I too left AK...Oct 2, 1977..crossed my Harley with old Army truck converted to fire truck tanker. Broke both legs and left arm and some internal injuries plus temporary kidney shut down due to shock. Am in the process of going through the motions between doctor, prosthetics and insurance to get authorization for socket-less socket.

This is all that I’m suffering right now I can’t ride the bike or anything anymore because of the suction being lost

I love these sockets, I’m on my second one! Very comfortable and takes the abuse of an active lifestyle.

Are these a first socket option, or do I have to start with a rigid socket? I have to have an aka in July and I'm looking at options. I can travel for fitting when the time comes.

I have to have an aka, due to a horrible failed hip replacement. I know it will be months before i can reasonably expect a prosthetic fitting. I was wondering if this socket is a possibility for a first socket or if i have to start with a rigid one. I would even be willing to travel as i have family almost everywhere.

This socket sounds amazing. I live in Canada and haven't seen anything like this before. I love the idea as well that it fits in such a way that it helps improve the blood circulation et. I am also guessing that there is a lot less fatigue at the end of the day. Any recommendations for us folks up here in Canada. I am AK, pretty short stump, and an artery bypass was performed due to the artery being severely damaged in a motorcycle accident, so circulation is a thing for me.❤ Andrew

Finally some hope. After 60 years of wearing AK sockets a change for the good?

Unfortunately I have subpar insurance and I can’t work since my amputation. This rigid socket I wear is extremely uncomfortable and leaves welts on my skin. If I could get something like this out of pocket, how much would it cost me?

I was taught to use the good leg goin up stairs. Bad leg going down? Is it just the advance leg you have over my K2 leg? I am a RAKA as of 05/08/2023. Thanks.

I am a 59 year old male left leg trauma hemipelvectomy amputee living here in New Zealand. My prosthesis has a sort of a 'modified New Zealand Martin bikini style socket'. However it definitely wasn't made in/with the suspended fabric hammock. Plus it never had the mesh. Your video narrator asks "Imagine the comfort of sitting into a hammock v a hard shell" - OH YES please! I can certainly see how the hammock design would distribute the load more evenly across the broader surface area thereby reducing point pressures [incidentally those point pressures are exactly what I am experiencing at present in the hard socket shell of my prosthesis] and eliminating the need for ischial specific loading. I am not a practitioner HOWEVER I would definitely like my Prosthetists to see this hammock style Martin Bikini socket. Does Martin Bionics know of any New Zealand Prosthetists OR even Australian Prosthetists who could be trained to fit this revolutionary socket for hip disartic/hindquarter & hemipelvectomy amputees like myself?

I am a new amputee and to retire from LE due to right below knee amputation and was non weight bearing due to loss of 3 toes on left socket. I had tp have the socket recast before i could even start walking. I had to take early retirement and I am so sick of sitting around putting on weight. I need to get back to walking my dog hiking jeeping kayaking and shooting. I am currently with with Hangers, when I asked why there wasn't something like this I was told it wasn't possible! I am moving to Nashville Tn area soon. I have Anthem blue cross thru the state and honorable discharge from the Army so probably qualified for VA?

Where can I go in Pennsylvania and Maryland to get one of these I just started my journey with prosthetics and I hate my socket so much! Why did I not know about this sooner. This is what I imagined in my dreams!

I would do almost anything to get this socket. I’ve been trying for 2 years (since I became an amputee from a motorcycle accident) I feel like this is the only way to get my life back….

My doctor just took the cast for this new style socket. He didn’t use the two straps for the contour of the socket. Is it still going to fit and work as good as it should. Little nervous he doesn’t know what he is doing.

my stepdad is a double amputee BK 5 years in. hes been having problems with the nub and bone, the doctors hacked it and wont fix it by rounding the bone, last 2-3 years the PT have made multiple sockets and have tried many different kinds of pads at the bottom of the socket where the bone sits and all the pressure an pain comes from, but nothing is helping.. we are located in maine
