I think it is just a matter of courtesy to do it and not something you have to do. I would give up my seat for a pregnant lady no matter how tired I am but i would do that for an old man or a differently abled person as well. I would offer it to a fellow person if he does look visibly uncomfortable standing. It has nothing to do with gender or anything. It is just that some person is in a more uncomfortable position and they probably would need the seat more than me. So that is what my criteria is.
