Some Action From Round 4 of the RWD Cup at Carnosa RC Park.

Another fabulous night racing at Carnosa RC park in round 4 of the RWD Cup. In round three I came 2nd overall, losing out to a vintage (not re-re!) RC10. Round four saw me take TQ and head straight into the A main. However, a few silly mistakes and I was knocked out a couple of times. I finished the night in 3rd place, with 2nd place going to the vintage RC10. Respect! ✊😁 Still very pleased wit...

After editing this video I realized I came across as moaning a lot about nothing. Which is a fair assessment. 😅 Hey, what can I say. I'm British and we love to moan. 😁 To be honest it wasn't that much of a deal, more of a disappointment really. Coming from numerous Tamiya, Kyosho and Yokomo builds I had was looking forward to building something different. To me the build is a large part of the ...

Here are my (not so brief) thoughts on the second re-release from Yokomo, the 1983 YZ-834B. Also known as the Dog Fighter, this is considered to be one of the first 1/10 electric 4WD buggies commercially available. Some unusual features of the 834B include a midship mounted motor with power transferred via a chain and gears fore and aft respectively. At the rear you'll find a gear diff, but the...

Great event. Many beautiful Buggies 👍
Congrats on the 4k. Well deserved indeed!
Thanks!
Your flags are backwards!
Probably my favorite RC channel. Very relaxing to watch your detailed presentation with your soft accent and peaceful Japanese music in the background. It's almost like ASMR for dudes that dig RC! I just ordered a Beetle and taking notes on the part numbers you speak of. You deserve more subs, you and your channel are a benefit to the community. Keep up the great work David, watching from the Space Coast Florida USA.
Hi there, I’m in the final stages of my Tomahawk and find the gear mesh at the pinion/spur is too tight. Have you experienced this on any of your builds and/or found a solution. With it being all fixed adjustments I’m not sure how to correct it short of grinding an adjustment notch for the motor screws 😳
Hi there! First of all, I’m going to assume you’re using the correct pinion spur combo. The kit includes two for different gear ratios. Assuming that’s ok the next thing I would look at is the shaft that the spur mounts on to. Of the five buggies I’ve built with that gearbox one had a mesh that seemed tight at certain spots as it rotated. The solution I found was to simply undo the screw holding that shaft in place and re tighten it 180° from its initial position. (It’s supposed to be setup so the body pin hole is horizontal). That seemed to solve the problem. Don’t forget the thread lock too. A final possibility is the motor plate has a slight bend in it. Unlikely, but possible. You could also try a different brand of pinion. If the backlash isn’t too far off ideal, I might be tempted to run it. The gears should bed in after a little use. 👍 Hope that helps!
@ thanks so much! I’ll give the shaft spin a try. I appreciate your help! The GO TO Kyosho legends legend 👌
👍 Just a little more video in detail about cars of it’s possible 🤩
Will try! 👍 Night races at Carnosa are pretty hectic, so not a lot of time to film in the pit.
It looked like a lot of fun out there and I am sure you had a great time and made some great memories! I enjoyed watching the racing and congrats on winning the one race and 5th isn't bad with a wreck in the second one! Also congratulations on passing the 4K mark, much deserved as I have said in the past you deserve many more! Enjoy your builds upcoming!!!
Thank you! When I began making videos I never imagined this channel would have grown to reach 4,000 subscribers. The amount of support I have received has been truly heartening.
Gosh dang I wish I could thumbs up this video/series more than once. Absolutely an amazing resource you’ve provided. I’m listening through for my 10th time at least. Thank you
Wow, thank you!! 😊 I had no idea this video would prove to be so useful to so many. As things have moved on and Kyosho continue to add new machines to the Legendary Series, I plan to revisit this topic and produce an updated version. But first I need to get around to building the newer machines including the two '87 Worlds specials and the Optima Pro.
Man, this is a masterpiece of a video, what an honor to found this gem on YT. Congratulations! Finally a video that put a huge warm smile on my being. Love it to pieces! Well done man! Cheers from Portugal
Thank you!! It is heartening to know that my video is bringing a smile to so many viewers faces. ☺️
Thank you David. I live in the UK have been watching your videos for some time now. A very big fan of masami. I was present at the worlds event when he won with the Schumacher cat at Romsey. its nice to watch a Utuber that actually knows what he is talking about. keep up the good work.
Thanks for the kind words.☺️ It must have been wonderful to see Masami back in the day! The atmosphere at the track would surely have been amazing. I would have liked to go myself, but Romsey was quite a way from where I grew up in Derby. Eleven year old me probably even considered riding his BMX there. 😂 I'm fortunate that almost 40 years later, not only did I get to meet the Legend, I was able to run alongside him on the track. ☺️
@ A long time ago now. Inspired me to race myself. I still have the program from the day.
Nice shots & buggy 👍
Thanks 👍
Hi David! It was such a flawless run to the victory, starting from the pole, leading all the way! It was super impressive! Nice seeing you and your wife again! Hope to see you at the GFCC 2025! P.S. Thanks also for including my Tomahawk a few times in the footage!
Thank you for the support! 😊 I did better than I hoped in the races. Your Tomahawk looked great out on the track. Unfortunately my mirrorless camera was having focusing problems, so a lot of the footage was unusable! 😥 I will definitely be attending GFCC 2025. See you then! 😊
Yep, surely! Can’t wait!
I always enjoy looking at all the different builds for paint schemes inspiration. Good stuff! 👍
Glad you enjoy it! 😊
Congrats on your 4K milestone and well done on the track! It’s great to see these event footages. Thanks for sharing.👍😊
Thank you for the all the support you've given to me. It is very much appreciated. 😊
Congrats on 4K subs, great vid and pit walk was good, be good to see some more in detail next time
Thank you! I had intended to do a more thorough pit walk and speak with some other participants. But just never got the time!
@ sure I understand as it’s busy at a Race meeting especially running 2 classes, just cool to see the Japanese cars/people and builds Keep up the great work 👍🏻🏁
Some real beauties in that lot.
Oh yes! And that wasn't even all of them. Quite a few remained on the pit tables during this shoot.
Congrats on 4k, David. Well done on the race results, David. So many beautiful cars. We could see the 870c nosediving 😢 Not easy to drive 🥴🤝
Yeah, mine seems to be particularly bad. It's all in the setup and technique, both of which I just haven't quite nailed down...yet. Overall, the 870c drove better than my last outing with it. The EXO Design conversion kit and big bore dampers helping tremendously. Undoubtedly my biggest mistake was gearing. I should have dropped a couple of teeth on the pinion to give me the punch needed to clear that double consistently. Nevertheless, the 870c is a wonderful machine. I still can't get over how smooth and quiet it is on the track. Makes every other buggy (except the BBX) seem almost agricultural in comparison. 🤩
Well done on coming 1st 👌 looks like a great day out 👌
Thank you! I had a superb time. I will be returning again next year for sure. 👍
So many good looking kits. That turn out!
Yes! It was quite the turn out. Having seven classes in all made for a wide variety of machines. Regretfully I didn't have the time to film more of them in detail or speak with the owners.
Love it, what a video. Sad to think of how many of these will never make it off a shelf or even out of the box. They need dirt and grass, their natural habit as you have shown.
Thank you! It is a shame that so many RC's will spend their time on the shelf not being used. But people are free to enjoy the hobby however they wish. I'm not really one for shelf queens, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't want to fill a hobby room with a collection of pristine buggies...in addition to my runners, of course! 😁
@@KaiCityRC Agreed, they certainly are works of art. The ten year old in me is confused by shelf queens but the 51 year old is selecting which order to line the vintage buggies up in :)
How much worse is the Turbo Scorpion (particularly front suspension since I plan on replacing the rear with something entirely novel) compared to the Ultima for racing and use with brushless 10.5-17.5t motors?
The reason I ask is specifically because I want to design and test new rear suspension ideas on RC first before going full scale, and people on the RC cars subreddit suggested I use the Turbo Scorpion as a platform since the pickup points on the rear trailing arms are similar to what I want to install... TBH I'm still not convinced and think I should either go with a Traxxas chassis or a custom chassis, but with the latter, I have no idea how I'd do the front, TBH.
The double wishbone setup on the Ultima is much better to work with than the trailing arms of the Scorpion chassis. This is especially true on high grip surfaces. I've not run the Scorpion chassis buggies with anything quicker than a 17.5 brushless setup, so can't comment on how well they'd handle higher power setups. Regardless the Ultima would be my choice. The Scorpions have a wonderful old school appeal, but they'd don't really stand up to modern buggies. If you're just looking for some kind of test rig for a full scale development, might it be best to choose an RC buggy with a similar front suspension design to that of the full sized vehicle? I have zero experience with Traxxas, so can't say if it would be a more suitable route.
@@KaiCityRC @KaiCityRC All modern buggies currently use what full-scale offroad vehicles use on the front; DWB. Though to be frank, full-scale versions are better as it seems that RC cars lack _actual_ geometry in order to give them usable camber gain characteristics. Having equal-length arms that are perfectly parallel to each other is seriously bad for cornering, especially on the rear where the caster angle can't make up for it because the rear wheels don't steer and don't have caster. The reason I asked about Traxxas is that they're seemingly cheap with plentiful aftermarket upgrade parts for the little things and other people seem to mod them what with the small plethora of mid-motor bandit builds, custom shock towers and bulkheads etc. out there.
Did you try oil in the diffs?
I went with Kyosho weighted silicone diff gear grease.
@ I think I need to try that…oil doesn’t seem to want to stay inside
👍
So basically a Kyosho is the equivalent of a Tamiya thats had all the upgrade parts, right? But whats this about Tamiya has better instructions and you actually get all the parts in the box? Want to build a Tomahawk but would have no idea what to do if shock i just built is leaking or if instructions are incorrect, etc.
The Instructions for the Legendary Series buggies aren't bad, they're just not as good (IMHO) as Tamiya (which are very good and aimed at complete beginners). The Kyosho manuals don't have much in the way of explanations, more a series of diagrams. There are a few (minor) errors here and there, but nothing major. And newer batches of kits seem to have revised manuals. The Tomahawk is quite a straightforward build and if you're unsure, help is just a few clicks away. There are a plethora of build videos on here too.
Beauty nice to see it running!
Me and my son (who is 6) really enjoy watching these races and trying to figure out what chassis' you're all using. Were hopeless at it 🤣 but it's fun. Thanks for sharing
It's quite a mix. G Force Genova is the most popular, followed by the Kyosho Dirt Master. There are a few DT-03's and Yokomo B-MAX2. And then a Kyosho Scorpion, Vintage RC10 and my PR Racing S1 RM. In earlier rounds there were quite a few BBX running too.
@KaiCityRC we're good at spotting dt03s because they look like canoes underneath, just getting into this hobby and we're building one of those next having just completed a plasma edge 2 in time for the UK winter gloom
That looked like a lot of fun.
It was! 😁
The RC10 looked like it was running well. Was that yours?
The vintage RC10 isn’t mine. I ran the PR Racing. S1 RM. The RC10 ran really well. It came 1st in the previous round and took 2nd in this. 👍 Not bad for a nigh on 40 year old machine. 👍
I really love that you guys race these ! Im way too young to have been around when these were released. And especially now there are cars that are way more capable than the grasshopper. But you just cant get around the fact how amazing the classic tamiyas look.
Despite its lack of performance, the Grasshopper more than makes up for it with character. It’s hard to think of a more fun RC for the price. It remains very popular even to this day. 👍
Great video
Stellar as always brother
Thanks! 👍
I like the older RC10s, but AE charging what they do and using a QR code just seems like a bad joke, I'd rather fix up an old one. Also not including bearings seems silly.
Agreed. I suppose AE could argue that since the kit didn’t originally come with bearings, they don’t have to/shouldn’t include them in the re-release. But if so, then we should get the original, well written and very detailed manual too! 😁
Now that was cool
Beautiful car! May I ask what pinion gear you are running on it? 😁
I'm currently away from home, so unable to check. But pinion size will depend on some many factors - where you run, surface type, motor, battery, runt times etc. I'd start with the kit supplied one (I think it's around 24T or so) and go from there.
@ thank you very much!
oh wow rc music video🥰
Thanks!
Looks great David! Unfortunately im old enough to appreciate the 80s song too 😂 I really hope they do something about parts. It would be beneficial for them to keep spare parts in stock for us that like to run our RCs.
Agree totally! I'm not one for shelf queens and try to run everything I have. I really want to use the RC10 for vintage racing, but spares are holding me back!
LOL I had an OG RC10. It was expensive as hell back then 🤣This brings back memories 🥰
Nostalgic Music meets Nostalgic RC ❤
Great video man
Thanks!
Such an awesome video!!!! Thank you 🙏🏼
Glad it was useful Thanks! 😊
I love that you put your quick ones at the beginning and they were all useful. I built the javelin as my 2nd ever rc kit and always bashed it, so every hop up part from jaz rider is at this point on it and it runs phenomenal.
Thank! I'm glad the video was helpful. I love my Javelin. One of THE best looking buggies for sure. 👍
Quick question. I had an issue with sloppy steering rack with the bushes so replaced with ballraced 6x3x2.5 like in your video. What washer do you use underneath the bearing as mine sits flush with the plastic rack so needs a smaller washer to marry with the inner bearing. Did you have this or am i missing something
If memory serves I used the kit supplied washers as is, only replacing the "flanged metal" as kyosho call it with the optional bearing. But you could use any suitably sized washer. Be careful not to over tighten the screw as it will start to bind.
@KaiCityRC i must be doing something wrong because the standard washer is to large and would therefore tighten down on the outside race to. I had to get 3x5mm Shims to press only on the inners from kyosho. How did you not compress the whole bearing down solid when tightening the 3m screw down? Been trying to understand this because I have the 6x3x 2.5 correct bearings
@@rogergale3297 I checked and can confirm I'm using the supplied washer. Are you using the correct flanged bearing (BRG007F) and it is inserted with the flange at the top? Also it is really important not to tighten the screw down too far. You're just removing the play between the drag link and the bell cranks, nothing more. If you tighten too far the whole thing will bind. Hope that helps!
@KaiCityRC hi there. I do appreciate your reply...thankyou for your theory on this. Perhaps that's like you say...maybe I shouldn't tighten it right down. The way I've done it now so that I do tighten it right down is to place a couple of Shims underneath that are 0.1mm thick but crucially tiny 3x5mm so the inner bearing race underneath sits on these. It works well but I was unaware that the screw originally shouldn't be tightened fully. Much appreciated, and great channel by the way. The flange is at the top and the bearings are correct number. All my other cars have never had this design from schumacher.
The blue color of this paint is the PS mark, thank you.
I needed this right at this moment. Thanks for the great content, new sub here!
Thank you for the sub. I'm glad that my video helped brighten your day. ☺️
