How to estimate a new irrigation system

Tip: The best way to estimate Gross Square feet is to know this before hand. Measure in the office on the computer and you will be much more accurate!

How to estimate plant removal
Переглядів 2114 роки тому
This is very easy. Estimate the size of existing plants that will be removed. Total all of them up. Don't forget a disposal fee if there is not one already included in the project.

"Take 10500sf and divide it by 1250" and you know what you get, ... Numbers that don't mean shit. If you know the size of the city supply, water flow, psi, and the precipitation rates on whatever kind of nozzles you're using, you'll know how many zones your design needs and how many heads you'll be able to use in each zone. DO NOT GO BY THE SQUARE FOOTAGE OF THE PROPERTY. It's best to be precise with the numbers so there's no doubt on how many heads can one lateral run.
Is this an April fools joke?!
Ever heard of a tape measure?
thank you
What’s the profit margin?
That's up to you and how hard you want to work vs how many people you have help/what machines you use. Too many factors.
If I were to ever see my guys without a measuring wheel, I will fire them on the spot
You do ever side though right?
Is the total project cost what you charge or is that your total before your mark up?
I only measure by step occasionally, but I have size 12 and I only do the ‘DUI walk’ lol to get a spot on measurement
This info is nonsense, keep looking.
Wow now I know that 99% fake it till they make it.
So your saying you would put pavers over concrete slab?............
if there was enough room up to the siding to add sand, why not?
Thank you, very informative.
Lmao, as an irrigation contractor. DO NOT FOLLOW THIS! Also if you’re installing the best irrigation systems around town it would be easy to put you out of business 😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Instead of being a dick you could add some information. As an irrigation contractor myself the only difference is I'd use a measuring wheel and if you wanna get crazy string line the property. I can assure you if you do almost a 1000 a year you'll end up knowing it well enough where you dont use anything but google maps.
Any suggestions? I'm starting on the business and I'll probably will installed my first system.
Thanks for making this video!
You need a new camera guy.
YES. this is what i was lookin for
Thank you lol
Yeah each wrinkle on your finger is exactly one inch cuz nobody has different sized hands right
Thank you
The price include the gravel and sand?
I think he's using what's already underneath if I had to guess
Very helpful video thanks 😊
I install irrigation for living and this guy has no idea what he is talking about. Irrigation has several variables to consider when deciding how many zones a property needs. I am not going to go into them all of them at this time. I had someone send me this video asking if this was a good process to use for estimating irrigation. It was such a bad idea, I felt like I needed to make comment to hopefully stop someone from using this process.
is there any other way? looking for some help.
Ok this doesn’t work for say a property that is an acre. If I multiple that it will tell me I need like 30 zones times per zone cost would be $20k for a sprinkler syste
And is he planning on watering the house? Sheesh. He should at least deduct the sq ft of the house’s footprint.
Thank you, All information is appreciate 🙏..
The only problem is that this doesn’t cover being in different areas of the country. In Northern California this would be $15,000 minimum basic patio
In Marin I just got a quote $4,000 for 600 sq ft and when you have a long 1,800 sf would cost $12,000.
Thank you.
First... Why would you EVER not use a measure wheel or satellite to measure the property? Very unprofessional. Secondly... How do you know how many zones you need if you have no idea what the water pressure is? You should NEVER assume that a home has enough pressure to run a new irrigation system without determining how much water the home is currently using. If the homeowner is running laundry, taking a shower, and has a load in the dishwasher, once that irrigation system kicks on they might be in for a surprise. THIRD... You should NEVER determine the price of a job without 3 things: Design & Layout - Cost of Labor & Materials - Margins... You have no clue what those 3 things are by pricing the job after walking the property line and using some type of calculation to determine how much to charge them. What happens when 30% of a backyard is garden beds and the homeowner doesn’t want their perennials blasted by a pop up? My guess is you’re price gouging that homeowner regardless of what the actual necessary installation needs are. What about having to bore under a driveway or multiple sidewalks?? How much space of that 10k sqft is taken up by the size of the house itself?? Lol NEXT.. 9 ZONES for 10k sqft (1/4 acre minus the size of the home) Without a pressure test?? Lmaololo Lets assume that particular home has adequate pressure for a new system which means Each zone could hold between 6-8 heads. You SERIOUSLY think you need to install 50+ sprinkler heads to cover a 1/4 acre lot??? LASTLY... Who in their right mind would EVER pay over a total of $850 each zone?? The actual cost with highly paid labor ($20/hr) is only about $200 including a controller, machine work, and plumbing. I WOULD LOOOOVE to be bidding against this company!!! I’d do this job for $3,600 installed in 1 day, WITH a 5 year warranty on all parts and a 3 year service plan and STILL have a $1,500 margin and a 30/1 ROI. LOLOLO Sorry bud, YOU’RE FIRED!
I was thinking the exact same thing.. I've been wanting an irrigation system for a long time. I received one online quote so far for 5k (base price) which seems ridiculous to me being that the lot is 0.27 acres and all turf areas cover about 7,500 sq ft (using Google Earth -- which seems to be pretty accurate when I used it to apply my liquid fertilizers). From searching around, I figured it was going to be in the 3k range at the highest. They also want to charge an additional $250 for the optional map, which I really wanted but not for that price. It's becoming frustrating trying to find a company that will respond during covid, let alone one that is reasonable with the price.
@@sj7601 I just did a small front yard today about 4000sq ft 5 zones $7200
@@sj7601 you get what you pay for if you want it installed properly you can’t be cheap
Fuck a wheel. In irrigation you pace.
You zoned just based off sqft? That's highly ineffective, what about hydrozoning? Or even more importantly getting a PSI reading and a GPM reading that way you know how many gallons you can even put on the zone. Side note, that controller install is trash, why is the pipe going into it slanted? Was it that difficult to get a straight pipe into the controller? Theres only a few things on an irrigation system that are visible, is it so hard to get those things perfect?
Thank you for your video
A lot talks. Boring
Lots of BS
If I would call a "professional" to come estimate something for me & I'd see him do this process ha there's no way it would cross threw my head that he's the "right one" ha I will never give an estimate on the spot for anything that's going to require a design, it makes no sense. It doesn't even take long to take the notes needed to draw it out & adding it all up. Not trying to be funny I'm just being realistic!
Here's a tip. Use google earth to do a rough design on your clients property before you go out to give the estimate. When I get to a client's house I already know everything I need to know except the PSI and location of the meter.
@@noeeon9910 I use google earth for applying liquid fertilizers, very useful tool! Why can't a video like this just state the BASE price for an irrigation system based on ACTUAL square footage of turf areas? Example, you outline all turf areas on Google Earth and you end up with 7500 sq ft, well how much is the average price for that?
Thank you
Sticker shock. We live in a nice neighborhood with new homes....no wonder I haven’t seen my neighbors with these. I couldn’t see it costing more than $2,500 if I did it myself
You are correct, the parts would not cost you more than that. Labor for the install, programming and set up are the largest expenses. With water getting higher and higher in demand irrigation system will only get more expensive as time goes on. There are people that will install it for less but you will more than pay for it over time in wasted water expenses, issues with your lawn and repairs.
