Nice tour and history primer, except, of course, Ivan was never "Terrible". The name was given by lying, thieving, murderous and perverse Western politicians and historians. It's the same scum that call Mr. Putin a "thug". The correct translation of tsar (Cesar) Ivan nickname would be "Formidable" or "Rampant"

FYI A couple of remarks related to historical names and their translation from Russian to English ("lost in translations", but I didn't mean because of you)... Firstly - "Ivan the Terrible" (Иван Грозный) - the nickname is mistranslated. First of all, the nickname itself passed to Ivan IV from his grandfather, also Ivan III (Иван III Грозный). The word "грозный" itself has no direct translation into English. It comes from the word "гроза" (thunderstorm). In pagan times, the thunderstorm personified the supreme power. In the 16th century, this image was already closely associated with the Orthodox "wrath of God" - not harshness, but justice and inevitability of punishment . Secondly - "Red Square" (Красная площадь) - the name has nothing to do with the color red. In olden times in Russia, the word "красная" also had the meaning of "beautiful" (красивая). Thirdly - in modern Russia, all decorations for winter holidays overwhelming majority of people associate primarily with the celebration of New Year. So all around are New Year's decorations, New Year's fairs, New Year's Spruce trees...

There is a channel on YT of an American (@senttosiberia) who has been living in Russia for some time in Altai Krai where he farms, his Russian is perfect. I never thought that an American could speak Russian so fluently, so cleanly and unmistakably, without an accent and with a huge vocabulary. If I met him on the street, I would never think he wasn't Russian. You could ask him what his secret is, how he managed to achieve such success in learning Russian.
