Ensenada is a cool little town and your advice is spot on. They want the tourists there and they keep it pretty clean and safe. I wouldn't wander around at night, but it's fine. We have never had a problem. As a matter of fact, I once left my backpack (with wallet, passport, Carnival key card, etc) in a restaurant. I realized it about 20 minutes after I left, I raced back to the restaurant, and lo and behold, the owner had grabbed it and kept it safe. He even remembered my name. "Jeff!! I have your bag!!" I gave him $50 and told him to buy some beers for his staff. Good karma.

Going in March 2025 and most of our group booked hideaway while others couldn’t due to rooms being sold out. For those that didn’t book hideaway (all adults) will they still be allowed to venture on the hideaway side, using the pool, beach, etc?

I stayed on the Queen Mary for 4 nights a month ago. I was there purely for the history and explored every part I could gain access to. I had warm, cozy feeling everywhere, no ghosts! The ghost stories were first fabricated by Disney when they inherited the lease in the late 1980’s as marketing gimmick to attract more tourists. They do the ghost tours today because it does still help make money.

We sailed this ship in August, and loved it! FYI, this is also not an older ship - it was built in 2020 for the Chinese market for Costa (a Carnival subsidiary) but began sailing for Carnival in 2024. It's basically brand new. Same is true of the Venezia. We've been on both LOL. Pro tip if you're sailing out of Long Beach: have your Uber driver leave you on the far edge of the Queen Mary parking lot - the traffic getting in and out of the dropoff / pickup area for the cruise terminal is awful.

I need to know your experience on the Queen Mary. We always stay at Hotel Maya. Tbh I never get in the pool or the hot tubs on the ship. I love that you don’t have to reserve any of the day beds. Other cruise lines require a payment for day beds.

When you review the ship's activities, you will see FRIENDS OF JIMMY K and FRIENDS OF BILL W. JIMMY K on Carnival is NARCOTIC ANONYMOUS and BILL W is ALCOHOLIC ANONYMOUS. There are group meetings on the ship for passengers with the temptation to drink or do drugs onboard.

Just my opinion but I find that visiting a resort in the off-season is probably the reason the food isn’t as good. I have been to the Riu Guanacaste twice in peak season and everything was fabulous. The buffet food was great!
