General maker/messer
I turned a whisky cup for the first time .
I'm new to woodturning and after lots of discussion on the @No1CrudeMistakes podcast which I co host with @behindthemistakes and @CrudeButEfficient about wooden whiskey cups I decided to make one for big H
It was a very enjoyable make
Thanks as always to my mate Steve for creating and performing the music for this video

I made a strumstick from a Fire extinguisher
Переглядів 1,9 тис.21 день тому
Welcome to part three of the strumstick saga. This is what happens when you have an old fire extinguisher hanging around and a fondness for making instruments and a sprinkling of imagination. Thankyou to my mate Steve for as always creating and performing all the music in this video. And thank you to @hychika for letting me try out the drill/driver hychika.com/?sca_ref=6636705.YqSO4biX9Pv short...

A friend of mine @diyishbychloe has recently run a challenge on instagram #diyishstorish Which gave me the push I needed to fix one of my workshop storage problems. #diy #workshop #woodworking #project #homemade #fun #storage #pillardrill #powertools #drillbits

Where could I buy one , as I had a operation on my chord hand which stopped me playing my six string guitar. I would like a electric one . any help would be great , thank you .
I think etsy has some with the piezo pic up stuck on 👍
Great make Glenn. I’d been thinking how to make a couple of tumblers to go with a whiskey box I’ve got to make for a present. This deffenatly solves that problem. 👍
Cheers Ross Can't wait to see yours 👍
That's so lovely Glenn ! 😍 watching this really makes me want to get out & practice turning a bit more. I've never attempted anything other than handles. Beautiful stuff mate
Thanks Sam I was warned turning is addictive and it kind of is for me at the moment. Be warned ⚠️ 🤣
@No1projects 😆 thanks mate, I won't hold you accountable then if I end up going out & buying all sorts of new toys to poke at the lathe with
😀👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏
🙂🙂👍👍
Looks bonnie 🥃💪
Cheers John 😀👍
Nice cup! Have you tried reducing the speed when drilling the hole? I got worried for your forstner bit cooking + there should be shavings, not dust 🙂
I sure did my lathe has 3 speeds and that was the lowest 🙂👍
❤❤❤❤nice
Thank you 😊
Nicely done, Big H is gonna be pleased. Or is that marking just so you can taunt him from afar?
Cheers KJ Thank you , let's hope he like it 🙂
Me wanting an oak flavoured whisky right now just says it all, doesn't it? 🤩
Now I want a whisky 😋
@@No1projects Might pull out the "big guns" for this one 😉
That turned out great. 😊
Thank you 🙂👍
Very nice 😊
Thank you 😊
So cool Glenn !! Mate I thought my mind was blown the 1st time I saw a cigar box guitar. That was epic! So many skilsets used in there. Awesome stuff
Thanks Sam I'm really chuffed with how it turned out , thank you for your kind words ☺️
@@No1projects as you should mate, such a unique & exciting build 👏
That's amazing
Thanks 🙂👍
Really cool!!!
Thank you 🙂
Excellent video again Glenn. I didn’t know you could repurpose things for guitars. Lesson learnt. Have a good weekend.
Cheers mate and you 🙂👍
Music reminds me of Roy Harper! 😊 Steve must be a punk rock hippy! 😂
Steve is definitely a punk rock hippy 🤣
Nicely done, cutting the extinguisher on the table saw seemed a lot easier than I thought it would be.
Yeah it was pretty straightforward
Very nice! I’m a wood guy and do it with a cigar box guitar.
Thank you 🙂👍
Looks amazing and sounds pretty damn good 😎
Thanks Dean a mic malfunction didn't do it justice to be fair 🙂
The music at 3:20 reminds me of one of the best podcasts I've ever heard! Nice video also. Still feel a cringe in my fingers when I see the cutting, even though it seems perfectly legit 😅
That music is from a podcast which I'm the lead host on 🤣 Yes cutting steel on the table saw does take some getting used too.
@@No1projects 😂
Awesome!!!!! Really unique and sounds so goooood!!!! Well done you! 🔥🧯
Thanks Michelle really glad you liked it 🙂
Now i want to make one. The only part im nervous about getting right is the frets
I think I show measurements of frets in this vid what I didn't show is it's 18.5 cm from the bridge to the first fret , hope this helps 👍 New strumstick vid coming out this week 🙂 Good luck
Cool
Thanks 🙂

Glad I could entertain you Big H 🤣
@@No1projects Thank you!

Thank you for your concern, the saw and blade are designed to cut metal and it seemed pretty safe whilst doing it ,all we can do is take all the precautions we deem necessary . 🙂🙂👍
@@No1projects Thanks for reply☺️ Let's have fun without any accidents ‼ I don't understand english very well … Sorry😢
@@yuyam87 No need for a sorry 😀 I don't understand any other languages.
@@No1projects Me too 😂😂😂 But your mind (think?) is very nice for me ☺️ I like your way. 凄く素敵な方です。 もっと直接的に伝えられたら良いのですが、私の技量では難しいです。 …… Sorry, only Japanese…
But the thumb over the blade….i know “the blade is lower”, but metal particles flying free are in my minds eye!
I appreciate what you're saying but it did feel safe and I didn't feel any particles at all . Thanks for the comment 👍 🙂
Cool😎 but why not use one solid piece of wood Instead of plywood
I like the look of ply when it's sanded back to reveal the layers ,I might have a go at a solid piece one day 👍
As a cigar box guitar maker. Those are some very unique ways to do it. Fretting the aluminum neck/fretboard with glue...too cool !!
Thanks , I just enjoy making these instruments but I think it shows I'm just making it up as I go 🙂
Again, I need a laser!
Yeah ya do 🤣
Really nice!
Thanks Les I'm really happy with it 😊
@@No1projects you should be! It is very useful. I need to build a mallet but can't find time nowadays.
I've built a round Mallet, but I'd like to make a regular ish one soon .
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you 😊
@@No1projects 😉
What a beaut! 🤩
Cheers KJ I'm really happy with it 😊
@@No1projects That is a upper class prison shank! 😁
Great video Glenn with some kind of familiar music🤔. Nice touch with the branding
Cheers mate ,yeah I've heard that music somewhere else too 🤣
Awesome dude! Especially the knob lol
Everyone is loving my knob 🤣
Great video and project - that looks super professional! And I love that the knob says "knob" 😁
Thanks kJ , I think I'm gonna label all things obvious from now on 😅
I didn't enjoy this video Glen .... only because it was a stark reminder of how many half arsed storage situations I've got that need attention 😂 great job mate, tidy work, tidy shop !! 🙌
Thanks Sam 👍 🙂
Look at Mr. Malt & Merch! Lookin' good! Really lovely drawer as well :D The Scheppach isn't serving it justice!
Yep should have gone bosch 😅
@@No1projects At least your drill bits are
I do have a problem 😔. I don't have a drill press.
Regular drill ? 🙂
@@No1projects yeah, and jokes apart
There's a homemade drill powered Lathe on my channel too 🙂
Just got a Trail Dulcimer, it has a bootlace for a neck strap. It finally calmed down, and is staying in D A D after Strumstick G D G, and Chanzy F C F. I love the droning effect you can get. As far as effect pedals it flanges perfectly with a reverse delay.
Nice 🙂
really cool!
Thanks 🙂
Seems like a good way to ruin a perfectly-serviceable drill to me ....................... ??
It's still holding up well 👍
Dude, if you do not have the plans for that lathe on your website, you should. I'd pay a little bit for it.
Thanks I just made it up with the scrap I had ,I'm not a planner 🙂
great video, but that background music was all I could stand. Ugh... Im sure that youtube added that little gem for you.
Glad you liked the vid sorry you didn't like the music 👍
Fantastic! I suppose the next step would have to be all aluminum... then you could use it to play heavy metal. 😁
🤣🤣🤣🤣
You metioned you used Plywood for the main body of the box, but what type of wood did you use for the face-plate and how thick was the wood. Was the wood used on the face-plate like plywood in nature of was it solid natrual wood? After all the face-plate makes the main sound of the drums bass tones. It appears to be the most important part of the drum compared to the rest of the body. Was it a hardwood you used or a softwood. Those building Cajon's don't explain the types of wood they use for the face-plate and how thick it needs to be to get the right low bass sound of a bass drum.. Too thin and the wrong type of wood would make poor drums and not giving a low enough bass sound when struck. This is why I am asking. Can you reply back please? Thanks as quality is very important to get the best low sound of a bass drum.
Hey Wayne I used 3mm thick plywood for the face plate ,nothing special just from my local diy store . Because of the thickness I made sure it was well fixed on the edges with plenty of screws . Hope this helps 🙂
@@No1projects Thank you for your reply back.
Nice. Warning wood turning can be addictive 😉😊
Yeah it's great fun 🙂
I feel this video is missing someone in the comments calling you a p"#¤# for not using protective cloves 😂😂
Protective cloves ? 🤣
@@No1projects Gloves, but I'll leave the cloves in...because fuck it! 😂😂
Or I could at least correct it to "Myrtaceae, Syzygium aromaticum" 😅
