I was a runner from March 1979 to Oct 2022. Due to bilateral, age related meniscus tears, I had to quit. Now I'm a walker and a biker. I always ran with one pair of shoes for exactly one year. Can you say Shoe Goo ! I went from 6 miles 3x a week to 4.5 miles 3x a week before I quit. That's over 900 miles on one pair of shoes back in the day, and then about 675 to 700 as an old guy. Never was concerned about responsiveness and energy return. As long as I didn't get plantar fasciitis and I had shoe goo to fill in the worn heels, I was good to go . Except for a sprained ankle when I step on a rock in the road , I never had an injury until my knees acted up in Jan. 2022. Ran for 9 months with pain and then decided it wasn't worth it anymore. The MRI confirmed the diagnosis .It took about a year to be completely pain free. Now I'm just an old guy walking the streets watching all the young people running passed me. Time waits for no one.

The important part is that you are still out there moving forward! Certainly there are plenty of folks who just use one pair of shoes until they simply fall apart, and if that works for you, great! But there is no debating the shoe's support, cushioning, responsiveness, grip, etc. will break down over time. But everyone wants the most miles for their money and my goal is to provide some insight as to what to expect from certain shoes. Thanks for sharing!

I find them to soft for slow runs. Killing my hips..Only shoe that gives me hip pain.. So unstable at slow pace. Very good for Tempo runs but it's heavy for that.. Also collecting huge rocks in the outsole. So big it felt like I got a flat tire.. Had to stop to remove them. Also outsole started to get bold at around 150 miles... Crazy. 😢

Great information! You experienced all of the same issues I had (though I didn't have the hip pain). And I forgot to mention that I also got rocks in the big groove on the sole, so thanks for that!

I just finished putting similar miles in my Hyperion Max and was looking at the Boston 12 before committing to a second pair. I had a great experience in the Max but some days wanted more cushion but worry about snappy shoes and foot strength. I race trails but train my weekday miles on road. Any thoughts?

I am going to assume you don't really want to buy a pure trail shoe (I've never worn one, so couldn't provide any thoughts on that anyways). I can certainly understand that the Max isn't great on trails, it's too flimsy and as you note, not highly cushioned. I recently did a trail ultra and after a couple different shoes, settled on the Hoka Clifton for the trails. Of all the highly cushioned shoes, I felt that provided the most responsiveness while providing a very stable, reliable landing pad (particularly on the trails). Was a shoe that for me, gave my foot a nice break. Hope that helps!

I agree on the lack of responsiveness. I sold mine after 150km for $40 to a friend. Bought another pair of the Invincible 2 on 50% sale. I have 2 pairs and really love them over the Nimbus 25. The Invincible is both cushy and responsive. The Nimbus is just cushy but not responsive. Subscribed. Nice video Sir.

Great review, I can't run in it on slow or long slow runs. It's very soft and unstable at low pace and to heavy for fast runs.. Disappointed.

Thanks so much for sharing! I really thought I was going to like this shoe, but ran into issues, most problematic was that the outer rubber sole wore away before I even reached 100 miles! So spoiler alert, my 300 Mile review will not be complimentary!

My only problem with the Hyperion Max was the width. It's way too narrow for me, especially in the forefoot.

Ha! That's one of the reasons I liked it, I've got quite narrow feet. But shoe width is one of the most critical parameters for folks, so many thanks for noting that!
