This channel is to help people learn to play piano and keyboard. I also produce videos looking at music theory issues (eg demisemiquavers, augmented chords) as well as sharing my thoughts on topics such as beginning piano as an adult. For performances I use standard sheet music books available from sheet music suppliers for videos which simply demonstrate pieces.
You may think that some of these pieces are rather basic (eg Kabalevsky's "Polka" ), but my priorities include covering the precise requirements for exams such as ABRSM and Trinity. I also have a few tutorials which address issues related to progressing onto harder pieces.

Duo Mode video 2 - tutorial on functions 49 to 52
This video progresses from my first video looking at the 'duo mode' function 48 on the Yamaha PSR e373. This video looks at functions 49 to 52 with some demonstrations of what these functions can do for you. For example: the split mode enables the lower half of the keyboard to play one voice (tone - eg piano) and the upper half to play a different tone (eg orchestral strings). The split point can be changed and I should you how.

Keyboards usually have a transpose function which can be really useful and the Casio CTK-601 gives you this. This video explains how to transpose on the CTK-601. I also explain some of the musical theory behind transposition and some reasons why you may need to do so.
Maple Leaf [Scott Joplin] tutorial on Trio section rhythms
Переглядів 332 місяці тому
Scott Joplin's 'Maple Leaf' is one of his most popular piano solos. This video focuses on a tricky poly- rhythm in the trio section, bars 60 and 61. I have used the metronome a lot here and make no excuse for that. By poly-rhythm I mean the resultant combining of left and right rhythms as playing simultaneously as (of course) Joplin intended.

This is the first of two videos demonstrating the 'Duo Mode' on the Yamaha e373. This video focuses on the 048 function with a short demo of four hands actually playing in Duo Mode. The difference between 1) a standard ACMP keyboard performance and 2) duo mode is explained.
Fit as a Fiddle (Piano) Dozen a Day Book 1 page 18
Переглядів 587 місяців тому
From the well-known 'Dozen a Day' for piano, this is 'Fit as a Fiddle' from book 1 page 18. In C major - no change of hand position, but be careful with the rhythms as there quite a few changes of note value in the right hand.

Mozart 'Andante' K15mm {More Classics to Moderns Book 1}
Good afternoon Sir , God and Saviour Jesus Christ Loves You. And I want to Preach to You About Our eternity when we will leave this Life. We will Go either to Heaven or To Hell . We have all sinned and live in sin if we examine our life. And a Person really has fear of Death when our Death is near. And The Bible Says all Sinners will Go to Hell . So How to Get out of Hell ? The Answer is That We have all Sinned and Condemned to Hell and we need The Saviour who can save us from Hell. The Loving God of Universe Became Man and was Born to Virgin Mary and His Name is Jesus. Jesus lived a Perfect Life that we couldn't live . Many people Know Jesus Christ Died on The Cross to save us but they do know what it means. The wages of Sin is Death . And What Jesus Did was that , You and I broke the Law and Jesus Paid the Fine on the CROSS . Means He Took our Death and On Third day Rose from The Death and Says to Everyone and Everywhere To REPENT OF THEIR SINS and BELIVE In Christ Jesus and Get Saved . Sir I love You , But God loves You Infinity More. Humble Yourself to Him and Belive in What He did for You and Be saved from Hell. Our Life is Short in the World but the Gift of God is Eternal Life Through Christ Jesus our God and Saviour. No Other God is there but Only One God , The Triune God of The Bible who can Save You. Repent and Belive in Him. God loves You.
thank you 😊
Great advice actually. Especially as an adult learner myself, using the word easy for something that I find particularly hard really kills my motivation to learn it because I feel like I should be able to do it but can't.
Thanks for your thoughts. Hang in there!

Your instructions are good. But, for elderly people if you could give these instructions in a printable version it would help- immensely.
Thanks for your positive comment - Im delighted to have been a help. Im very busy in the next 2 weeks but I'll see if, eventually, I can produce something and post it on my www- ecclestonpianoteacher.co.uk Meanwhile it may help a bit to slow down the playback speed- find the cogwheel symbol eg top right on the UA-cam screen and look for something like this: ⚙ then choose playback speed and choose 0.75. Best wishes. Graham
Thank you for this video - I would not be able to put it together without it!
My pleasure!
thank you. Which of these four touch sensitivity settings is closest to emulating a piano with weighted keys?
Thanks for your comment. If you try out LOTS of acoustic pianos (upright and grand), as well as good digital pianos (with weighted keys), you will discover that there is an astonishing variety of weightings. So its really difficult to give you an answer! Lighter touch for younger players; heavier for more advanced tends to be an approach. Sorry not to give a straight forward answer! Regards Graham
It's a pity that this can't be recorded e multi-tracking song. even pss a50 has some semblance of multilayer record
Do you mean what I think you mean? You can only record one instrument? There’s no way to layer tracks? Because that’s what it seems like and I’m disappointed.
Excellent tutorial. Thanks!
Very useful. Thank you.
Thank you ❤
You're welcome 😊
Nice video. I'm in the "dont use it" camp. I think that bach wrote for the harpsichord and pipe organ with intent. I believe that the music he wrote was heavily influenced by the instrument it was written for. Bach knew the limitations of the keyboard instruments of his time and thus wrote music to accommodate them. If Bach had a sustain pedal, or a modern piano, I have no doubts he would have used the full capabilities of the instrument, but i think it is somewhat pretentious when people say "We should use pedal in Bach because thats what Bach would have done if he had it" (not that you were saying that - I don't think you were). well yes, of course, but I believe that if bach had a pedal, his music would be different.
Thanks for your thoughts. The debate will go on and on! In certain baroque cases (pieces) the pedal compliments so well I simply cant resist it! Graham
Patience, commitment, determination .......
Very true Graham! Certainly, learning as an adult as opposed to when I was a child, I have developed a lot more patience, which like you say can be helpful when tackling more challenging classical pieces 😅
You've summed it up nicely. I suppose adult pupils benefit from having developed patience throughout life. Kids dont necessarily much patience! It has to be acquired.
where can I get the music sheet?
Hi. If you look at the thumbnail (photo at beginning of the video) you can see a yellow book cover- "Piano Mix bk 1". Published by abrsm. Get book ONE (not 2 or 3). I dont think you can download it (not legally anyway). Regards Graham
Couldn`t get the memory to work on my 373, it keeps asking for the reg no after I`ve given it that info. I like the 373 as it is so easy to operate otherwise, you can get a set-up in there quite quickly, unlike the 473 where you waste so much time having to press the ENTER button about 3 times for every little item you put in there. Btw for the original James Bond, I found Style 1B @ 125 tempo works OK.
Is he acoustic?
I see what you did there
Muy bien to ado para los principiantes, enhorabuena.
Thanks for your encouragement.
Thank you 😊
My daughter does this. However, if they have been working on it their own, could they develop bad habits e.g. with fingering?
Very easily and frequently. But personally Id still encourage them to roam around the repertoire as that may at some point be what keeps them playing piano (or violin, or guitar). The reading of wrong notes/rhythms etc can be tidied up over time. Sometimes wrong notes/rhythms dont even get tidied up with pieces being worked WITH the teacher! We can lead a horse to water but cant force it to drink... Good observation though Rob!
Very interesting. Never knew what all those chord charts were above the keys. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much! I got this keyboard for Christmas and couldn't figure out how to record multiple tracks and merge them together. This helped a lot. Keep up the great work!
Thank you. Stats for this particular video have been a bit disappointing so its good to hear that it's helped someone. Graham
Loving these shorts, Graham
Thanks for your encouragement. They are relatively easy and certainly quick to produce.
Hope you're well, Graham. When ever Robert asks me how [insert name of footballer/musician/singer] is so good, the answer is always the same - practice! Thankfully I think it's finally seeping in!
Thanks David for your comment. With many skills I think there is always a set of considerations: eg a good footballer is usually very fit, to some extent a team player (ie remembers they are part of a team and should remember to pass the ball!) and has good eyesight! My penny's worth....Happy Easter when it comes..
Definitely a life skill and commitment! But a great one nonetheless😊
Glad you agree! Hope your studies are going well.
Thank you!!!! It was proving impossible to find out how to view the chord I am playing on my e373 and the manual and google searches were all useless.
Hi! Would you consider posting a video of this book’s version of Rather Be by Clean Bandit?
Hi. I'll see what I can do next week- am really busy this week. Graham
Thank you so much! That would be amazing!
Finalmente ho capito ❤😂😂😂 grazie grazie wow...
Grazie grazie
Thanks for isolating the harmony function, as its very important for my abilities on the keyboard. You are I think, the only one who gives a very good demo of this.
Happy to help!
I need help setting up and recalling the 9 memory buttons.
good video. what kind of classical pieces that I can play on this keyboard as it has only 61 keys
Thanks for your comment. Most Baroque keyboard music eg all of Bach's music (eg 48 preludes & Fugues but they may be too tricky); generally speaking most pieces in the "Classics to Moderns" series for piano up to book 3 and probably some in bks 4, 5 and 6 as well. These books are available on Ebay and Amazon: usually reasonably priced. Regards Graham
A casual glance at this piece suggests that it should go in a moving four but then when you see all this small notes you realise that actually a measured 8 is the only plausible speed! Rhythmic intricacies of the music of this period are quite extraordinary
Agreed. Thanks for your thoughts.
very well explained - thank you.

I can agree and i dont think parents should say sth like that, because the student should play for himself/herself or the student should say for themselves who they want to “entertain”. Thats my opinion as a student😊

Totally agree!
How to activate single finger or multi finger chording? When I am activating ACMP on and playing a single finger key, it is giving 3 tunes at a time instead of single tune. Pls help.
Hi. Ive not forgotten about your comment - just been really busy lately. Regards, Graham
Nice one! Thank you
Thank you too!
Tnks i guess i can set up to maybe 9 Registrations????? Tnk you quick and easy....
Yes - nine in total [at least for the e373]. But you can of course overwrite and refresh any number of these settings, but you still can only have a maximum of nine. Graham
