      It does! In this case it’s just the “Enstrom wobble.” At high rpms while on the ground in the enstroms they start rocking on the struts. It looks just like ground resonance, however nothing is flying apart.

    • @greatbritishscarface7464
      @greatbritishscarface7464 8 місяців тому

      @@hondo500e But I think to stop ground resonance, you should immediately close the throttle, and to avoid ground resonance, there should not be one skid/wheel on the ground at a time, am I right?

    • @hondo500e
      @hondo500e 8 місяців тому

      @@greatbritishscarface7464 Yep. If you’re on the ground and it starts happening you can either pick up into a hover if you have the power, because once you get airborne it fixes itself. Then if you don’t have the power, roll off power completely and my instructor said get the blades stopped ASAP. I watched a pilot unintentionally slam an Astar down while trying to land on a cart, it got into ground resonance so he just picked up again and it equaled itself out.

    Too high initial RPM on engine start. Should be lower than your 2000rpm. I can see the oil and cht were cold. You could increase the engine lifetime by not exceeding 1200rpm on cold start.

    • @hondo500e
      @hondo500e 10 місяців тому

      Yeah I agree with ya. We had a mechanic that rigged it that way where the RPM sat up at 2100RPM with the engine running and the clutch not engaged. It since then has been fixed and it sits way lower than 2000 RPM now. Also using a new mechanic now so that always helps.

      Enstroms are a little bit different airframes. The blades will freewheel once we fire up. But they don’t get up to idle speed until the clutch is engaged. The Enstrom pistons have a manual clutch, a handle that you have to pull up and into a lock to engage.

  • @Keaton0801
    @Keaton0801 Рік тому

    FYI, that’s not a Bell 212. That is actually a retired UH-1N. It was sold as military surplus for the civilian market. Looks like they use it as either a lifter, or a firefighting helicopter. You can tell by the exhaust port on the back, just underneath the Main Rotor. The Bell 212 Twin Huey has 2 engines, hence the name Twin Huey. The helicopter in the video has only one engine, thus making it a UH-1N. No Bell 212, civilian from the factory, with only one engine, was ever made.

    • @hondo500e
      @hondo500e Рік тому

      Actually it’s a 212 Single Eagle which once was a 212 twin, but has gone through the conversion process. It’s not uncommon for this conversion, I’ve been told. But you are correct no single engine 212 has been sold from Bell. Some one spent a pretty penny converting this machine. Thank you for watching.

  • @Vicarium
    @Vicarium Рік тому

    Question: Is power limited by max MP since there doesn't appear to be a torque gauge? Also, is the engine rpm set into the green arc and left there, or do you need constant throttle adjustments to keep up with collective demands? Sorry if the questions don't make any sense, and I'm probably not wording them correctly...clueless about helicopters

    • @ticenits1926
      @ticenits1926 Рік тому

      Enstrom do not use a governor so manual throttle is required, however you can upgrade to a correlator which will twist the throttle for you when raising/lowering the collective which is the next best thing to a governor, requiring only minor adjustments in flight
