This bearing adjustment technique reminds me of adjusting the headset on a bicycle. You want to get rid of the play, but not overtighten it. So you have to find that sweet spot where play just disappeared, and not tighten past that point. (Some bike headset use angular contact bearing, in this case tightening a bit more is beneficial since ACBs work well when they have some preload). Either way, when you're done, there shouldn't be any play, but the rotation/movement should be smooth and without binding.

Grease can last longer and stays put better than oil, but this is an open bearing (no seals) and will collect dust/dirt relatively quickly, I'd say it should be cleaned/serviced quite regularly, so oil (same as in your wheel bearings, e.g. Bones Speed Cream) should also be fine.

I just did a quick check, in Germany you can buy 10 sets of 51100+51101 for 16 EUR + 3 EUR shipping. So, 20 EUR for 10 sets while one set from YOW costs 25 EUR. Unlike the wheel bearings, this is not some kind of high-speed bearing where super high precision and quality will result in a better ride. At least I don't think anyone would notice a difference between a no-name bearing and the original YOW one or the SKF. Btw, a set of SKF 51100+51101 should cost no more than 40 EUR.

Nice video. YOW has a 2023 model called La Jolla, it's the biggest one in the Power surfing series, 35" long with a 21" wheelbase. The board itself is also the widest, at 10.5". I am quite tall (190 cm) and have rather big feet (EU 46), so I like the La Jolla very much, especially when I ride it barefoot (which is quite often). I've tried a couple of other boards (Curfboard, a Globe cruiser converted to a surfskate using the Waterborne adapter) and the decks are just not so comfortable (when barefoot) because they are much narrower. I would be curious to try some other YOW board in the future, something with a slightly shorter WB, maybe the Teahupoo...

Nice video, I think I'm gonna get a dedicated board brush :) Curfboard suggests using soapy water, and they use more of it: ua-cam.com/video/lIL_9LbutMo/v-deo.htmlsi=ZXiPySVGrR8J5Dba I think it wouldn't be a problem to give the top of the board a quick rinse with a shower head in the end. Just not get the wheel bearings all wet, and dry the board immediately after cleaning it. I would probably take the wheels off before washing the deck, and use this opportunity to clean / oil the wheel bearings.

Thanks for the video! I got these 2 types now. It was very helpfull, that you listet the wheelbase of many boards. I started with the padang padang, because of the long wheelbase (siutable for a 1.80m guy like me). Im looking for more concave, since i often sleep step by step forward on the board. Now maybe im looking into a high concave board with enough wheelbase.. maybe the santa might be something to check out =) thanks and greetings from switzerland 😊

Very good video explanation! Surfskating and Surf Simulation skate training are different but with about 90% overlap. I agree that The Swell tech is probably better for Surf training. But for Surfskating as it's own sport, the "Wiggle" technique is very useful in certain circumstances, and when used appropriately, adds another dimension of control and ability that is lost with swell tech.
