In this video you will see a Random Ranking. Random Rankings are impromptu movie reviews in a sense. I go to my movie collection and pick out 3 movies at random and then rank them based on a variety of criteria - nostalgia, craft, story, actors, directors, genre, favorite, best, form, etc. Personally I find this project interesting because the movies chosen rarely have much in common, so the systems I use for ranking is always in flux.
But I’m also curious how you would rank these movies based on your own criteria. Have you seen these movies, and if so, what did you think of them? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to talk movies with you!

K Pax. Seen but can’t recall a damn thing. Going in honestly thought Crow would be No1
@@ajsmovieplace I think because I was late to the crow, it doesn’t quite have the nostalgia factor for me.
Another amazing collection video, Derek! You always deliver!
@@davidhollingsworth4665 thank you so much, David!
Haha man I was not a fan of Number 23 either. I saw it once in theaters and was very disappointed with it. I also really loved the new Vacation movie and laughed out loud... a lot! Great video man!
@@dudewholovesmovies haha, I always hate trashing a Carrey film, but that’s a tough movie to love. Yeah man, Vacation was just so hilarious.
I've only seen Batman Forever, but even I don't rank it #1. Never finished The Hangover and never saw Star Trek.
@@davidhollingsworth4665 haha, I love your opinions.
Holland is right, Zoe is a Trekkie in that movie, I totally should have remembered that, I watched The Terminal in December. I have Guardians 3 already. 👍 Agreed on Amadeus, but I don’t know what would have been the runner’s up that year, so weak. 😩. You don’t have Blade Runner 2049? 😱
@@angelcastaneda529 yeah I really gotta get 2049. Would the runner up be A Passage to India or The Killing Fields? I feel like The Killing Fields has had the more enduring legacy when compared to Passage to India… but I guess that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the runner up,
I really don’t know. I guess it is Killing Fields because it’s about a horrible event in history, it has that performance by Dr. Ngor and British film lists have it up there, which is surprising because Passage was David Lean, no?
Wow! Saldana was a Trekkie in that! I never even thought about the fact that she was IN Star Trek later!! Thanks for posting, Derek!
@@larinmcmullen8324 and I gotta give Holland a thank you for pointing it out to me. Thanks for watching Larin!
What would be a four pack you would create?
@@AcresOfMovies let’s see. I think I would make a 4 pack of heroes from the 1930s, so Batman (1989), Dick Tracy (1990), The Shadow (1994), The Phantom (1996).
These are awesome videos i love the rankings etc. Yay! ♥️Staci so fun to aee what ranks where
@@AcresOfMovies thank you so much!! Means a lot!

@@AcresOfMovies that’s a good system. So far the only movies I have in separate sections are my Christmas movies, and my Criterion movies. I guess my VHS tapes are in a different group too.
Nice pick ups to start the year.

2025: I don’t know 😂.
@@angelcastaneda529 😂 even though I still haven’t seen it, I’ve got my fingers crossed for The Brutalist.
Well, the Critics Choice Awards were just minutes ago, and it was Anora. The four acting awards look solidified: Brody, Demi, Kiernan, and Zoe.
@ gahhh I forgot to watch! Thank you for the winners
Zoe Saldana was a trekkie in The Terminal! 🤣
@@Holland_Oates that’s amazing and I wish I would have remembered that for this video!
Id go for The Hangover first, as its in my collection, and absolutely loved it. Id go for Star Trek second despite not really being a Trekkie fan, but would probably watch more the newer versions and movies of Star Trek. And Batman Forever third, as i really only preferred the tv show.
@@danielle5980 oh wow! You just brought back so many Batman tv show memories for me. Are you referring to the one from the 60s or the animated series from the 90s. I watched both, but the show from the 60s holds a special place in my heart. I always watched it on FX after school Back in the mid 90s.
Yeah, brother. I came here as quickly as I saw the first movie. Oh man, what am I going to do? Okay I know. 3. The Hangover, oh man I don’t know like putting it in third, I just like the other movies, but still the best in the trilogy, somebody should tell Todd Philips not to do sequels, especially after the first movie becomes this juggernaut. 2. Batman Forever, happy 30th anniversary, I am looking through Oscar nominations of comic book movies, and I still can’t believe it was nominated for Best Cinematography, it lost to Braveheart. I just watched Twins for the first time last week and can’t help thinking watching Arnie and Danny reminisce their time in the franchise, and I was just thinking the scene where you watched Two-Face and Riddler’s wardrobe, I know the Burton and Schumacher movies are very different, but man the villains are so lively, I used to quote Jim so much. 1. Star Trek, so I never grew up with the series or past movies, so I was pretty much bitter when it came out, it was so embarrassing, but man I glad I did, I’m not a die hard Trekkie, but man one of my favorite Blu-Rays in my collection is having the original 10 movies, man I can’t imagine people’s reactions when they saw Leonard Nimoy, man, it’s going to be 10 years when he passed at the end of the month. That score, so good. And the first Star Trek movie to win an Oscar, I agree, want to see more. 🖖
@@angelcastaneda529 wow! It’s the first Star Trek to win an Oscar?! That’s exciting for the movie but I feel sad for the franchise. Especially the first film. I find it absolutely beautiful. Such a gorgeous work. Reminds me of Terrance Malick.
Yeah, it was. That’s such a great win. I really liked it a lot, it gave new life to the franchise and it introduced a new generations of fans, myself included. So Voyage Home was nominated for Cinematography, that same category as Batman Forever. So cool 😩.
Thanks to your wife for supporting the documentary. We hope you enjoy it! - Ralph

@@angelcastaneda529 thank you! Nice new avatar/profile picture. I’m really excited for F4. Almost reacted to the trailer.
Thank you Derek 😊 I would love to see your reaction, I thought of you when Malkovich was revealed.
@ I gasped when I saw that! I’ll tell you my biggest reactions. The main one is The Thing’s voice. I think it need to be more gravely without a gravely sound, it feels too dubbed. I also think Johnny’s hair looks too artificial. He’s a good actor but maybe they should have hired a real blonde.
Yeah, the voice, I’m also still getting used to the look, they did the brow, and had to check my library whether he had it, and he did. Joseph Quinn should have borrowed Kate Mara’s, oh I’m kidding. 😂. I think Malkovich might be playing the villainous Red Ghost, one of their early villains, which I want more of, yeah Doom is great, and I am somewhat excited for RDJ, but kind of want to see more, I’m hearing Mole Man might also be in it.
It didn't occur to me at all that you might want this! 😂

@@JoseCasas-b1z I don’t know of any that are specifically designed to be hypoallergenic. Is it the wax itself that causes the allergy or another ingredient? Minority Report, Spielberg at number one, kind of don’t want his next movie to be about UFO, but so be it. 9:30 Oh no, he didn’t. I did a double take like the pigeon from Moonraker (1979) 😅.
@@angelcastaneda529 haha, I sort of recovered that statement a sentence or too later 😂🤣
Lol, yeah I know. By the way, Derek, what is this drama behind Emilia Perez, are you hearing about it like I am?
Acting is a criteria right? I think Rosamund Pike should have won the Oscar for Best Actress for “Gone Girl”, I finally did see the role Julianne Moore won for, in “Still Alice”, and she was good, but man that Cool Girl monologue, haunting, Pike’s performance, Fincher’s direction, and Gillian Flynn’s screenplay. Chef’s kiss 😘. Marc Forster directed Finding Neverland, he also directed Monster’s Ball, Quantum of Solace, and World War Z, didn’t Freddie Highmore played Charlie Bucket in Burton’s version of Chocolate Factory? Are you thinking of Carrie Coon, Patrick Fugit, and Kim Dickens? 🙌
@@angelcastaneda529 yeah, Pike would’ve been a really fun win!! Man that would’ve been cool!! That’s right, Freddy Highmore was in wonka, and we just showed that movie to the kids last weekend, they loved it so much!! They love candy 😂. I think Depp got him the job after he enjoyed working with him. Yep! Those are the names! Thank you!
Right? It would have been one in the best of the decade in the lead actress category, I kind of wished Flynn’s screenplay was also recognized, but it was just Pike. Yeah, I’m glad to hear they liked it, I always wanted to try that chocolate more than the one from Gene Wilder’s.
When you realized Finding Neverland was full screen 😂
@@alydematti haha, I need to go through my whole collection and toss those out so I can replace them right away 😂
Gone Girl blew me away. Brilliant film. Neil Patrick Harris, being a dedicated method actor, insisted on actually having his throat cut during that climactic scene with Miss Pike. A large segment of the film's cost was used for emergency surgery to seal up his throat. I'm not making this up. Trust me.
