Inside the Chipmunk 75th Anniversary Formation, warts and all! I have done very little editing so you get the full experience of what it was like, a few expletives have been removed! I have not added music, the music of the Gipsy Major is enough.

Car Lift
Переглядів 614 роки тому
After years of lying on cold concrete floors working under cars I decided that in my 70’s I would treat myself to a car lift. I chose a 4 post lift after watching UA-cam videos of disasters with 2 post lifts and also not trusting the integrity of the 75 year old concrete in my barn. The 4 post lift also has the advantage of being able to park another vehicle in the same floor space. The thumbna...

Restoration of our 1958 Austin Healey Sprite MK 1 (Frogeye) We have owned this car since 1967 but she had not been on the road for over 40 years. I thought I had better fix her up before I got too decrepit !

Rib Stitching

Rib Stitching a DHC-1 Chipmunk wing. VERY IMPORTANT - When finished stitching thoroughly clean the wax residue from the rib stitching thread with thinners or MEK. If this is not done the dope will not adhere properly.

My First Avid Solo
Переглядів 2 тис.5 років тому
Ken's first solo in Avid Spedwing G-CURV Rather a long and boring video but useful for monitoring the gauges. EGT's a little higher than I'd like but examination of the plugs indicates they are over reading. Action Camera battery ran out so no landing, but it was OK, she's a pussy cat!

Holy retro! This reminds me of when I first started using Adobe Photoshop 1.0, Adobe Illustrator 3.5, Adobe Pagemaker 4.0, and AutoCAD R11, as a technical illustrator back in the early 90's.

Certainly Retro, it was made many years ago using what was then a cutting edge Lotus product.

I thought that wing looked familiar. The DHC-1 Chipmunk was the very first plane that I ever got to fly. It was at the Toronto Aerospace Museum’s Wings & Wheels Heritage Festival at Downsview Airport (DYZ), back in 2006. These aircraft were used as trainers for the Canadian Airforce pilots many years ago.

Used to work on the Chipys at a Dump just down the road R.A.F. Debden in 58/59.... I have never been more bored in my life.... My Eng Sgt came to me one day and asked Is that right that you are going on STRIKE....YES.... But you can't do that as it is against Queen;s Regs.... I asked Is Boredom written into Queens's Regs.... I don't think so..... well I am going on strike.... WHY.... No Work... Well Sweep the Hanger...Done that many times over.... Ground eqpt checks....All Done.... OH.... Hey Sarg want to come for a ride and gather some Mushrooms...Go for a ride?...Yep as I nodded at the David Brown Aircraft Towing Tractor....Picked a heap of Mushrooms and told Sarg to take them back to his Wife and cook them and spread them around the Married Quarters.

Just happened across your video tonight. Are you still having fun with it? What is your cruise speed at say 5500 rpm, and power off stall speed? 582 sounds like? I had my MK IV up for a bit this afternoon and it's still fun! Jim Chuk

Memories: In 1961 I had a door to door insurance route. I bought a maroon Austin Healey Sprite MK1 with the matching maroon fibreglas top and the black leather top stored in the back (Boot, behind the seats). I also had a young blonde wife to complete the picture. After ruining the little engine TWICE I decided to do what any red blooded young American would do. I created Ford's Cobra copy with 327 GM V-8 and Duntov cam, plus 2-4's. No room for 3-peddles, I put a Powerglide in. Used Ford crossflow radiator and surge tank and was amazed how cool it actually ran under that bug eyed hood (bonnet)(Bugeyed, not Frogs.) With short wheelbase and quick turns I eventually swapped to 3-2 barrel carbs so had to cut a hole in the hood. Other than that and two chrome exhaust tips, it appeared stock. Feathering the go peddle it lasted several years. I traded for a 1933 Chevy and some cash. I often wonder where that bugeyed Sprite ended up. The young wife recently went to heaven and I traded the '33 Chevy for other classic cars.

I remember the first time I ever saw a as we call it here in Hawai'i a Bug-eye Sprite. It was in July 1966 in Waikīkī, Hawaiʻi. I was 6 years old, and this adorable car was parked across the street from our home. I instantly fell in love with it, and have wanted one ever since. Sadly, they are rare as henʻs teeth here in the islands, and Iʻm too poor to afford bring one in from the mainland. Itʻs a nice dream though. Thank you for sharing this restoration.
