A photo study of the Spokane Portland & Seattle Railway by the late Chuck Storz. The old paint scheme was the dark GN Green with safety stripes. In 1964 with the delivery of the Alco C-424's the later "Wide Band" scheme was adopted and served the SP&S until merger into Burlington Northern

Oregon City has a public elevator connecting the business district with the residential district on top of the bluff

I was born and raised in Oregon City. I have been in this Cemetery many, many, many times. Have no family buried there , but I do have several friends that I have known throughout my life buried there

My brother and I walked through that graveyard last weekend. You can take baby powder and splash on the tombstone. That helps to read hard to read tombstones. My great, great, great, great, great grandparents came out in 1853 and settled in Oregon City for awhile. Hadlock and Sumner was their last names. They may have known your ancestors.

Thanks for sayin McHenry's are trash worthy! 😉 I reluctantly use their double shelf couplers on my modern tank cars as Kadee has not produced a satisfactory equivalent. Go SP&S!

update as of today the #539 is in Williams Arizona, not at esther short park anymore.

Awesome photo collection! Thanks for sharing. My dad hired onto the SP&S in 1944 at Wishram as a fireman. He took promotion to engineer in 1960 and moved the family to Spokane where he retired from the BN in 1977. I was fortunate enough to ride with him several times from the mid 1960s until his retirement.
