      We call those ants "Green Ants"(Oecophylla smaragdina). Actually, I should do a video on them because they're interesting little critters... as children we used to eat them. I don't know why the Crane Flies do this and despite lots of googling and asking entomology type people I haven't been able to find out.. defence sounds like a good theory, other suggestions include mating or simply staying warm. As a whingeing Pom, why is bush tucker disparaging? I just thought it meant food foraged from the wild.

    • @elgalloazul
      @elgalloazul 2 місяці тому

      We don't call potatoes "bush turnips".

    • @woodwidewebeducation
      @woodwidewebeducation 2 місяці тому

      It's my understanding that the disparagement is based in the history of the term. Colonists believed, incorrectly, that Australian Native Foods were tasteless and lacking in nutrition and so called it "bush tucker". Over the years this belief has persisted and for some people this means that the term is very offensive. Others have no problem with the term including many Indigenous Australians. So it's controversial.... much like many Indigenous Australians prefer to be called First Nations People but others find that term offensive. Complicated! Bush Tucker also seems absurdly inaccurate these days as many world class chefs seek out Australian Native Ingredients and demand certainly exceeds supply for most of those ingredients.
