I am Philmarusa to many. I live in the US and spend my time surfing the net and trying to stay close to my family and friends.
After years of being here I still haven't got this UA-cam thing down yet. Not for lack of trying.
I've had MS for 14 years and although it slows down my mental capacity it doesn't slow down my excitement for sharing, listening and enjoying everything that UA-cam has to offer.
If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to try to get back to you as soon as I can.
Goodbye 2020 Glad to see you go!

The Alien Visit.

I was inspired by a film from the great director Werner Herzog's clips. Thinking about a visit from an alien world looking for a new place to live. Music to be edited in the future.

What I understand are photos that are Public Domain and a song that I wrote as a test for a DAW I was playing with.

Another night watching 7th Heaven do what they do best. I particularly enjoyed this performance because it was improvised to a certain degree. 4 great singers and a band that backed them up. It was a delightful performance. Special thanks to Adobe and Canon.

The music here is from a first take on our attempt on getting it to tape. Most of our music in the Spies were originally written this way. Just the two of us. Me and Bryan Sorenson. I am proud. The recording was transferred to a Sonar X1 Digital Audio Workstation on a PC using Windows 7. I removed all the mistakes that I could do without taking away from the original 4 tracks. Listen was one of the first songs that Bryan and I put together. Another dark one as usual.

You are as good as ever Wish I could see you in person singing Your band is great as you are
Hardest Working group in Illinois!
PathedicK!
Great !
Kev is still around. Maybe search for Crows Feet.
This video was sent to me by my cousin, the daughter of my uncle Bill a few tears back. Thanks Cuz!
Great guitar cover Bob! I'm impressed!
Great job on guitar Bob!
He was a hard working guy!
Every time I listen to this I remember how fortunate I was back in the day to play with great guys and musicians.
They should make an AMC theatre with 1 auditorium so it can show organ performances just like this and any other performance theatres!
You had Keith and Adam
Better version. Better drummer.
This guy was da best! Someday I'll post others with you on drums too! Where are your other recordings?
I bet you say that to all your previous band mates!
I like this song. Drummer sucked.
I still don't know if this was serzinski or Ray Hampson We went through 11 drummers before you came walking in! You were a breath of fresh air.
Now Now.........it was a growing experience. Yes Jeffy, Your the one.
Haha So many years of playing these songs in the basement! I regret not video taping the live shows. I guess we will never know much. I have a Casette of us live. I'l post it if I can find it. The above UA-cam was obviously in the basement. It was the only complete version. Sad!
BTW....All the still photos were from the Lombard shoot except the Galileo pic. He couldn't make the gig........
It's an old SY99 Yamaha with a custom Hammond sample. I tweaked it for a more percussive sound and a slight growl. Thanks. The video is from back in 2001.
What kind of keyboard are you playing? Awesome sound....
An old Yamaha SY99. The best at the time for samplers players and built in FM Synth.
awesome!! still have amazing hair, dean!!
Dean is the manly man!
Joe's Telecaster sounds great - just like I remember it !!! KEWL !?!?!?!??!!!!!!! Nice swinging arrangement !! I wish I still had my mini moog and micromoog - I was a fool to sell the much more stable micromoog especially after I had done some great trigger and MIDI moidifications to it ...
The micro was magic. I have a sub-37 now but I don't play it much. My brother has a mini in New York but it is really out of shape except for the Midi Retrofit but he doesn't want to mess with it. Are you posting your music on line here?
I have a Moog Lil Phatty rack mount now in my MIDI sound module rack rig, and like you dont get to play it much either, because life's day to day demands, no longer allow for much time for music in my life anymore. But I do what I can, I usually grab the acoustic guitar because it is easiest instrument to grab and play - no electronics required, and hammer out a couple of tunes just before bed time .. c'est la vie .
Play more or make more time if it made you happy or satisfied. The Phatty is the beginning of the sub-37 as you well know. I can no longer play because MS has left my brain incapable to record in anything but real time. I am trying to create new circuits for my brain to recall that function and it is a slow process if it even can be done. I stopped performing in 2003. after 13 years I am finally getting more of my concentration back. I will keep going until I drop trying to start recording something from something other than real time. You never know what you had until it gets taken away from you. Live your full life and if music draws you back then jump on it. If and when you retire you can go back and do those things that you loved from those earlier years. It will be a great Retirement hobby. By the way I recognize your face but don't remember where else we met other than maybe at some gig once. Thanks for you interest. I posted a beginning attempt with the Slow Children AKA The Spies on You Tube a few days ago. It's called Cry Cry. I don't even remember if we played it live. Perhaps you may remember. It was done When Brayan and I were just dreaming.Pure analog recording. I had sold my Mini and eventually bought the micro for the Spies 2 years after those early 4 channel ideas. I may post some of the early Slow Children stuff as my energy allows. Bon Vivant!
a lot of people don't know that David (Jones) Bowie took voice lessons/ instruction after he became successful in order to become a better singer, less nasal sounding, and to emulate the vocal style and texture of Anthony Newley . Which I think he surpassed.
Did not know that, thanks. I'm a big fan from my youth.
I believe it was actually in the late 70s - didnt you record rehearsals on 1/4" tape in the basement ?
+MANTHRAX YES WE DID. THE OTHER VERSION HERE IN YT IS FROM A BASEMENT SESSION. AND WHO ARE YOU, MY DEAR SIR? :)
Samie and Tony! ua-cam.com/video/cYidEbwudQY/v-deo.html
Thanks for the comments. I am rather relaxed (lax) at commenting. My motto. Relaxed is the friend of Now!
Very nicely done, Mr. Martinez. In the '70's very few days went by when I didn't listen to a Laura Nyro album.
She was my crush when I was younger.
Love it! 😊
Adorable 😊
Awwww...so sweet. I had a gray cockatiel named Roc, had him for 18 years...what a character! 😄
Another one of my old faves! This sounds awesome! 😊
Awesome! One of my old faves, sounds very good!! 😊
I had completely forgotten about that. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Good times were had by all.....
Yes good times were had. I wished I remembered more.
Great performances by all, Phil! When was this recorded?
It was recorded in the 90's I think. At my store in Round Lake,IL. Thank you.
TY
I like it! =)
......and Jeffrey Payne, Drums
Of course.
You are right Sir. The Best Spies incarnation!!!!!! I will change the UA-cam comments. Sorry
Yeppers, its an iPhone 4S. If the 5S isn't up to my taste in upgrades I'll keep my 4S (64gig) for at least another 6 months.
The Spies were special. In my eyes. My baby....2 years before the first gig and a short year and a handful of gigs. The end of the Spies was the demands to sell out to the money makers. Never regretted saying no. Thanks Gary.
You got it just right this time, amigo ...
Cool to hear you guys!
Is that your phone camera?
Yea. Most likely an 10 year old iPhone.
Of course.
SO COOL!! don't see much of MDW plane spotting here.
Beautiful place and I'm impressed with your phone being able to capture that great organ playing.
Is that's in St louis?
Downer's Grove, IL.
It’s east of Lombard IL
Downers Grove (15 miles west of Chicago).
I didn't do much. Just playing with the UA-cam editor. Thanks
Nice edit :D
My kids are more adorable but I may be a bit Biased!
Nice
Beautiful piece!
Thanks Jeff.
I was a fan ever since I first heard Anthony. I was prepared for Tony because of Bowie!
WONDERFUL!!! THANK YOU!
This is my secret Spies chanel. Your welcome Sue.
