Pescara Grand Prix 1957 WIP Preview Assetto Corsa
One tamely driven preview lap of the infamous 25.6km circuit in Abruzzo, Italy, the longest circuit ever to have hosted a Formula 1 Grand Prix - the fastest laps taking 9 minutes and 44 seconds, achieved both by Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss. The drivers were firmly divided over their opinions of the dangerous circuit, which was poorly surfaced, bumpy, lined by trees and houses, and barely over 6 metres wide in places. But for some, such as Moss, it was the essence of what motor racing should be.
The circuit will be released soon as a payware mod pack including versions for AC and AMS1 at
italotracks.sellfy.store/
Still work to do regarding textures, CSP features and cameras amongst other things so the final product will look a bit different. Release will be very soon however, after 3+ years and over 3500 hours of development!

    Imagine trying to have a sports car 12 hour or 1957 era Grand Prix sim race around this. Other than the long straights I can’t see any overtaking spots.

    Sono a Montesilvano in ferie e ho fatto per diletto un paio di volte il giro sulla mia Renol Scenic. Complimenti davvero, quando vedevo il video mi ricordavo perfettamente tutte le curve e alcuni edifici storici come quello del curvone di Montesilvano che immette sul rettilineo principale, per non parlare della cattedrale di Spoltore, riprodotta alla perfezione. Per la cronaca ho girato in 9 minuti, 39 secondi, quindi ho battuto il record di Fangio che resisteva da 67 anni.

    I miei più sinceri complimenti per questo progetto, sono nato sulla collina che si vede sulla destra intorno a 2:45 e da anni abito in un condominio proprio su Via del Circuito (1:35 o giù di lì, all'epoca non esisteva) ed è stato bellissimo vedere la macchina sfrecciare su strade che percorro da oltre 30 anni e soprattutto vedere come si è evoluto il percorso negli anni... Il tratto Spoltore - Cappelle è rimasto praticamente identico, è mi è piaciuto riconoscere ogni singola curva, pendenza, ecc. mentre altri tratti (specialmente tra Pescara e Montesilvano) effettivamente ho fatto un po' fatica a replicare a mente la guida. In ogni caso complimenti ancora e non vedo l'ora che sia possibile acquistare il circuito definitivo.

    I also commented in your thread on RD/OT. Wonderful job with this, particularly since we've never had anything even close to it before. I'm sure getting the texturing better sorted will only improve the immersion. There are a few things I'm perhaps a tad confused about due to some things I've read, but, that said, I know you know the territory far better than I do. I'm looking forward to the continued improvements, and then, whatever your next project happens to be. I certainly do understand wanting to take in something less involved next, just to dial things back a bit and refresh. I mentioned various other circuits in my other reply (Montenero, Lobethal, Gavea). I'm kind of curious how broad your swathe of supporting material is, as finding info on these tracks and races can be difficult, to say the least, just in general. You may well already be familiar with this one, but I use this site quite a bit for reference: www.goldenera.fi/

    • @italotracks2277
      @italotracks2277 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for your comment, I'm happy to answer any questions you might have to clear up any confusion. Regarding supporting materials, well fortunately the projects I have chosen thus far, and ones I hope to work on in future, all have pretty much the same road layout as back then, with publically available LiDAR data and in some cases high res photogrammetry data to accurately gauge road widths etc. Comparing the Pescara layout of the 1957 edition with the roads now, you can see that but for a roundabout or two, the roads are pretty much as they were 70 years ago. Bear in mind however that it isn't the case for the pre war variant. (And I'm not willing to guess how turn 3 was, or exactly how the chicanes were, so I'm not making it.) For Pescara I visited the track, recorded a lap driven in a hire car, took reference photos, and have relied heavily on photos provided to me by an extremely helpful local historian that aren't found on the internet. The photographers of the day did a poor job of covering the track, so in terms of coverage, maybe 20% is photographed. But using some architectural intuition and photo analysis, I have made reasonable (I think) assumptions as to which buildings were present back then, and which are a result of rapid urbanisation from the 1960s onwards, with large concrete apartment blocks springing up in place of older, beautiful individual houses. I have made 470 of the things, it was a question of how far away from the track I wanted to go, because doing all the buildings in side streets etc, would probably mean doubling that tally at least, and the track not being released for another two years, if at all. As I said, any questions, fire away, and I'll do my best to answer..

      I'll admit, in the back of my mind, one thing I was trying to do was sort out just where Guy Moll's incident occurred in 1934. One of my other thoughts, I think you probably kind of answered already. That is, I thought the buildings in town were a tad sparse in places, but if those are the spots where the apartment blocks went in, that makes rather more sense. I'm guessing, in general, the towns were better covered by the period photos than many of the more outlying areas. So, does it seem like Turn 3 really changed that much from before to after the War? Do we at least know basically where around the lap the 1930s chicanes were? Aside from the block chicane before the pits that was added for 1934, it seems like the others were most probably added for 1936, at least going by the lap times and average speeds. And I've seen a few video clips online that appear to show at least one of them from the 1937 race. And yes, I've had a bit of a discussion with LilSki, and he had a very similar reasoning for not doing Stardust, after all the work he had to do to make Riverside. Thankfully, Sergio Loro has covered Stardust since then. So, are you looking at doing some more buildings closer in, and then maybe some 2D stuff farther away, to make things appear more filled out? Just a curiosity, but have you had any contact with/from Fat-Alfie/David Pemberton and/or Sergio Loro with regard to Circuito Stradale del Mugello? In any case, that one seems like a project of a scale that would just about have to be a collaboration to ever get done, whoever might end up doing it.

      @@Villoresi Hi, thanks for your questions! I will answer your layout queries over at Race Department where I can link pictures etc to show you the differences, but basically the pre war version is out of the question for me because there are too many unknowns, and the roads where T3 followed are no longer there. In the Last Road Race book, it says that Pescara emerged unscathed from the war - not so! In fact, the best reference photos I have are shot from a bomber that's in the middle of pummeling the station area and Montesilvano, with falling bombs in the foreground. Regarding the chicanes, and additional buildings, and basically the Coppa Acerbo in general... yes I have a general idea of one of the chicanes, there is brief video of it and I have been given a photo, but the second one, although I know where it was, I don't know how exactly it was. I can't include one without the other and it would be very much guesswork. (How far did it deviate, radius of corner, how much braking was necessary, none of which will ever be known sadly.) The same applies to padding out the track/city with extra buildings close by, since this video I have added a few more that I had reference photos for, but again, I'd rather refrain from spending a lot of time on guesswork nearby buildings, (and which I'd have to go into detail for) when I have spent aeons on modelling the real ones. If I work outwards from the track and do buildings in side streets (occluded most likely, and being passed at 100+mph) that'd add on a lot of dev time, keep everyone waiting another year or more, and in my opinion, be pretty pointless. Regarding Mugello, I haven't had any contact with David or Sergio on the matter. They are both phenomenal artists and if they were to team up on Mugello (perhaps they already have, I have no idea) then I'm sure it will be fabulous. When I have time I will post over at Race Department, again, thanks for your interest! 😊

      @@italotracks2277 I've been a bit sidetracked, but I saw your response over on RD, so i'll give that another look here, and probably have a couple questions to pose there. I think I have 2 main, remaining questions that can probably be covered just fine here: 1. How much length did the block chicane before the pits add to the lap? 2. Going back to your research, had you considered doing any circuits outside of Italy? Just thinking of those sort of quintessential, tight Italian street circuits, you also had things like Angouleme and Antibes in France. If you're going more open, but still quite sinuous, then something like Vila Real in Portugal or Opatija in Croatia (formerly Abbazia in Italy) come to mind. Thanks for the info. I was just wondering with the buildings and such. Honestly, given my (lack of) eyesight), I'm probably less likely to notice the emptier side streets than others might be.

Dato che per diletto organizzo campionati storici con il simulatore Assetto Corsa , sarei interessato ad utilizzarlo ( con anche il tuo circuito di Napoli) nella prima edizione della mille miglia virtuale .
