Pretty sure Steve from Code Veronica. A lot of things in this game came from code Veronica for example, the main character, Claire, is kidnapped, taken to an Island, where she fights off a beautiful woman trying to kill her and her love interest in turned into a mutation that then tries to kill her as well.

Neil is NOT Claire's love interest, as Neil is THE ONLY ONE that Claire specifically mentions is NOT her boyfriend. She NEVER mentions who her boyfriend is, but she specifically mentions Neil is NOT her boyfriend. And to add to this, Canonically, Claire has ZERO boyfriends in the entire series (not counting the remake). Next, Steve NEVER betrayed her trust before turning into a monster, but Neil betrayed her trust severely before turning into a monster. Notice, Claire even tries to step on Neil's throat. Next, this game is mostly about Moira and Barry, and Claire is a conduit to their story, coz from the very beginning, you are told the story of Moira's daddy issues and phobea of guns. But, you are right. that transformation scene and Claire's specific reaction is not one of fear, but it's one of TRAUMA. Neil is definitely someone she valued, more like a leader figure. She tends to gravitate towards anyone who she perceives is fighting bioterror. Gravitate not romantically, but on a level of fighting for the same cause. You even saw this in Degenerations where Claire tended to gravitate towards Frederick, someone who looks like he is clearly in his early 50s, also, for fighting for the same cause, not romantically. Think about this, Steve (someone she valued) in his monster form would still never betray her, as he kept himself from decapitating Claire. But Neil (someone she also valued but in a very different way) betrayed everything she worked for, and is turning into a monster and will kill her. So that reaction is a PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAUMA TRIGGER. MY friend, Claire's ORIGINAL story is one of TRAUMA, not triumph. She STILL didn't get over Steve's death even after THIRTEEN years down the line, and there is in-game evidence for all of this (or in-movie in Degenerations). Notice, Claire quoting Steve VERBAIDUM after 13 years about guns, but Moira has no idea what that really means. Given Claire and the Burtons are so close, this only means that after 13 years, claire STILL can't tell ANYONE about who Steve was and what he meant to her. @@TheBengalDragon a reference does not need to have complete accuracy to be a reference? clearly claire struggles seeing anybody transform in front of her not only due to the fact that it’s a largely traumatizing event but also because steve was someone she had a close connection and she had to watch him experience that

@@cttntxilz_2969 First of all, thanks for the response. It is important you pay attention to her facial expression. That is NOT an expression of fear. In fact, this whole set up is to induce fear and have people mutate into monsters due to the stress of fear (something you'd see in Batman maybe BTW). Claire never really gets afraid, but Claire gets TRAUMATIZED. Her facial expression is one of SEVERE trauma surfacing again, something she has SUPRESSED. I now believe, after watching the death scene very closely that Claire actually loved Steve... She folded up like an accordion, trying to crush herself into Steve's chest it looked like... Notice, after this memory was TRIGGERED, Claire gets ENRAGED and proceeds to kill Neil herself. Neil's transformation should NOT be traumatizing by fear to Claire, considering this is her FOURTH Biohazard style incident. The reason they don't focus on this more is coz that's not the purpose of Revelations 2. The purpose is to tell Moira's and Barry's story, where Claire is a conduit. Notice, Claire ACTUALLY QUITES STEVE WORD FOR WORD, when she finds a gun, and Moira has no idea what it means... She remembers Steve THAT WELL, a guy she knew for only ONE DAY, she remembers even what he said word for word. Doesn't this tell you how SEVERE the trauma of Steve's death was? I did an entire video essay on the Original Claire Redfield story EVERYONE missed. I invite you to watch it. In it, I show the depth and severity of this trauma, and why, there is overwhelming evidence that even after 13 years, she HAS NOT COME TO TERMS with Steve's death... She is SUPRESSING it.
