Time sure flies fast!
It's already been half a year since I put up the first installment of the Trains of Sweden series with the SJ Rc6. Since then, I've been busy standing watch on train stations all around the country trying to bring you a new dose of the locomotive we love so much! Here is part 2 of the SJ Rc6 lovefest that is this compilation! Enjoy!
About the locomotive
The SJ Rc6 is the Swedish Railways' main and only locomotive in traffic, it is the final installment in ASEA's storied Rc-series. This line, which started in 1967 with the Rc 1007, laid the foundation for a solid and reliable engine not only in Sweden, but also in many other countries around the world.
Engines were sold to Austria (ÖBB Class 1043), Norway (a modified Rc4 became the NSB El 16), and even Iran (which still operates 8 units of the Rc4). Aftera peroiod of trials in the United Status in 1976-1977, the Rc4 was chosen as the foundational design for the EMD AEM-7, which is regarded as one of the most reliable engines in Amtrak's history.
Currently, SJ operates a total of 74 units of the Rc6, with Vy operating another 13 for the night trains to Northern Sweden.
The videos are filmed across different stations in Sweden, although mostly concentrated around Stockholm. The videos are filmed in the period of January 2023 - May 2024. Expect an update on the series towards the end of the year.
