Shit happens
Fixing mistake - I forgot to lock my circle jig and the router went off course 😱. Luckily this table top will have a 60 degrees chamfer edge, I take the opportunity to reduce the diameter slightly so that the accident part is safely removed. #woodworking #finefurniture #rounddiningtable #circlecuttingjig #plungerouter #chamfering #fixingmistakes #shorts

Making of through mortise dining table with wedged tenon
Переглядів 14 тис.4 роки тому
This is a commissioned project. Client specifically wanted a dining table without conventional aprons/carcass for his new home. After stumbling upon a few ideas online, we decided to go with this minimalist look version. This video shows mainly on the making of through mortise and tenon locked by wedges. PS: I worked in a shared makerspace so you will hear some unrelated machine noises here and...
How to make a food container planter box

The making of Torii console table
Переглядів 36 тис.6 років тому
A Japanese arch (Torii) inspired console table. I build this project for one of the empty wall in our home. The entire build is made of local timber (Yellow Meranti). The legs are joint with dowelled rabbet joint, and are fasten by screws for easy dismantling and transporting. The build is then finished with linseed oil, and hand rubbed with wax to perfection.

    Nice video. Just wandering, are you still using the Makita PJ7000 biscuit joiner after those years? If yes, is it still good?

    I think the legs will not hold up. I see the tenon joint you made without table aprons impractical and not mechanically sound. If legs were curved it would work. A curved tenon. Wow. That would be strong and stable.

    This a such a nice table design. I really like it. But, i also notice that you do literally EVERYTHING with powertools. Even the smallest touch up job has to be either routed or power-sawed. That certainly looks efficient if you are building these in series. But if this is a one-off or a prototype, it lacks the hand made charm. Meanwhile i will be on the look out for you to find you a power-mallet, a power marking pencil, a power glueing brush...

      Yep. If he had flushed off those mortises with low-angle jack, and then hit the whole thing with a smoothing plane. The finish would look tons better, and no more sanding!

      You are right. I wish traditional woodworking hand tools are as easily and cheaply available here as at where you live. And very funny on power mallet parts.

    Great video. For my interest, it seems like some of the later fitting that you did with dowels might have been done more quickly and with less worry of misalignment with the biscuit jointer. Why the dowels for example for the facing plate under the bar? Strength or something else, or just preference? I used to use dowels a lot but I’ve just got a biscuit jointer and it seems like it might have made dowels redundant, but I’m not sure! So interesting to see you using both. Many thanks.

    • @KevinBuild
      @KevinBuild 2 роки тому

      glad you ask. if you notice, i am using dowels on removable parts for client to assemble. dowels will keep them in perfect fit. biscuits on the other hand will allow side to side shifting.
