Vintage Bendix Automatic Washer Restoration Part 1
Video of a newly acquired 1941 Bendix "Deluxe" automatic washer in the process of restoration. This video shows the machine going through its paces with the external bodywork removed. The timer doesn't advance so the various cycle selections are made by hand.
The tub to pump drain hose and the coin trap gasket have already been renewed. The door seal and the pump to drain hose connector are still leaking and will be addressed later.

Mom had a Philco-Bendix washer-dryer for over 10 years. It ate spin solenoids. She ran fabric softener on every load, and eventually the build up of softener inside the machine ruined the dryer side of the machine. Other than solenoids galore, it ran like no other, and until the dryer failure, was used every day. She bought it in 1961.

It is mechanical timer so you can turn it while washing if you want but it is automatic still... Google it if this does not clear your thinking

yo tenia una en argentina, muy buena, duro muchos muchos años, y al final el tanque se corto de atras del eje y ya fue imposible repararla, pero tengo muchos repuestos que me quedaron y sirven para otros usos.

Why are all of these old washing machine videos made Early 21st century?

I'm trying to remember - were the Bendix machines the first fully automatic washers? That spun the washed stuff from being soaked to just damp, so they didn't have to be put through a wringer?

Does the motor have two speeds, one for spinning? No transmission, then?

They had a transmission. Some had three speeds- Wash, spin and high speed spin ( extraction )..
