely hear you.. and want to hear you.
In my opinion the prong collar is so much safer for your dog. Especially the Herm Sprenger collar. It applies equal pressure around the dogs neck. The flat collars will absolutely hurt your dog if they are pulling. It puts direct pressure on your dog’s larynx which chokes them. When used properly nothing beats the prong collar. Great video.
Madrid, Spain. Love the way you educate us on the prong collar. Great job!!!
Where can that heavy duty crate at the end of the video be purchased? Its 2023 and just came across this video. Wire crates today are made so cheap, if your dog has any desire to get out they most likely will be able to. I've done the whole zip tie/clips around all the edges and dogs have just pulled the wire cage itself apart and got out. The dog I need to crate is crate trained and has no issues being in the crate, its only when I'm gone for more than a couple hours she gets bored and would rather be sleeping on the couch. Plastic crates are useless, a few pounces against the door (by an 80lb dog) and the "lock" assembly (middle dial with one bar up/one bar down) just pops right out of place.
For the stare correction what level did you use? Still a 10?
Wow just tried a prong on my hard puller Aussie border mix and cured her pulling instantly. This is a game changing training tool for sure
My puppy is GSD-Dutch cross and very protective. He is very suspicious about other dogs and can be aggressive if he sees any sign that he does not like. He is friendly with most other people and especially with kids. And, there are dogs that he also tolerates in the neighborhood; one of them is a Greyhound which is known to be a very peaceful dog. Many people recommended going to dog parks to socialize him but I refused since I know he will start a big fight; not just barking, he goes for a full-fledged fight. And as you said, there is the risk of getting a germ or parasite. He is now 10 months old and, although I know protection and guarding are his natural instincts, he is going to be calmer with age and training. I see improvement every day as I show him my disapproval for unnecessary drama. And, he cares about my feedback although he struggles with his strong instincts. So yes, I say "No" to dog parks. Thank you!
