how did you connect the sensor to arduino? i have a drum pad from an old kit i want to reuse and it has 1/4" inch jack out ... wonder how best to get signal into arduino board.

Followed precisely step by step and sounds nothing alike. Do you have any post processing going on from the start? It's sounding completely different. Noticed this in two of your tutorials so far. Appreciate the videos but very odd that I can't get even close

8:15 P-Sound! Yo, you need the free plugin called "TheMasker" Cinemystic (an Italian company of local Italian college students that engineered it via the JUCE API Framework code. It could recalibrate the frequencies and give your needed mix here "space" between the frequencies, so everything is heard and never muffled (especially with the bass drum and bass sharing almost the same space by frequency default!)
