EU4 Ethical Challenge - No War Declarations, No Coring, No Seizing Land, No Missionaries
Переглядів 31 тис.Місяць тому
This is a challenge run for EU4 based on the idea of playing in an ethical manner. Most of my normal games involve rapid expansion and frequent declarations of war, using missionaries to convert provinces, and seizing land from estates. Is it possible to play EU 4 without doing any of that? Here are the rules for this challenge: - We cannot declare wars - We cannot core new provinces (nor can o...

you helped the usa in several times, every time you defeated the usual colonizers and did not colonize yourself.
Really nice video. I'd actually been wondering about doing a "no offensive wars" run for a while, just trying to expand diplomatically, but this feels far more impressive, relying solely on allies and forts for defense. Out of curiosity, did you bother with the Objective button much when trying to direct allies to target certain provinces? I've had such mixed results with it that sometimes I'm not sure if it really does anything at all. Vassals seem to listen more or less, but independent allies seem just as likely to flip me off and go marching to the other side of the planet than siege the wargoal province I'm pointing at.
Incredible video! Just the right balance of information about your gameplay decisions and general goings-on in the game on the one hand, and speed of presentation on the other. Even as someone who hasn't played EU IV since ... idk 2017 or something, I was able to follow what was happening in detail without effort. How integral to this challenge, do you think, was it that you picked Trebizond in particular? Mission trees in general seem absurdly strong compared to back when I played the game, but even then Byzantium's mission tree and unique events and decisions seem ridiculous. That's not a knock against your run, btw, after all, the AI also all get the benefits of all their mission trees, and by the time you got to Byzantium it was clear that you would come out as #1 great power at the end of the game no matter what tag you were playing as. I was more thinking about whether it would be possible in other starting locations to "ally up" so consistently, and actually get something out of those alliances.
I haven't really tried this challenge anywhere else, but my guess is that it can work most places if you (a) play as a monarchy, and (b) share the same religion as most of your neighbors. So, for example, I think this would be totally doable with a Catholic monarchy in Europe or a Sunni monarchy in the Middle East. A minority religion or a government that can't do royal marriages (theocracy/republic) would make this significantly harder/maybe impossible for some tags. Trebizond's unique gov reform is the only reason we were able to ally Muslim countries like AQ and the Mamluks, and without that it would have been much more difficult. The mission trees are really strong, and I do think it's another player advantage since I don't think the AI really understands/plays to them very well. Post 1.36 Byzantium gets a handicapped early game, with a bunch of debuffs, but if you can navigate your way out of that it's probably one of the more broken mission trees in the game. Of course, if you form Byz as somebody else you skip all the debuffs and go straight to the OP stuff. Trebizond's tree alone is pretty strong, and if you start combining them then things can get out of hand. Thanks for the kind words - I'm glad this stuff is still enjoyable to those who have been out of the scene for a while.
@@rooosgamingden Well, the same religion stuff is one part of it, in order to make it possible for you to form alliances in the first place, but I was wondering whether being able to do so across religion groups might have helped you in that you had basically two sets of allies with highly different priorities/AI weights, and could maybe more consistently find _at least someone_ to go to war with any given target? this might be my inexperience leading me astray, though, I can't recall whether your allies being friendly with a war target meaningfully impacted their decision to honour a call to arms against said target, or whether it was only stab hits, distance and debt/manpower considerations. In any case, thanks for elaborating!
Rooo: "If you ever wonder how AI nations lose so many troops to attrition" Me with my -1784k troops lost to attrition: 😅 (no joke)
Congratulations impressive. It is in Ironman ?
Yes, I almost always play ironman.
I can’t wait to see more of your stuff man. Baffling that this is only your 3rd EU4 video. Your presentation style is one of the best I’ve seen. Please keep it up
Thanks, glad you enjoy it. Definitely more to come!
Hey man, just wanted to tell you i really enjoy your eu4 content. I usually dont comment but i want to support you and bump up that algorithm. Keep up the good work! Love the chill commentary. ❤
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Persia has been going absolutely ham in a lot of my recent runs, too. Thought it was a fluke, but I guess that Persia expansion buffed them way more than I thought.
Yeah I’ve noticed that. I like it, it adds a potential counter balance to Otto/Mams, and Persia often goes (or stays) Shia which is some nice variety.
@rooosgamingden Agree completely. Very nice to see Turks/Mams have an actual rival in their own region. And it's actually kinda nice to have a major power in the region to check players trying to shoot for India.
Amazing content. I enjoyed every second of it. I like the play style but i would have semi permenant 1 or 2 strong marches for not relying on your allies all the time. And since you have nice diplo rep i would have released some nations and diplo vassalize them as well.
Yep that would have been a good call. I was concerned with subject liberty desire but I think by the mid to late game we were large enough and had good enough dip rep that we could have one or two decent sized marches to help out.
Please keep making Eu4 content! It's so entertaining! :D
Thanks, glad you like it!
21:55 my guess is that the ai trying to be "fair" to the player because the player is outnumbered Or its just the ai being dumb, one of the 2,but idk how eu4 ai works so its iust a guess, but the ai is pretty dumb so...i wouldn't put it past them that the ai is just a big dumb idiot...

I absolutely love your videos!
Thanks, glad you enjoy them!
Oj man, I am curious if you know about or perhaps plan to play "Anbennar" in the future? And your opinion on such mode
Honestly I haven’t messed with mods much. Short term I think I’m going to stick with vanilla, but I wouldn’t rule anything out long term. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm loving your EU4 content!
Thanks!
I usually watch these types of videos on my second monitor while doing something else, but the narration, the gameplay and the editing quality were so good, I dropped everything I was doing and watched it like a movie. You'll become one of the biggest eu4 channels in no time.
As somebody who plays videos and podcasts on my second monitor all the time, that’s high praise! I appreciate it.
This is some FlorryWorry level gameplay, but actually well documented and pleasantly explained
Florry has forgotten more about EU4 than I’ll ever know, but I appreciate the compliment!
Meanwhile me barrely forming manchu and yuan 😢
Your content is amazing, it’s some of the most engaging and nice to listen to EU4 content out there. Keep it up:)
Thanks, appreciate that!
Great video, absolutely loved your narration style and the very unique run. Have yourself a new sub.
Thanks and welcome!
Having no allies is sadly a given for many tags, where there aren't many worthwhile nations to ally with. But restricting yourself to Qizilbash and roleplay ideas was seriously impressive, especially when facing Ottomans, France and a powerful Russia in the same war! Offensive + trade and quantity would have been more conventional pick but your army quality in the end was really insane
True. There aren’t many good Shia allies early (Bahmanis is probably the best you can get, and if you’re playing in the Middle East that’s pretty much just a defensive shield) and there are plenty of other tags in that same boat. Glad you enjoyed the run!
It was like listening to a poem
extremely high quality eu4 gameplay! Please keep em comin!
Thanks, I have some more ideas I’m working on.
lmfao fucking amazing
Really like your challenge runs, great work!
Thank you!
The pace of this video is super nice, as well your narration. Keep up the amazing job!
Thanks!
Great content, though i constantly have to remind myself not to get back into eu4. ❤
I know the feeling. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Your manner is somewhat reminiscent of the old text based Wiz paradox let's plays before he joined paradox. Really enjoyed this playthrough and the way you treat it as an alternate history breakdown as much as it's a game play through.
"I have no enemies...my allies, on the other hand."
"I will win but never fight, that's the art of war!!!!" --Sun Tzu --Sabaton --Paradox Interactive
I'm really enjoying your EU4 videos so far. The challenges are interesting, you play well, it's all understandable, and relaxed instead of intense. I think you have a really good sense for what to put in the video too - you actually include details of the wars so it feels like I know what's going on instead of lots of jumping, even though you cut a lot out. Keep them coming!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
As a Pole, I approve of your choice of alliances throughout this run 💕
smh why didn't Justinian just delete his army
One of a few brave souls willing to take early-game Ottomans head on, and with no armys. Impressive
Your videos make EU4 enjoyable for me again! As you mentioned towards the end, I like the early game the most because there is still challenge. Do you have any tips on how I can make the late game fun and provide a challenge?
If you put restrictions on yourself the late game can still be a challenge (for example, in my no army run, the late game was harder in some ways than the early game). But for normal runs usually I’ve accomplished what I wanted by 1600-1650 and I end it there. Glad you enjoyed the videos!
130th largest army do be vibing
Great run. The only country better then Trebizond for something like this would be Garhwal.
I just binged all your EU4 videos in one sitting. Good stuff.
Glad you liked them!
How did Ottos get to Brazil?
I think they randomly went expansion ideas, managed to get a colony in Brazil, and then took a few more off Portugal as part of a war. It wasn’t a huge colonial nation but still pretty funny.
I like your narration a lot, and your gameplay is very enjoyable to watch. Cheers from Morocco.
Thank you!
great video! Do Qizilbash regiments have additional bonuses except additional 10 shock dmg?
The wiki says Qizilbash start with a 25% maintenance cost reduction and -5% fire damage received. There’s an estate privilege Regimental Discipline that gives 10% shock damage for Qizilbash and scaling discipline (for all units I think). Ardabil also starts with the shock damage Muslim scholar.
This is such a high quality EU4 video You obviously put a ton of work into this. Awesome work 👍
Thanks, I appreciate that!
I appreciate having a non-clickbait creator, and the play is technically very solid too. Restricted gameplay is definitely a very under-utilized way to explore new concepts in EU4.
Thanks! I really like EU4 but once you’ve played enough the normal game can sort of feel like a solved puzzle. These challenge conditions keep things interesting and people are a lot more into them than I expected.
Is there a reason you don't attach your stacks? Or at least time their marches so they arrive on the same day and in proper formation?
I’m not great at army micro. I can get away with that for the most part in single player, but I’m sure I would get demolished in mp.
@@rooosgamingden The attachment mechanical is a little scuffed (last I played the game in 1.35), particularly with mercs, but it works okay with regular armies. A lot of your battles are going several rolls with only partial front lines and you end up with infantry on the flanks and cav sandwiched in the line, so I'd give it a try in the future. Particularly, when you're facing hard fights. Alternatively, make a template of your smaller stacks, then just merge them all before the battle and after use the conform to template button to separate them back out easily. For 3 or more stacks, merge into doom stack and then separate back out with the template button is the easier option as sometimes it can get confusing which army is the "top" army for attaching.
Good tips, I’ll have to try those out.
You're awesome man, great commentary and skill. Keep going!
Appreciate the support!
If you turn on slacken recruitment standards you get way more from the mysticism manpower button. If you turn it off straight away you'll only spend 1 professionalism, which you can get easily from just hiring a general.
super interesting run gj
Thanks!
I just found this channel, and I'm loving it so far. The even tone makes it very relaxing unlike a lot of the popular bombastic EU4 gamers. The editing is also very well done. It doesn't skip over important details but it concise enough that a run doesn't take 12 hours to cover.
Thanks - I try to strike a balance between showing enough details and respecting the viewer’s time. Glad to hear it’s working!
