Northern Backroad Biker
United Kingdom
Приєднався 27 вер 2012
The channel is to showcase great motorcycle roads - offering fantastic rides and views, on any bike, at any speed and in any direction. It's not about ratings, likes or the author - just a collection of great rides across North Yorkshire, Durham Dales, Pennines, Northumberland and the Lake District.
Motorcycle ride - The Northern Pennines, Kielder and Northumberland
This ride takes in Weardale, Hartside pass, Brampton, Bellingham, Kielder, Jedburgh, Coldstream, Berwick, Lindisfarne causeway, Bamburgh and Seahouses. The routes are scenic, quiet with plenty of areas to explore - and of course, on great Motorcycle roads.

Yorkshire Motorcycle ride - Leyburn to Grassington (via Masham, Ripon and Pately Bridge)
Переглядів 1,6 тис.Рік тому
This ride takes us along relatively major roads by Yorkshire standards - smooth and sweeping bends with plenty of visibility to view the fantastic Yorkshire countryside - and a great route into the heart of Yorkshire with plenty of interesting stops along the way. Leyburn to Ripon skims the hills of the Pennines and so you get great views across lush open farmland with hilly backdrops. It's har...
Great motorcycle roads - Teesdale (Barnard Castle to Alston)

This ride starts near Barnard Castle and follows the river Tees up the valley to Middleton-in-Teesdale across the Pennines and onto Alston (B6282 & B6277). There are several short walks to both tranquil and impressive waterfalls. Summerhill Force has a nearby car park and cafe and only short walk to a suspension bridge across the River Tees. This single person foot bridge offers great views acr...

Hartside Pass - pure riding enjoyment
Переглядів 3,1 тис.2 роки тому
The most talked about passes in Northern England include Hardnott, Winlatter, Honister, Kirkstone, Buttertubs - all of which deserve a trip on their own but for pure riding & driving pleasure, none can compare with Hartside pass near Alston Whilst the hill top cafe no longer exists, it remains a popular meeting spot for all road enthusiasts ... and for a very good reason. You will enjoy either ...
Motorcycle ride through the Yorkshire Dales - Grassington to Kettlewell to Hawes

This rides starts in Grassington village and follows the river Wharf along Wharfdale and Deepdale, over to Wensleydale and Hawes. This ride is characterised by narrow roads, picturesque villages and scenic views. There isnt a bad road into or out of Hawes and this one is no exception. The road dropping towards Gayle and Hawes boasts one of my favourite views. Grassington scarecrow festival and ...
Motorcycle ride - Masham to Pately Bridge via Leighton Reservoir
Переглядів 3022 роки тому
This is a great ride with a varied landscape passing reservoirs and sleepy Yorkshire villages along the way. Roads are narrow, tight blind corners and a lot of gravel and so take care - especially after heavy rainfall. Stick with it and you will be rewarded with arguably one of the best views Yorkshire has to offer and if your timing is good, you will witness the spectacle of a purple flowered ...
North Yorkshire and Pennines summer evening rides

Motorcycle ride - lake district. 7 lakes, 1 pass, 1 waterfall and 1 struggle
Переглядів 4562 роки тому
Today's mid-week ride is to the lake district. We'll be riding alongside lake Ullswater, Aira Force, up Kirkstone Pass before reaching Ambleside via 'the struggle'. From here we head towards Rydal, Grasmere, Thirlmere and Keswick and end our ride at the Castlerig stone circle.

Video clips showing road types from Corbridge to West Woodburn (A68), Bellingham to Lanehead, Kielder to Newcastleton (shilling pot road) and we touch on the Scottish borders to Canonbie (B6357) Great roads whatever the bike with plenty of stops in the area for short detours.
Motorcycle ride - North Yorkshire. Scarborough, Helmsley, Stokesley
Переглядів 3 тис.2 роки тому
This ride starts at Whitby and takes the B1416 to Ruswarp and onto Scarborough. After a quick "coffee 'n cake" stop in Scarborough, we continue along busy A170 through Thornton-Le-Dale, Pickering, Kirbymoorside and Beadlam and onto the popular biker meet at Helmsley. From here we leave the A170 and travel the glorious B1257 "Yorkshire TT" to Stokesley - one of North Yorkshire's best riding roads
Durham and Darlington Easter Egg Run 2022
Переглядів 4342 роки тому
It was great to see North East bikers and public return to support 2022 Durham Easter Egg run following the Pandemic induced two years absence. Over 800 bikes of all makes, models and ages - from restorations, trikes, bobbers, café racers, sports, touring, naked, super moto, custom, monkey bikes and even the odd scooter. The route was lined with well over 1000 cheering supporters covering all a...

#greatmotorcycleroads #scenicdrivingroads #lakedistrict #ridealong On any given day, whether driving or riding, this is in my top 2 lakeland routes but on a clear day, it has to be 2 wheels. This route has grown in popularity and so you need to get up early to enjoy this traffic free but the views are stunning and so you don't really mind the slow pace. #greatmotorcycleroads #scenicdrivingroads #lakedistrict #ridealong A short picturesque and heavily wooded lakeland pass. Take care on the uphill section as there are often cyclists taking advantage of the steep descent and underestimating the corners. The visitors centre offers relaxing stopover for a cuppa and a sandwich in very pleasant surroundings - but isn't the cheapest parking around. Al...

Great video, probably the best stretch of road in England. But don’t stop at the car park, carry on and enjoy the fast blast down towards Alston, then on to the Slaggyford road for The Nook cafe just a couple of miles on.
Totally agree
Some of my favorite routes for sure good to see from someone else’s perspective and being fully compliant with speed limits too 🤔
Camera makes it appear faster than it was
Do you ever Slow Down where the Signs demand Slow Down... ??
Signs indicate a hazard and so yes, unless I can clearly see the way ahead is clear and safe for the speed and stopping distance for the conditions of the day
Thanks for this. Plan to do a tour up north this year.😎
Thanks. Theres plenty more northern roads on this channel.
@@northernbackroadbiker I'll be checking them out , cheers
Great video , just what I was looking for , planning a trip up here next may 👍
Pleased you enjoyed it
Was you just warming tyres up or running a new bike in,steady away
Part of a long day in the saddle with a friend. If you notice, I spent half my time dodging oil and the other dodging cyclists but the biggest risk on this road is motorists messing up corners 🤣
Love Hartside. Agree completely an absolutely phenomenal road. Just wondering what equipment you used to film the video stunning quality...?
Just gopro here 7 black slapped to front of the bike. Trick is to use image stabilisation at max resolution... and a sunny day helps 🤣
10:08..It's the river Wear at Stanhope..the Tees is the next dale over where you are heading to at Middleton.
So true 👍
Worth having a look at the Hartside Heroes UA-cam channel. Lots of bikes come croppers on the final bend (6 minutes). And there was a flying Audi seen recently 😂. Great shame the cafe at the top burnt down. Yet to do it on my Lambretta!
Ive een hartside heroes channel and even starred in it 🤣. I've also seen a few accidents on hartside, so I tend keep one eye on other riders/drivers in case they're pushing beyond their limit. Good news is the cafe is returning - let's hope it captures the soul of the old cafe.
@@northernbackroadbiker I didn’t know the cafe was coming back - great news. I live in Whitley Bay, so it’s a great ride across.
What bike are you on? sounds like it could be a triple.
S1000r. Sounds much better in real life 🤣
Around 4 miles of the best biking road imaginable, i personally prefer going up from penrith side, can hit the corners a little harder when gravity is helping. I live around 30 miles from it and look forward to the challenge 3 or 4 times a year ( weather permitting) when i visit the lake district.
I like both directions for different reasons. For speed, definately up hill but going down has flowing bends with great views
Thoroughly enjoyed that! Regularly down that way from Central Scotland. Fantastic area for bikes👍
Pleased you enjoyed it !
One of my favourite roads. Looking forward to taking the Speed 400 on it soon.
Hope you get the weather for the views
yea been here about a month ago was excellent experience definitely going again
Once ridden, never forgot. Definately one of my favourites 👍
Thank you for the super vid and hope to see more of the roads I ride most weekends, you've given me an incentive to get the GoPro out from the back of the drawer and do a little vlogging. Thanks again 👍
My pleasure. Look forward to seeing your vids!
@@northernbackroadbiker I have a couple up now but not to your standards. I find it always better to view peoples vids in full screen HD. Hope to see you out and about, maybe ride out sometime.. 👍
Nice footage with sound advice for the unwary.
Pleased you enjoyed it.
Thanks so much for this. So thrilled to find it .I have subscribed. My late partner and l used to drive this route. I also love the view after going over the top like a rollercoaster. I don't drive due to sight issues so haven't been in over for years. I will be able to follow all his old be routes now he used to ride his motorbikes on all on the dales back roads that his Dad cycled in 40/ 50 s . Glad too see they all still being enjoyed.
So very pleased you enjoyed it. I started this channel purely to share routes and scenery for those who may not have visited the area and never thought I would recieve so many positive comments from those reliving drives and rides from the past. Very much makes it worthwhile 🙂
great riding vid. done it myself for the first time on 30/03/24. Great weather and i was buzzing. When we came back up, we said......lets do it again. hahaha. What a thrill. Beauty and thrills not to far away.
Pleased you enjoyed the vid
Great video thanks. Went up there in my 6mtr campervan last week and when I got to the bridge with the yurts I turned back and went off the other way for miles. Lost my phone signal and turned back and tackled the hill which was actually ok. On my own so worried about getting stuck😂 loved the Tan Hill
Always eventful in these areas. Pleased you enjoyed your trip and the video.
Excellent video. Thanks for uploading. That section of road is in my top 3 (which changes all the time). Other good roads in same area are Brough to Middleton-in-Teesdale, Middleton-in-Teesdale to Alston (either direction) and A6 from Penrith to Shap.
Fully agree - so many to choose from ! Hartside from either direction is great and always on my favourite route list.
Get yourself to North Wales....and not the main Rossi wannabee roads!
Nice video, awesome roads by the looks of it
Great and surprisingly doesnt get promoted much. If you ride, visit the area and see for yourself.
Thanks for this. I have subscribed. my late partner and l used to drive this route l loved the descent it's the best view ..like a roller coaster. I haven't been over in years as l don't drive due to sight issues. I will be able to catch up with all his old routes now. 😍
Was up there last year in similar weather, fantastic place 👍
Fully agree
Any cameras or speed traps on this road?
Havent seen any fixed cameras and dont ride it enough to know if mobile cameras are common and it's been a while since last ride
love your videos, but please no music.
Only added some background music when first editing - latest vids its just bike and wind to showcase fantastic roads we have in morth
Brilliant video. Did it on Friday in my MX5…. Bliss
Great roads and scenery in or on any vehicle. Pleased you enjoyed it.
Enjoyed watching your adventure
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video IAM very lucky living near the dales, subbed cheers
Totally agree. If you like driving or riding, you're spoilt for choice 'up north'. Pleased you enjoyed it.
Know the route well. Often do it from Malton, through to Alson, Penrith and home. Roads are awesome, mostly empty of traffic and views sublime. We are so spoilt up north. I watch riders in the south on youtube and the traffic they have to deal with. Here you can really ride uninterrupted. 👍
Totally agree ! The whole area is littered with great roads and fantastic views, all wrapped up in a days ride. Be safe out there.
great video
Pleased you liked it. Stunning views and great road for drivers of all kinds !
So that is anti-clockwise direction ..
Yes. I've tried both ways and sometimes via Newlands valley. All are good but prefer both road and views this direction.
Great video, and thanks for bringing back memories of this exact route! I rode a pedal cycle the opposite way from Hawes, back in 1966. Tough climb up through Gayle, with only 5 gears! Great downhill into Wharfedale though .
There are so many memorable scenic views in the area and for me, looking down towards Gayle from the hilltop is one of my favourites. I'm pleased you enjoyed the video.
your subbed son,another great video.
Not sure what 'subbed' means but pleased you enjoyed the vids.
@@northernbackroadbiker you are on the list.
Doh - of course 🙄
nice one son,stay safe.
You too
Just back from a week in the Dales and missing those roads and the beautiful countryside and views. Stayed at Kirkby Malham. Went into Grassington and had dinner at The Foresters Arms, amazing, and such a picturesque village. Went to Hawes and onto Buttertubs Pass, climbed to the Tan Hill Inn, then down the other side, and back to Kirkby Malham, fabulous days driving. Love the Dales so much.
Pleased you enjoyed your stay in the area. Northern England offers so many great roads and scenery ... and friendly locals 🤣
Can you do this again in a car at a slower speed ? Can't enjoy the beautiful scenery.
That could be a very long video as the whole area is beautiful - best enjoyed in person if you ever get the chance
great vid some fantastic roads and will be doing them all from 12th august for a week . got a small cottage booked for me an 2 mates .
Thanks and Enjoy your holiday !
Great ride mate, thanks. 😎👍
Im pleased you enjoyed it.
One of my favourite roads in the area
I couldnt agree more. Great views, nice flowing bends and even in summer has very little traffic.
costs a few quid now motorcycling , for more than one day a week. stay safe .
I agree. For now it's still worth the extra cost as Riding as for me, its medicine for the soul. Costs do seem to be going up quickly and must be really difficult for some - especially younger generation wanting to get onto bikes
@@northernbackroadbiker motorcycling is quickly dying with the younger generation, having to do a a2 test just to have to do the exact same test a few years later is just a big no imo, friend done his full license and passed theory and mod 1 first time mod 2 third and was 1900.00 in total, disgusting
Lawmakers don't seem to understand that costly training doesnt necessarily equate to safer riding. Training is essential to a point after which experience is by far the best teacher. You can't buy competence
Nice. Great turnout.
Great turn out and great atmosphere.
nice bit of footage pal
Great roads and scenery and so difficult to take a bad video on a sunny day. Pleased you enjoyed it
Does anyone know what the red sign with the brake symbol on the railing left-most in the video @1:03 is supposed to indicate? Hello from New Brunswick Canada.
It is a box with a live preserver/jacket in it, you're welcome.

Enjoyed that 👍. What camera did you use?
Pleased you enjoyed it. I used a Gopro hero 7 black using image stabilisation @2.7k res and 60 fps. Uploading to youtube usually only hd due to low upload home bandwidth
Lovely scenes. Great video
Thanks, pleased you enjoyed it 👍
Great video, but had to mute the music. I would much rather have a natural soundtrack, particularly of the bike engine. In fairness it's not just you, for some reason many bike vloggers seem to think we all want rock music...we don't.
Pleased you enjoyed it. Music was initially added to hide wind noise on some vids but will post next ones without as I agree, royalty free music can be annoying.
@@northernbackroadbiker Bike noise can be great, but Harley noise is annoying.
@@TheBioniXman You're just being silly.
Some lovely looking places, love the east coast, we try and visit the coast at least once a year from where we live ( Peak District) I’ll get on google maps now and look up those places👌😁👍🏼
The coast is a beautiful area and there are many small villages to visit. May get really busy in the summer and so I tend to head inland. Theres equally scenic and interesting villages hidden in the valleys over the Yorkshire moorland area.
Looks like a nice ride out. Stay safe guys and girls 👍
