The difference is that they had a once in a lifetime star in Michael Jordan, willing to carry the team and pick up the slack in areas where they struggled. Once they finally broke through and won the entire organization whined 24/7 about "not getting enough credit" and MJ being "too mean" or "too selfish". After officially running MJ away from the franchise, they slipped back into the mediocre to poor franchise that they've always been.
