Sydney Harbour ajing - ambushed by a monster flathead!
I was violently ambushed by a croc during an ajing session. After losing a couple of 50+ models on the lift previously, this time I came prepared with a landing net! ✌️

Fish was released after a few photos and swam off strongly. It had another fisho's hook and line still attached to it which I trimmed off as closely as I could.

Two different lures, two different fish. First lure was a Thirty34Four Octopus 1.8" ajing soft plastic and second lure was a Prolure v35 blade. This is a montage of two ajing sessions at a local ferry wharf. It really opened my eyes to the endless potential which this Japanese style of fishing brings. This fish went for a blistering run before spitting out the lure just as quick. It must have tasted the strong artificial plastic smell and had an epic gag reflex 😂 It had all the telltale signs of a Mulloway and they have been known to haunt the waters around this area. Bustups, bustups everywhere on a Winters night. The fish were in a feeding frenzy and I was using a 2" Holt Swim Prawn. I believe the surface activity were mainly Yellowtail smashing tiny meso and macroplankton. I'd hate to be on the bottom of the food chain, those Yellowtail were aggressive AF! 🌊 I need to retrieve my Ajing gear from storage ASAP!

This urban river system is full of fish, I wonder if it's due to the rich "nutrients" and relative lack of fishing pressure on this stretch. Bro what's the jighead size weight and soft lures size you used?
If you call something art - it must be perfection. From start to finish.
What's the size of jighead and soft bait
Varying sizes of jigheads depending on conditions but mainly 1.5-2g for most harbour locations, increase jighead size if current is running hard and fish are holding mid to deep water. Softbaits are ajing plastics which are usually 1.5 to 2.2 inches. Hope this helps!

Hey mate I am going to chase some kingfish,salmon and probably Mac tuna around Sydney harbor,looking for a medium/medium heavy rod,Any rod suggestions?Also,are Daiwa TD black rods good?
I haven't used the Daiwa TD black rods personally but I know a few others who have and rate them. I would look at Atomic Arrowz range as they provide decent value and do come in medium heavy setup as well if that's what you're after!

Hey mate, I was using 6lb leader on this setup
I just recently found out there are loads of those pike at my local Sydney harbour fishing spot. they go crazy for a 60mm double clutch lure.
Nice, apparently they are also semi decent live baits for jewfish in case you wanted to give them a crack!

What setup do you got there?
I had two different setups in the vid. The line sizes I ran: - 2.3lb mainline, 4lb leader - 8.5lb mainline, 6lb leader Rod was a 1-3kg Rapala Maxwell and reels were a Shimano Soare 500 & Daiwa Caldia 2000.

Cheers brooo, that's an Estuary Perch, they are mostly an upper estuary dwelling fish but usually travel into the lower estuary to spawn around wintertime. This guy was full of milt haha

@@jdmfisho2059 trip report Windy night but my spot sheltered. Fished for an hour and had one hook up and drop at my feet. Lots of little penguins which kept it interesting, I think moon being only a sliver has something to do with smaller tide movements and therefore aji aren’t on the chew as much. Over all was nice to be out for a bit
@@coolasfishing ahh unlucky on the fish front but yeah it would be interesting to work out a pattern to it. I'll have to pay more attention to the moon phases next time to see if I can crack the ajing code 🤔

They look like the Snook but they're actually "long-finned Pike". We don't seem to get any Snook in Shitney, they're common down Melbourne way!
