How is the plumbing configured to compensate for overflow? I have a similar setup, electric pump inline with the mechanical pump but my onboard tank keeps filling from the overflow. Did you route the overflow back to the auxiliary tank? If so, what parts did you use?

How do you like the kubota so far. Thinking about getting one. How many hours so far?

Can you provide the specs for the electric fuel pump you used and what is the capacity of your fuel tank?

What are your thoughts on doing something like this on a yanmar 5500?

It should work fine. I disconnected the fuel supply and return lines from the on board tank and connected them to my larger tank using hydraulic hoses. (I will probably switch to stainless tubing at some point.) Things to consider are: Filtration - I used a Racor 250 micron strainer first and a Racor 10 micron filter / water separator after the strainer. Positive Fuel Shutoff (Manual or Automatic) - I used a pump with shutoff built in. Fuel Pump or Not - This will depend on the height of your tank and the fuel requirements of the engine. Material Compatibility - Be sure that all of the components you use are compatible with diesel fuel. You could also consider some sort of three way valve and quick connect set-up so you can keep the portability available if needed. Good luck on your project!

@@georgegates9228 Using your setup as a motivating factor for me, I bought a new Kubota GL7000, an RDS 37 gallon auxiliary tank, and a Racor 4 micron filter and water separator. I removed the factory tank and made the supply and return connections directly to the auxiliary tank, but I have it set up for gravity feed rather than adding an electric pump like you did. I then mounted the factory tank on top of the auxiliary tank and have now tee'd into the supply line just upstream of the Racor filter. I have Syndiesel loaded into the factory tank and what I do is switch over to the Syndiesel about five minutes before shutting down the generator so that the Syndiesel is in all the lines. Here's a short video of my setup, though I had not yet made the tee connection at the time I recorded it: ua-cam.com/video/McnGleM0yh4/v-deo.html

Why did you use an electric pump instead of the stock mechanical? Also are you running the mechanical dry? I’m going to do this so wanted to pick your brain.

I am running an electric fuel pump for a couple reasons, I wasn’t sure if my tank gets low of the level would be below the pump suction so I wanted to be sure that I always supply positive pressure to the inlet of the mechanical pump. The electric pump is in series with the mechanical and before the onboard filter. So my electric pumps pulls from the tank, pushes through the onboard filter and then to the inlet of the mechanical pump. Also, the pump I chose has a positive shut off in it so I don’t have to worry about losing all my diesel onto the ground.

@@georgegates9228 I missed where the electric pump is - is it the small one inside the genset on top of the on-board fuel filter? I'm thinking to buy a Kubota too and having an external tank would be really cool.

The electric pump is right inside the access panel. You can see it when I open the panel. It is shaped like a cube.
