I muddle through crafts for tabletop games like Mordheim, D&D, EZD6 and the like. I also interview smarter people to learn more!
I Broke My Warhammer Terrain (It's just a flesh wound)
The paint was barely dry on my latest piece of terrain and there I went dropping it like an absolute doofus. Luckily it wasn't too badly damaged so I was easily able to patch it up. In this video I'll show you how I do that, as it's useful to know - even if you don't drop your terrain, wear and tear will happen.

Let's Make Bog Standard Warhammer Terrain!
Переглядів 7347 годин тому
Let's make some beginner terrain for Warhammer and other tabletop games! In this tutorial, I'll be using some basic household materials and tools to make some rocky hills for the table. In the process, I'll also show you how I make some useful crafting materials! You can see how I make home made static grass at ua-cam.com/video/L-GZTBGqKzo/v-deo.html and sawdust flock at ua-cam.com/video/FJA4ac...
Let's Kitbash some Dwarven Spearmen for Warhammer, EZD6, OPR and D&D!
Переглядів 1562 місяці тому
Finally got around to assembling the rest of my dwarven warriors that I bought back in the 1990s. My throng is short on spears though, and since the two handed axes are just about the same size and posed like they're shouldered, I thought I'd replace the axe heads with spearheads. I don't think Citadel ever released any plastic dwarves with spears - not that I recall at least - which is weird b...
Steal these ideas from Baldur's Gate 3 for your tabletop fight scenes!

Larian Studio's Baldur's Gate 3 is a masterclass in games design - great writing, fantastic voice work, and a lot of fun to play. In this video, I dig into some ideas behind the fight design in this game which keep a potentially repetitive experience fresh and interesting all the way through, and most importantly, how this can be transplanted into our tabletop games. If you want to learn more a...
How do you tell a horror story in 40mm?
Переглядів 2253 місяці тому
I love environmental storytelling, though I usually have to hold back on that on my terrain builds to make them more reusable. This time, I got to indulge a little on a tiny Halloween build, which was a challenge in itself - how do you tell a story in such a small area? If you want to see more Halloween builds, join us for our Spooky Crafting Challenge stream, live Sunday 27th October 2024 on u...

Nice fix 👍
Thank you 😊 very pleased with it (though still pissed I dropped it!)
Hey, I kinda like to crack it adds character
It turned out looking well brother nice video 🤘🔥❤️👍
Thanks mate!
That crack looked like a quartz vein. =^[.]^=
Kinda did :) Pretty sure it would have gotten bigger with use though.
This is nice I can even tell where it broke after you repair it. If you remember my watchtower, it fell to the floor just before doing the final pictures and I had to make some fixes 🤣🤣
It happens man, usually at the least opportune moments XD I'm glad you could save that tower, it's a cool build!
First big like 😊
Grazie Stefano e Liam!
❤️👍🔥🤘
🔥💪💪🤘
Alright, stop. Collaborate, and listen… 😂😂😂 Excellent hills, not to mention the icey, icey babies!!! I’m sure a lot of cool scenarios can be made with those! ❤️
Ah, i see you are also a man of culture! Thank you Cap'n!
Looks fantastic! I used to use coffee grinds and bake in the oven to dry completely, then mix with some woodglue and spread on a terrain
Thank you! That works really well too, and it's certainly another option for some types of terrain! :)
Ice Ice baby
Whoop whoop! Thank you ^-^
Stellar work! I learned a lot!
Thank you so much! It was a learning experience for me too. None of the things I did here were completely new to me, but re-treading old territory slowly so I could document it properly gave me some new insights, like how to mix modelling compound better. Small gains, but useful ones.
Looks great and the tutorial is good. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching! Glad you found it interesting :)
1:08 Alternatively, you could simply use crumpled aluminum foil covered with a stiffener like glue to act as your rock texture; that might save you some effort and materials. 3:35 What if I don't know what cottage cheese feels like? Is that some sort of advanced research I need to do? =^[.]~= 6:37 Using actual dirt from outside could bring in a variety of small to micro-organisms indoors; many folks will give their dirt a gentle bake in the oven before using it, just to be sure. 8:29 I really liked how your "iceberg" turned out! A light dusting of bicarbonate of soda (or Christmas craft snow flocking) on a damp (not wet!) surface can add some texture, if desired. =^[.]^=
Those are some great points,. thank you! Cottage cheese is... kinda mushy but doesn't fall apart on its own :) Think kinda soft clay. Re. Baking dirt: Yes. I usually leave mine in a shallow tray in the sun over summer, but people in colder climates might not have that option. Interesting about the bicarbonate. Definitely worth a try! Stiffened aluminum foil would work, but it would compromise the durability of the piece and the paintwork as it will end up with air pockets under it, leaving unsupported areas to get crushed eventually.
@@Karlmakesstuff Nah. Just stuff some cottage cheese under the foil to prevent air pockets before slathering it in PVC/paint. =^[.]~=
That's probably trickier than just making the plaster rocks :) Although thinking about it, you could probably back the foil with some hot glue to fill the gaps.
@@Karlmakesstuff I *KNOW* what hot glue feels like! =@[.]@=
Ice ice baby! Well, snow, too. Great vid, Karl. As for grass v flock, I find both can be quite durable, as long as firmly sealed with PVA or whatever. I find natural fiber grass to end up tougher... Ruggeder? ... than the nylon stuff. Pretty sure that's to do with the natural fibers drinking in the PVA
Thanks Cross! That's interesting about the natural fibers - I'll keep an eye on it but I suspect you're on to something there. Rock on!
Fantastic!
Thank you Mia!
If you want to learn how to make your own sawdust flock, you can find the video at ua-cam.com/video/FJA4acaBu18/v-deo.html The tutorial for static grass is at ua-cam.com/video/L-GZTBGqKzo/v-deo.html Many thanks to Art Diorama for the Ice idea! Fantastic tutorial. Have you found after 2 years if there has been any cracking or shrinking over time?
Nope, not so far! There is some shrinkage early on in the process when the caulk is first curing, which is why you need the canvas under tension until that sets completely. After that it's stable. The caulk layer is not very thick, so cracking has not been a problem so far, but if you use sand instead of baking powder it could be; haven't really experimented in that direction. The grass mat was a dud, but the problem was the layer of PVA I used for the flock. It's far less flexible than the caulk, and the resulting layer made rolling it up very unpleasant... Apart from the weird reaction with the caulk which left white patches everywhere. The plain desert and ash waste ones didn't have that problem. I'll take some pictures later today and post them in the community tab. Will check on my water mat too as that uses different materials and I haven't used that in a while - will report back!
Just googled how to run CoS in ezd6 to run this for my players and found your wonderful video, thank you for the work you put in!
Thank you for watching! Hope it was useful 🙂
This is absolutely great content man, thank you for posting!! I've already tried this out for my own builds❤🙏💥🧙♂️
Thank you, and that's awesome! If you're on discord at all and want to show off your builds, do drop in! Link's in the About section of the channel.
@Karlmakesstuff Alright, awesome!! I'll definitely look into that. Not on discord now but that can be changed quickly😊 Thank's for the invitation man🙏💫
Amazing, this is so inspiring🎉🙏✨️
Thank you! The tiny scale project is kind of on a hiatus but I'd love to build a board on this scale eventually - offers a lot more scope than 28mm scale :)
@Karlmakesstuff Definitely!! Epic landscapes with av veeery tiny footprint😊
Awesome conversation :D loved listening to this! Great questions Karl! Well deserved, but also amazing how fast Peter's channel and content has picked up.
Thank you! Interviews are easy when you have great interviewees :D The growth on Peter's channel is awesome, but not terribly surprising - it's a combination of quality and the fantastic community he's cultivating around the channel :)
Was such a pleasure to join you for this chat! 🤠
Was a pleasure talking to you! Looking forward to taking the game for a spin 😁
🎉 Grazie infinite!
Setting the mood.
For sure :) *grins evilly*
I LOVED watching this stream. You guys knocked it out of the park today!
Both these gents brought their a-game! The context they provided really switched around a lot of things in my head, plus it was so much fun!
🧊+🔥 - I love seeing your process!
Thanks 😊 it was a fun build. Definitely not one i'd do in winter though; I happened to do this during a heatwave, which was lucky as it would have taken ages to dry otherwise 😅
Easy to follow. And a good voice for narration. Cheers for the guide!
Thank you! :) I've changed the ground mixture and flocking I'm using these days, but the basics for this still hold :)
Nice job! I'm curious on how many silicone tube you used per mat?
Thank you! If I remember correctly I used two tubes to make the three of them. It's acrylic caulk though, not silicone caulk - the results would be a bit different with that. I used silicone on my ocean mat if you want to see the difference :)
@@Karlmakesstuff Thank you ! good point
Nice!!! (It is good to have the approval of a Dungeon Matron.)
Nice
Cheers ☺️
They look great!!! Very unified! I’ll be looking forward to seeing the painting pics!
Thank you 😁
Thanks for sharing 😊
My pleasure :)
NIce looking little group ;)
Thank you :) I quite like them ^-^
Very useful points. Also big thanks for adding clear manual subtitles, that really makes a difference.
Thank you, and thanks for watching! 😊
Really nice ideas! I didn't play the game myself but watched my partner throughout her run and I totally agree that there are a lot of cool ideas for making encounters way more interesting.
The studio who made it totally earned those awards! Even a low-fantasy grump like me can appreciate it :)
@@Karlmakesstuff Yeah Larian put some great videogames out there :)
Great tips. I haven't played BG yet but I like how you used a popular, relevant game to make your points.
Thank you 😊 Not so much my points as what I *think* the designers had in their playbook, but I may be completely off track 😅
“HOOOOOO is a distinguished gentleman?!?” 🥰🥰🥰 Not only is your owlbear adorable, those are a lot of great points for designing good narrative!!!
Thank you! I'm certain there are other points that sailed right over my head, but these are plenty to get started with 😁
