Lisa McHugh spearheaded the Irish-and-country renaissance of the 2010s alongside artists like Nathan Carter and Derek Ryan. With its twee and fusty image, homegrown Celtic country music had long been the preserve of an older generation of Scots and Irish, but these sexy young stars rejuvenated the genre and brought it back into the charts. Born in Glasgow, Scotland to Irish parents and brought up in the small village of Carmunnock on the outskirts of the city, McHugh grew up on her parents' beloved country music and soon became a fan herself. Childhood trips to Ireland cemented her love of the genre and she continued to follow it into her teens. A keen singer, she learned to play guitar and studied music at school.

It was a time when I only listened to country until one day it was over because I returned to Germany where Country Music does not exists. Now I figured that Ireland has also beautiful "gals" with a wonderful voices like you have Lisa. I was stunned when I by accident I stumbled over your Hillbilly Girl on UA-cam. Not a bad version, but whoever did the video way too many shots of her face held for way too long. They don't follow the natural flow of the song with their edits. That's the Hallmark of any good country music video. Is to use the beat transitions for for a shot transition.

still feel the same.. my mother passed away a few months ago.... she would have been 90 yo back a few weeks ago..... another missing link with that time so it's more important for me to hear this song again and again .. I can smell the fried potatoes and corn bread in the oven as my dad entered the door fresh from work .. he would quickly switch the channel and this song would instantly put a smile on his face as he went to wash off his hands and towel off the grime of work before joining us at the table to eat.... some day I will join mom and Dad and I am sure this song will be there with us....
