This is amazing! Thank you :D
Amazing nursery. Thanks so much for showing us around.
Zis a Ba it! Return to the roots, saltwater marshes, estuarine charges enabling those headed to Oceanic flows just the habitat increase cover, woody debris, root wads, fallen trees, boulders or rocky ledges, any places to hide! These elements provide for scour, habitat may become more complex places for juveniles to rest in between foraging. Zis a Ba It! (This must be it.)
Smoltification or the process of osmoregulation of juvenile salmon from fresh to salt water is a major factor for juveniles to adjust to saltwater physiologically as they gain in size and weight before they exit to the Ocean waters.
Greetings from a Dune Restorationist, Manila, CA, take out the Non-Natives, replanted some with Native grass, other Natives came back including yellow sand verbena! So when the levee breaks that's where the juvenile salmon need to be, utilizing ocean cool waters, estuarine salinities to become smolts. Putting on sufficient size is essential for the oceanic challenges, and greatly increases their survival in the ocean. Read High Country News Vol.56\ March 2024, was stoked to add Comments as these Nurseries are essential for outgoing smolts.
Some of those plant names are tongue twisters! Lol
How very CORPORATE-YUCK
Native to where, big guy? "Native" is pretty contingent on the location. I'm half way through the video and you haven't mentioned where you are located. C'mon Moe
Do a little research for yourself. That’s part of the fun. But you knew you could do that already didn’t you, big guy?
Why be a troll, big guy? Why not help foster a supportive, constructive community, big guy? This is a very useful video, big guy, even for me who lives in the northeast where not all of these plants are native. I just googled a range map and you could too, big guy.
@@Dtaberner not trollin....wonderin....cool vid - "big guy"
Haha, lotta push back for a pretty tame and honest critique. Maybe just mention the location next time and chill out....big guy - "The lady doth protest too much, me thinks" or "a hit dog howls"...lol@@benchrestman1685
Thank you for this video. It was perfect!! I really needed this video and information thank you for being so very descriptive the only thing I just kind of question is that would be cool to get closer UPs of the plant but that's it, live in Michigan and have been getting so many native flowers, mostly native And it's crazy to see how they prefer native way more than non native species or hybrids or non native, or an invasive species. , I've noticed with gardening for over 18 years that 90% of the time they have way more pollinators and definitely different kinds. in way more different kinds. I used to hate goldenrod for some reason we just when I was growing up I was told it was for my allergies. And I don't know for some reason I just thought it was ugly you see it everywhere and the sides of roads. But this year I've actually grown to like them t same as milk weed. So I added those to the gardens in the bees f****** go crazy over them too. after looking really close to goldenrod and researching it fucking appreciate its beauty so many ants flies nats butterflies wasp bees months. I just would see it growing everywhere so it doesn't really fascinate me but over the years I've started to appreciate it needed flowers so much. I found one prairie dock plant down the road from my house and God I want that plant that plant is what brought me to this video and I don't want to dig it up out of its habitat even though it was on the side of the road since there was one but I'm going to go back there and harvest the seeds and when those grow at my house I'll spread the seeds around my house. And also spread the seeds down the sides or roads and what not.
Perhaps tell us where you are in the video. It’s a big country and “native” is relative.
He stated Indiana early part of the video.
The bridge thats being built sown at north deep creek near the train station, seems to me to be taking very long to get finished compared ro the other ones. They have laid bitumen, finished three other over pass bridges yet the north deep creek one looks to be a long way from being finished. Some of the rumours ive hears getting around about some of the bridge builders, i can understand why its taking so long. I will be very suprised ive its ebem completed by 2024
Asclepias tuberosa transplants really well from taproot actually! You don't even need the entire taproot. For context, it looks very similar to a large carrot or Parsnip, and plants will happily regrow from remaining taproot that breaks off in the soil, and from whatever taproot is recovered. You can even cut the taproot into pieces and plant them on their sides so the regrowing plant can orient itself up and not be accidentally planted on its head. I've had lots of great success growing them this way
Could you possibly post up the latest up-to-date flyover video of works on the Gympie Bypass? I'd love to see the progress of how much work has been done on it.
great video!
I like Pycnathemun muticum best because the silvery bracts really look nice in my native plantings. but all mountain mints are amazing for looks and pollinators! Love the stuff! I plant them with monarda along my garden pathways so anyone brushing up against them gets a lovely aroma of spearmint/ peppermint scent with the earl grey tea scent of monarda.
Thanks for this nice tour!
Are you growing these colonies to sell seed? You seem very knowledgeable and I’m amazed at your pronunciation of the cultivars name. I learned a lot watching this. Ty ❤
That’s quite a large operation. Every season with its variables teaches more about growing these plants.
This is great! Thank you for your presentation Mr. O'Brien! : )
what app or video editing software did you used? thank you!
Zone please
Not positive but I believe they are located in northern Indiana, which would put them in zone 5b.
These all grow throughout the Midwest, upper Midwest pretty much from Minnesota to the east coast on down into Georgia and often into Iowa, and Nebraska or even the Dakotas for some.
What zone are you in?
I planted some rattlesnake master last year, so I’ve only had it for one season (they didn’t flower last year as they were small). What do I do in the spring (now) for pruning and maintenance? I’m hoping they lived as none of them are showing growth yet (though most plants here are just starting to grow). The leaves are all brown and crunchy. Should I cut the leaves back or just leave them until I see growth?
The leaves should be green. It may be dead.
It is an evergreen plant in its native range.
Thanks for the reply. I did end up losing 3 of them due to root rot, but all the other ones have been growing well. I trimmed off the brown areas and it did fine. Still no flower stems growing but I would be surprised if they did produce any this year
Mr O'Brien clearly knows this stuff!
Amazing to see the achievements. Honoured to work with him in the past. All the very best Awais Bhai.
He is an amazing personality. Humble and knows what he is doing.
Great work! I am very glad to see this, and thrilled to hear you'll be making more videos on the topic. Keep up the good work!
What's the soundtrack for this video? Beautiful!
Hi! Your content was actually educational! I have been trying to find for a video similar to yours that breaks down the stuff in this UA-cam video. 🧑🏻⚕️Your lesson for sure is similar to the content from Dr Ethan. Doctor Ethan's explanations are educational and he helped me on midterms. He is a respected health enthusiast! You should check his YT out and give Dr Ethan a like! ➡️ #StudentDoctorEthan
It would be nice to see the finished work 🏴
Hello, thank you for let us know this. What software does this simulation?

one thing i disagree with is putting all those rocks out there. mother nature did not do it and they need too quit doing it. they talk about canoes and kayaks wanting too run the river than they put out rocks too hit. boggles the mind. and no you do not need ripples for fish when there was none before.
To....two....too.

So many of these videos end with the project 1/2 or 3/4 complete. Like this one.
My hope is that in 100 years there’s a city of 100,000 in the pilbara. And at some point Karratha city will become the capital of northern WA
Richard Watts could be!
Very awesome video. Is there going to be any new structure built there? Like the little kayak dams at Riverscape?
A grade control structure /constructed riffle was completed to replace the former dam structure. Unlike the referenced Riverscape Project in Dayton, our structure is mostly subsurface (underwater) and it’s not really visible to kayakers. There is a ~1’ft notch that installed through the structure so that in lower flows kayakers will know where to go to avoid portages… But in normal and higher flows, there will be no noticeable ‘rapids’ like Riverscape.
Making a difference
